Report: LT Eugene Monroe one of Ravens' priorities

1,151 posts in this topic

Ha. No.

Bryant is over the hill...... Monroe graded out as a top 10 LT, one of the few good players on the line last year.

Caw Caw Caw....

DO NOT OVERPAY MONROE!

If they don't tag him, I'm sure it's out of confidence that they can get something done before FA hits. Hell, they might be further along than we think on contract talks. You never know.

I just seriously doubt Ozzie is going to give up a 4th and a fifth rounder for a 1 year rental. Hard to find a top tackle and only at 26 years old.

I think at worse we tag Monroe.   We shelved 2 draft picks for Monroe.   If he doesn't want to get a deal w/ us, then its too bad on him.

He'll have to play under the tag or get a reasonable deal w/ us.

We get one of those picks back if we let him go to Free Agency........it would be the best move Oz has made in two years.

That Daryl Smith signing last year was awful wasn't it?

Monroe will get a big deal...so deal with it.

Wait a minute.........even though D. Smith couldn't stuff the run he was a tremendous pickup at the cost.

That is not going to be the case with Monroe.

Monroe must go.............or be signed at Value with an eye to replacing him quickly in the draft.

Franchise LT's are worth every penny. Monroe is that

Thats not the case anymore, defensive co-ordinators take advantage of mismatches and bring pressure from all sides, thats why a decent front 5 is better than 2 elite linemen eating up $18M of the cap. Look at the LT's on the last 5 SuperBowl winners, not exactly an All-pro group.

And how do we know, that we will be able to put a "decent front 5" together? Are we keeping Oher, who was widely inconsistent even at RT? Will Gino ever be a good Center or are we having to draft someone? Will KO come back healthy? All we do know is, that Yanda and Monroe are good players and only one of them has a contract, while we invested two draft picks into the other already. Those are the only things, that are certain as far as the OL is concerned, the rest, the way the FA and Draft shape out to be are pure speculation.

Veldheer is the guy this fan wants.  If you're gonna pay, pay there.

Monroe sucks. McKinnie is a Free Agent...........lace his contract with weight and performance incentives, get him back and go from there.

We are not going to be a much better team than last year. We can target the LT of the future in this draft or next year's draft. Would rather do that than let Oz try to score on a Receiver with the top pick.  Oz is clearly having trouble evaluating the passing game.

If you're gonna fix the whole OLine this year. Veldheer.

Because that worked before...

We don't know if the FO can piece together a capable unit with the pieces we have now but it has to be done, defenders can be moved around but you can't move Monroe and Yanda with them. We're only as strong as our weakest link.

Having a great franchise left tackle is a huge step in the right direction. If you didn't get to watch Monroe and solely Monroe, you might want to take a chance to do that. He was on an island when he played. He didn't have Shipley shift over to try to help him or give him aid. He took it one on one. So, that means if a team really is bringing pressure from all sides, they can shift the protection to that side and not have to worry about giving aid to Monroe. Sign him.

My bet?

Monroe gets tagged and Ozzie pulls off a last second deal in August so we don't have to use the tag for the whole season.

1) Veldheer isn't leaving Oakland

2)  "Monroe sucks"

2011- graded out as the third best LT in the NFL (only behind Jason Peters and Duane Brown), +22 overall grade

2012- 10th best LT, +21 overall grade

2013- 10th best LT, career high +24 grade

The teams he played for were Jax and Baltimore. Both of these teams had awful OL surrounding him. It's amazing he managed to play as well as he did.

3) McKinnie is a scrub

He doesn't like Change... Not understanding that it's for the better.

1. To this day I still agree with the Boldin trade. It needed to be done. A 30+ something with not a lot of time left isn't worth $6 million a year. A franchise QB is.

2. Dumerivil > Kruger

Smith(his play anyway) > Lewis from the SB run(who while I still love the guy was a shell of his former self)

Elam > shell of himself Ed Reed who will probably be unemployed this season and should retire. If you watched him AT ALL he got burned a lot. I mean, he was cut for god's sake.

    Jimmy Smith >>>>>>>>>> Cary Williams

James Ihedigbo was surprisingly > Pollard.

    Monroe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> McKinnie

The only thing Ozzie messed up in was NOT FINDING A VIABLE REPLACEMENT FOR BOLDIN(Gino doesn't count seeing as he has a leigit chance to redeem himself). If the running game actually works, then this team is a playoff team.

