Report: LT Eugene Monroe one of Ravens' priorities

1,151 posts in this topic

So Albert to Miami, Veldheer will be getting overpaid by Oakland to stay, so it seems likely we may end up keeping Monroe after all.

Arizona, TB, and Atlanta have all been rumored to being willing to spend big on a LT as well.  I don't know that they do with the potential to grab a guy in the draft, but those aren't the only teams looking.

Depends on how much he's paid, and I don't think Albert's destination is quite so clear cut yet.  The Cards will probably get themselves in the running for one of the top guys.  And the Rams want to keep Saffold as a guard.  I've also heard rumors that the Raiders are re-upping with Veldheer for way more than I think he's worth as well.

Cardinals don't want Monroe they only wanted Albert and Roger saffold thats it. thats what there 2 guys.

i highly doubt atlanta is in any play for a LT they just paid sam baker 41 million plus and they have more holes on there team than we do(especally on Defense). Tampa bay yes and Arizona i guest will get roger saffold that was there fall back guy if they can't get albert.

They'd be much smarter to just sit pat and take Matthews or Robinson IMO.

One point La Canfora made is that if Ozzie thinks a guy (Taylor Lewan, essentially) is capable of being that franchise guy for the next 10+ years he might be more apt to include future picks to move up a few spots to grab him.

It's been said that Atlanta looked into all of the top guys.  I doubt they sign any of them, but they are still an option at least.

If Monroe leaves I hope Oher goes with him, I'm tired of watching Harbaugh field poor players because they're his "guys".

I hope Oher is gone too, but Harbs fielding him because he's one of "his guys" is far from the case.  When we had better tackles on the roster, they were lazy, unmotivated or injured (McKinnie, Gaither).  Not much choice but to field Oher.

I agree completely, but they have at least called agents according to reports so I had to at least mention them.

Also plausible.  I don't know if I'd trust it after watching Lewan's tape, but at the same time, I'm not a professional scout and I'm sure they'd defer to one of them over me.

Lewan is one of the players where I think Mayock was spot on.  You watch his best 3 or 4 games and this kid looks like the top tackle in the draft, but he has another 20 games that are meh to trash.  He has the athleticism you're looking for and I think he compares to Nate Solder, and I don't think Solder was impressive on tape out of college either but he developed.

That's exactly what I think every time I watch him.  Sometimes he's Joe Thomas, and sometimes he's Michael Oher.  It's a question mark, but an entirely possible scenario.

He's more appealing than Oher coming out because he has better length, although his arms measured shorter than what you'd expect for a guy his size.

Yeah for sure.  He's definitely much better.  I was more comparing him to what he looks like at times.  I wasn't trying to match size or anything like that.

I'd much rather trade up for Jake Matthews if he was within trade range over Lewan. Matthews is more of a franchise 10+ years guy.

I just hope we are able to retain Monroe and we wouldn't have to have this discussion come May on which LT we should get.

You'd have to give up much more for Matthews though.  It's possible that you'd have to trade up 10 picks or so, whereas Lewan would likely require a trade up of about 5 picks.

i wouldn't mind that at all because looing at the 2015 class is not that strong as this year class. so if it takes a first pick and a 2015 or 16 pick to move up 5 or 6 spots so be it. we have our guy atleast for the next decade.

Arizona has comepletely moved on from Albert and now will turn there interest to Jared Veldheer.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals are "very interested" in free agent LT Jared Veldheer

I think Miami is going double dip on Offensive Tackles.

They're probably going to spend all their cap on offensive line after last year's dismal performance.

Wouldn't be surprised since they doubled last year on linebackers.

As for the Raiders, they might buy a whole new defense with the amount of free agents out there on that side of the ball.

Ian RapoportRapSheet 3 hrs

On the OT market: #Dolphins top target is Branden Albert. #Cardinals targeting Jared Veldheer. What of #Raiders? Perhaps Rodger Saffold

Yet nothing on Monroe. That is very, very interesting that teams prefer other OTs over Monroe.

It could be that Monroe priced himself out of a deal.  If he's asking for $10M+ annually, other teams could shy away.

Only the Raiders have the cash to burn and can give in to Monroe's demand, if all their target OTs are gone.

I think Monroe and his agent got a wake up call about his true value after wanting $10M a year. I think he'll re-sign with us for $7M-$8M a year in the end.

i bet alot of teams saw that report from the ravens that he wanted 10 mill a year and was like whoa! he's not worth that at all. now 8 or 9 yes 10 plus HELL NO! your not Joe thomas and your sure as hell ain't Duane Brown so get out of here with that mess monroe. i though a fair deal for him was a 5-45 million dollar deal getting 8.5 or 9 a year. not 10 again

Of course it could all be a smoke screen in hopes that Monroe's asking price comes down (which would benefit us as well).

Another factor no one seems to be considering is these guys might not WANT to go to that train wreck down in Miami. I think Oakland is more desirable at this point.

Miami was basically a game out of the playoffs last year. They were essentially like us in some ways. Had their moments on D, inconsistent O, and couldn't protect their QB worth a damn. Oakland is definitely in worse shape still. Plus I think south Florida is more attractive to many players than the bay area.
