Report: LT Eugene Monroe one of Ravens' priorities

Matt Zenitz: "No discussions between Eugene Monroe and the #Ravens. Will test the free agent market."

Well, that's no good. He's a guy we should be prioritizing during our exclusive negotiating period. I fear if we let him test the open market, some team will offer him a deal that we can't afford to match. I'd like to think he wants to stay here, but I don't think that's something we can count on. Monroe is the most important FA we have. If we don't re-sign him, the whole scope of our offseason has to change.

I think the ravens have probably offered him a number this board would be comfortable with.  But agreed, don't really want to lose our starting LT.  Especially since I think he's a good fit for Kubiak's offense.

I'd be furious if he doesn't come back next year.

It would end up as a complete waste of two mid round draft picks.

Not suprised...he probably knows his value and see's where we stand with our offensive line.

Not to mention giving up draft picks to get him on our team for one season, he can probably name his own number.

I want Dennis Pitta to stay too. But it sucks that we wasted like 2 mid round picks on him just for him to leave. If he leaves I think we keep Pitta. I need my Pitta Hut

yeah, I got a feeling his price is too high to afford.....unfortunately.....

What a waste of draft picks....

Well, we still have the franchise tag. The number would be huge, but at least we can keep him off the market. It's not ideal, but it makes no sense to trade 2 picks for the guy then let him walk without a fight.

Brandon Albert is probably the best T on the market, so he may want to wait to see what he gets.

Just place the Franchise Tag on him to try to at most keep him here for another year. As for Pitta, there are some Tight Ends in this draft we can always take to replace him. Monroe should be a higher priority than Pitta since the OL was the main reason our offense sucked last year.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Lets pray that he does not walk although we would get a 3-4th rounder for him

I didn't see this coming,  wonder if they gave him a number and he decided it was too low. In Eisenberg's column several weeks ago he stated if we lost Monroe we  have other options I'm not seeing them unless its Jensen he was a four year stater at Lt in college  I  hope he didn't  mean oher.

I'm gonna have to disagree. Pitta is still young and has a lot of talent in him. I can't deal with Dickson. I think we should just draft a LT. Eugene Monroe will get paid big bucks else where. We can keep Pitta and maybe sign Jones long term with Leach as well. Or get rid of Leach. But whatever gotta let Ozzie choose. lol

Problem is who would we draft at LT? Matthews and Robinson would both be long gone. Do we go Lewan who could be gone anyways? Or the dreaded Kouandjio? Do we put Martin at LT? Or we could go the FA route since we wouldn't have to worry about signing Monroe? This is going to be interesting

Only two options:

1. We re-sign Monroe.

2. We don't sign Monroe but we sign Alex Mack

ONLY TWO OPTIONS!

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Pitta is 28, Monroe is 26. Top level LTs are a lot harder to find than TEs. Like someone else said, Mathews and Robinson won't be there for us, so we won't be able to replace Monroe's production in the draft. Even worse, this could lead to us keep Oher out of necessity... That's a terrible thought.

Tag him

I don't think we can feasibly afford the franchise tag.

@BMoreBirdsNest They put up something that I didn't say. There were no negotiations during the season, but they've talked to him since then

Just to clarify, @MZenitz did NOT say there has been no contact between Monroe & Ravens. Just that he wasn't negotiating during the season.

@jurgenhadley @mattvensel Wasn't Vensel. A misunderstanding of what was said. Apologize for the error and just corrected it. (Ryan)

Well that's been debunked - changing title!

Haha of course.  I would usually never quote WNST, but since it was Zenitz, I believed them.  Shame on me!

Yeah seriously.  I knew I hated that station, but I follow them on Twitter because their interviews are usually somewhat interesting.  Guess I won't pay attention to them anymore...

Let him go. If he only cares about money then we don't need him. Enough of the greediness.  Seattle did it with a bunch of no name brands. Time for Ozzie to step his game up. We are several parts away from winning in the post season. So get your roster together for a really brand new start. I myself could leave with a new one with a lot of promise. Especially since it may take this new regime of coaches time to gel with our players. Bye, Bye Monroe.

There was that good interview with Harbaugh during SB week. All of the sports stuff kind of runs together for me. Aaron Wilson is the golden standard

Haha, I think it would be worst care scenario. Although I'm sure he does have a fair amount of leverage when it comes time to negotiate. Throwing out two draft picks to get a guy during his contract year is pretty gutsy.

If we lose him we get a comp back.  Probably a 4th.  So really it's just one.  As opposed to signing a FA LT, you'd lose a comp pick.  Either way it's a net loss of basically a 5th in pure player terms.

WNST is such a joke. They have a good guest once in a while, but their guys aren't very good. Not surprised this happened.