3. Veldheer aint leaving Oakland, and (no offense), I would still rather have Monroe... I was freaking excited for him to come here cause HE'S THE ONE I WANTED.........

Monroe played very well, but how well did that theory work out for our offense last season? then tell me how much we can spend on a new centre, tackle and possibly guard if we're already spending $18M a year on two.

who said we need to spend money on a new center and guard?

with monroe signed its only the RT position that needs to be filled unless osemele cant get healthy and i dont think gino is getting cut or traded any time soon.

We'll need a new guard if KO can't return let alone return to his previous level of play, it's not an ACL tear, back injuries are complicated. Gino is not a starting quality centre, he's the main reason our offense stalled last season.

There was just an update from Harbs on KO last week saying how well he was doing and he was at the castle training. He'll be fine. The money that Monroe and POTENTIALLY a new center would cost is a moot point with the cap being increased this season and the upcoming seasons as well.

If the Ravens can't get this deal done with Monroe well I guess that means they have to bring back Micheal Oher or draft one of the top  left tackles in  the draft such as Taylor Lewan

Lets add some facts to your Oz Suppositions

He doesn't like Change... Not understanding that it's for the better.

What this fan cannot tolerate is inane "knee jerk" change which our G.M. has been resorting to of late. He has been among the worst G.M.'s in the League the last two years and even has our Owner on Alert.  When the emperor is standing naked, one can be a loyal subject and applaud, or one can call him on the charade. (I wanted to say something much more vividly critical but the censors would never have allowed it.)

1. To this day I still agree with the Boldin trade. It needed to be done. A 30+ something with not a lot of time left isn't worth $6 million a year. A franchise QB is.

Then you and Oz share common ground, but you're alone upon that hilltop surrounded by enraged Sioux.  The guy that sucked last year was Joe Flacco.  So it wasn't Flacco was it?  Oz and his sidekick are starting to sweat.

2. Dumerivil > Kruger

Was never critical of allowing Kruger to walk.  But Dumervil is also a liability.

Smith(his play anyway) > Lewis from the SB run(who while I still love the guy was a shell of his former self)

Lewis played well when he came back. His Denver game was a Tour de Force.  His lack of quickness was exposed in the Championship, by a team with quickness.  But he has two rings and though Smith was a nice pickup, he can't plug a hole at the line to save his life and will never have two rings. Blasphemy and some call themselves Raven Fans.

Elam > shell of himself Ed Reed who will probably be unemployed this season and should retire. If you watched him AT ALL he got burned a lot. I mean, he was cut for god's sake.

Elam is one of the top reasons Oz has lost it.  For those that still don't see it, don't worry, the truth eventually overtakes everyone.

    Jimmy Smith >>>>>>>>>> Cary Williams

Never critical of Jimmy Smith, he is coming along. Cary Williams is vastly under appreciated by this board for some reason.  If Webb doesn't come back to form, and Graham isn't resigned we may rue his absence.

James Ihedigbo was surprisingly > Pollard.

lol

    Monroe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> McKinnie

Monroe is a liability and if he gets the undeserved big contract, (and this fan thinks he will), the Raven's continue to retreat down Little Round Top.  This will be the contract that makes the slope the most slippery.  Trying to lock up a left tackle that can't protect the general and a general who still can't figure out where to aim.

The only thing Ozzie messed up in was NOT FINDING A VIABLE REPLACEMENT FOR BOLDIN(Gino doesn't count seeing as he has a leigit chance to redeem himself). If the running game actually works, then this team is a playoff team.

Oz is in his last year. Nothing he has done or is prepared to do can stave off the Lakota surrounding him.

3. Veldheer aint leaving Oakland, and (no offense), I would still rather have Monroe... I was freaking excited for him to come here cause HE'S THE ONE I WANTED.........

If your gonna Pay, pay for a difference maker.

At 10+ million a year he no longer becomes good value and we may have to look elsewhere. It's not like he's the missing piece, he might block his man but Flacco is still going to get crushed. The entire oline has to be rebuilt.

that's exactly why I would rather just throw $6m per year at Alex Mack.

if Monroe gets $9-10 elsewhere, we can take that $3-4 we saved and put it towards another OL.
