wouldn't all this contacting of these players be considered tampering though?

You can contact players today, but can't sign them until Tuesday.

The news came from the Miami Herald not BR... seems to be smoke in mirrors given that you assume they will go after the best available LT...but maybe they do like Branden Albert better. They really wanted him last year and he will be cheaper than Monroe.

Okay cool.  My mistake.  I'm on mobile so I haven't been able to look or read anything yet.

All in all it just shows that Miami is getting ready to spend a trillion dollars in free agency like they did last year. Last year they spent $60M on Mike Wallace...and this year they will probably spend 60 more on a LT. All the big money they dropped last year on FAs and they still sucked.

You can't finance a championship using your checkbook. Maybe if they spent more time evaluating draft prospects and less time batting their eye lashes at over priced FAs like a fat kid in a candy store...maybe they could get some where. But they continue to throw money at the wall and fail at drafting players...when you trade up in the draft for someone you could have probably traded back to get....and then try and trade him the following year you know your doing something wrong.

So basically what we've learned is the Dolphins are looking at every single free agent left tackle out there.

Nope, it's all Legal. The NFL created a 3 day legal tampering window for teams to be able to contact agents.

One thing to keep in mind is that The Dolphins have different general manager. They fired their old general manager whom signed Mike Wallace and etc last year. I'm not saying they won't spend big money this year but they may be more careful or approach this year free agency differently than last year.

Dion Jordan was not going anywhere near the Dolphins pick last year but I agree with everything else you said

Only the Eagles and Browns would have otherwise taken him and I heard the Browns had Barkevious Mingo higher on their board, and as much as Chip Kelly would like to have an Oregon duck on his defense he had to go BPA on Oline. Shoot if teams knew how overrated he truly was he might not even be a 1st rounder. He seems to be all athleticism and no strength or skill. And he will probably ride the bench again this year too unless he gets traded.

I think it's weird how they just drafted lane Johnson with the fourth overall pick, but he'll play right tackle. That's really high for a right tackle

I think part of that might have been Vick being Left handed but I don't know.

But then you are assuming none of the other teams would have taken him between those picks, I am not saying it was the right move but I don't think he was going to fall that far. They really should have snatched Johnson up with that pick however. Then we wouldn't need to worry about them getting Monroe in the first place lol

Ah, didn't even think about Vick, but very good point.

I honestly thought that the Dolphins were going to snag Johnson when they traded up, and when they grabbed Dion Jordan instead I just laughed. I guess it would have been equal to the Raiders taking DJ Hayden right there.

True lol, everyone was thinking they would and then the Dolphins surprised us all. I guess the really though Martin would be their solution. Funny how that one turned out for them

It's not like the right tackle spot was exactly secure or a strength, so it doesn't make sense passing on Johnson, if you ask me.

I actually think DJ Hayden will be really good, but third overall? Come on

Well the Eagles desperately needed help on that o-line after all the injuries and hell that broke loose the previous season. There are high hopes that Lane Johnson could develop into a LT but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Definitely a reach there as well. Thats why I wouldnt really mind us taking someone like Zach Martin or maybe Morgan Moses at 17 to be our RT...this might end up being a year we HAVE to make that type of move.

I would honestly have problems with both at 17, but if we didn't take Martin there (I see him shifting to guard), I think the Dolphins will take him

I hope it doesn't come to that because like I said it would be a bit of a reach, hopefully we can get Monroe signed but if not fill in a few pieces to our o-line through free agency. There are a few 2nd rounders who would make good starting RTs. Our o-line has such a naked feel to it though-- no OTs, no starting caliber center...Joe Flacco is probably having nightmares already.

I'm gonna have nightmares if Ozzie doesn't buck hos trend and sign UFA's since there are some good ones, like BDLP and Strief

Pay him the 10 mil he's asking. Its not easy to find decent LTs on the market. Its not like teams are just letting them go left or right, and if they are, usually teams with higher cap space snatch them up or would out bid us. Its not like they will have a chance at an instant starter out of the draft in LT. They are only about 1mil apart, so why not just pay the man his million difference and move on to the next stage. Its not like LTs are like running backs or receivers where there are an ample supply of them on the market that are really good. Unless we completely suck next year and get a top 10 pick, we will never get another JO unless we get lucky in the later rounds. So why not just sign the man who has proven himself this past season (atleast to me he has) and that way we have a good LT and don't have to try and find/battle with other teams in FA. To me, with the way GOOD LTs are hard to find in the market, 10 million is not overpaying.

The 10m is just a # people just put out there. For all we know we offered him 10m and he still refuse to take it until he checks the market.

I am really hoping the Dolphins as reported are smitten with Brandon Albert and pay him on day 1 of FA, the Raiders pay Veldheer, Saffold gets his money somewhere, and we quietly bring back Monroe

Not the most likely--but I do think we are 50/50 right now with getting Monroe back. If not I will not be surpried at all if we push hard to bring back Oher..yes he has not lived up to his billing but he stays on the field, has swing ability, works hard and is a team player. I would not be completely annoyed if Oher comes back if we Monroe goes elsewhere

If Monroe leaves I hope Oher goes with him, I'm tired of watching Harbaugh field poor players because they're his "guys".

This could help.

All signs point to LT Branden Albert signing with the Dolphins as early as Tuesday http://wp.me/p14QSB-9qFa

Depends on how much he's paid, and I don't think Albert's destination is quite so clear cut yet.  The Cards will probably get themselves in the running for one of the top guys.  And the Rams want to keep Saffold as a guard.  I've also heard rumors that the Raiders are re-upping with Veldheer for way more than I think he's worth as well.

the Cardinals don't have the ludicrous cap space as Miami.  So it might work out.  Here's hoping.
