Report: LT Eugene Monroe one of Ravens' priorities

This is great news if Wilson is correct on his prediction. If it comes down to us and Oakland and the offers are similar, I like our chances. We still have a glimmer of hope!!

If that is true, and his pick is between us and Oakland, even if Oakland offers him more money we could stand a better chance cause he would be more likely to sign with a team that wins.

Thus why Veldheer left and is signing with the Cardinals who had 11 wins last year. Also why Monroe will stay and re-sign with us.

Apparently Monroe's market has cooled as he has become the 3rd priority for the tackle needy teams.

Arizona to land Veldheer, Miami to ink Albert, which leaves Monroe to us for somewhere between $8.5-9 million avg per year - per nfl.com

I just don't understand why these teams are passing on him, Monroe is much younger than both and truthfully as good and has less injury concerns.

Makes sense.  Monroe wants WAAAAYYYY too much.  It's reported Ravens offered 8-9 mil per season and he declined.  He's not worth top 5 money and teams are not overpaying the way they used to.

Is there collusion between owners?  Maybe.  I like it though.  Tired of seeing average talent going for top 5 money.

Quote from ESPN Article

"What changed? It looks like Monroe lost the offensive tackle's version of musical chairs. According to the paper, Kansas City's Branden Albert is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins, St. Louis' Rodger Saffold is headed for the Oakland Raiders, Oakland's Jared Veldheer is being targeted by the Arizona Cardinals and Cincinnati's Anthony Collins is likely to go to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers...It would take out Miami and Arizona, two teams who were expected to spend top dollar for a left tackle, and it could lower Monroe's price tag for the Ravens. "

Based on reports I've been reading, and what's already been posted in here, it seems like it's more and more likely that we retain Monroe. I hope that's the case, because I really want a top WR in Round 1 of the draft :)

Unless Ozzie gets a safety in FA, we might get stuck with Clinton-Dix. Nothing like a Bama Bust, eh?

I think Clinton-Dix will actually do well in the NFL. He's a great athlete with really good instincts. I think he will be one of the few exceptions to the "all Bama guys are kinda mediocre"-rule (see Julio Jones).

I completely disagree, he got lost way too much in coverage for my tastes.  I also think he'd do better in a scheme where SS and FS are a bit more interchangeable, I don't think he's a deep safety in the traditional sense.

Well, now that the market has dropped on LTs, lets offer Monroe $7 - $8 mil/year instead of that $9 mil I was willing to give him a few days ago.

I hope he's mad at his agent.  I also hope we don't low ball and insult him.  Give him the money he's worth, and if he doesn't accept it, then he's not worth pursuing.

Who tweeted that?

Evan Silva, so pretty reputable, especially with him talking about a Schefter endorsement.

I saw another report that if the Ravens do sign Monroe, they'd like to get it done in the next 24 hours or so in case they can't agree and they have to move on to other FA options.

Seems free agent FS Jairus Byrd's price is already coming down. Initially said to be seeking $9M per year, now reports say $8M annually.
