Report: LT Eugene Monroe one of Ravens' priorities

1,151 posts in this topic

For all those holding on hope that Monroe will sign for cheap, he won't. I guarantee its at least $9.5 from the Ravens. Roger Saffold for $8 and Albert for $9.5 means the Ravens will have to pony up for Monroe

That's honestly only amillion more than planned.  With the raise cap I'm fine with that.  A little higher but I think it won't bother us in the long run.

i'll take him at 9.5 screw it but what if this was a plan by ozzie to scare teams away from monroe so they can get a deal done under table by tuesday. wouldn't be surprised.

It's not the end of the world if he doesn't re-sign either, it won't be easy to replace him but it would be easy to replace Oher and Gino's production.

The fact Collins and Veldheer will sign for less than both Albert and Saffold, shows how stupid the front offices of Miami and Oakland are. Ozzie knows that and will probably get Monroe at around the same as Veldheer and Collins.

that seems really doubtful.  Oakland could easily just offer Monroe the money they were giving Saffold.

To be fair, you could probably find two irritable fat guys in Dundalk that could replace Oher and Gino's production.

I also don't think he was the best tackle in the market.  Brandon Albert has the potential to dominate when he feels like it, he's just been inconsistent during his career and is frequently injured.

yeah that what the dolphins said about albert he can dominate in the run game and bring physicailty to the line more than monroe.

I actually read about two irritable fat guys in a Miami bar who went crazy and beat up some other people, unfortunately one of them was Jah Reid.

Yeah, Monroe is more of a technician or finesse tackle.  He's not a mauler at all.  But that's what makes him a good scheme fit, and that's probably why Ozzie won't pay him as much as he wants.

Saffold plays 4 positions on the line at a high level, a team with money could go after him and another tackle.

I would do this if they were paying Saffold say, $6M, but $8M means he will be the blindside protector. Not where he is best suited.

If Ozzie was willing to pay $10M to a LT, I would have had no problem with that if we were going after Albert.

It seems with the rest of OT market starting to thin out, we might hear something tomorrow in terms of a deal with Monroe re-signing.

Wagner, a mid round rookie played better when given the opportunity, thats how awful Oher was last season. He should have been benched.

I know Oher was awful last year, but Wagner only took his spot when he went down in the opener against Denver, and he struggled that night.

They probably view Wagner as more of a project, even with Oher struggling.

Yeah he only played a lot in the Denver game and he gave up 3 sacks. Still, he showed flashes in spot duty. besides, everyone sucked that game

If you read the Aaron Wilson article:

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/ravens-insider/bal-sources-ravens-maintaining-dialogue-with-eugene-monroe-still-hopeful-deal-could-be-reached-20140309,0,3032756.story

The key line there is really just "... there is increased hope from both sides that something can be worked out.".

After the negativity swirling just 2 days ago, I'll take it.

I'm not saying Rick will never improve, and I think the team has high hopes and expectations for him going forward.  They probably just thought he wasn't ready last year.  My guess.

Man that is cold. Sort of true, but still cold. And funny.

There are 4 guards who get 8+ million, just saying.

OMG that's awesome

... but honestly, if I'd pick 2 guys to be replaced by those irritable fat guys (to be found drunk and hanging out at Merritt Park) I would have picked Shipley and Gino.

I think one of them is Nicks, who are the other three?

Mankins, Levitre, and... One second

I figured Evans would be the other one.  I'm surprised Levitre and Mankins make that much, but Mankins has long been overrated.

Levitre is pretty good. Was surprised to see guys like Evan Mathis and Marshall Yanda were kinda down the list. I do agree Mankins is overrated quite a bit, but the Patriots have never been scared to drop money on their offensive line

Considering the cap room they have, they probably could have paid Saffold the $8M to be a guard, while franchise Veldheer or at least paying him the $6M-$7M he is getting from Arizona.

Then again that will make the re-signing of Monroe that much better. Raiders over pay, while we get Monroe cheaper and the better player.
