Ravens hire Wisconsin Badgers RB coach Thomas Hammock

67 posts in this topic

@insidemdsports: RT@coachingsearch Per source, #Wisconsin running backs coach Thomas Hammock will join the Baltimore #Ravens staff. http://goo.gl/dr4AUY

With National Signing Day being today, WR spot will likely happen soon too, I would think.

Good signing, Wisconsin always produced good solid runners

Yes, the Twitter chatter out of Wisconsin is that this is a major loss for the program.

Hopefully, he can make that translate to the pros.

So I looked him up, and I'm older than him. After I got over the crazy thought of that, I realized that this could be a great start to a long future of a strong running game! :)

Very happy with this signing! Our offensive staff is looking phenomenal, just a matter of time until a WR coach is signed next!

As exciting as this report appears, keep in mind:

The Ravens have not confirmed the hire and are not commenting on the report because of a power outage at the Under Armour Performance Center. Also, Head Coach John Harbaugh is currently out of town meeting with troops.

I was going to ask who did the interview with him because Harbaugh is out of the country, but I just figured it was Newsome or Kubiak. It does seem a strange time to announce a hire, with it being National Signing Day and everything. If this is true, the Badgers recruits were hopefully not duped into believing the man was going to stay when he really wasn't. That'd be bad.

Can he make Rice lose weight? I think they take a RB in rounds 2-4. Liking the Auburn back and the back from Florida state.

Our offensive coaching staff is looking amazing. I'm not used to this.

On paper they do!  I'll know more after seeing the first 3 regular season games.

why do you say it's our future OC

Because Kubiak is likely going to want a HC gig soon, and Dennison won't be here much longer than Kubiak will. Dennison might go with Kubiak, or maybe even get a HC gig. He was being considered for one or two, recently.

And, this guy is relatively young. So he could be our guy in say five years or so. There's a strong chance this guy could be our OC sometime down the road, especially considering he's been a college OC before and he's done very well with Wisconsin.

Aaron Wilson is reporting that we're looking at him and the Pitt WR coach, so it sounds like nothing is set in stone yet, but it's likely we sign him.

This guy has quite the track record.

The Pitt WRs coach, Bobby Engram, also has a good track record. Pretty good NFL career

If anybody wants to know about the WR coach spot here it is:

Bo Smolka bsmolka 3 hrs

Per coachingsearch, Pitt WR coach Bobby Engram in mix for Ravens WR coach job. #RavensTalk

http://coachingsearch.247sports.com/Article/Coaching-Transactions-Coaching-Search-Ticker-174892

Engram would be an interesting hire - kind of like Derrick Mason-light - not as solid of a career as Mase, but still a solid and respectable career.  Did pretty well once he had Hasselbeck throwing him the ball, and the kind of guy that definitely got more out of his career than talent alone would suggest.

So he was their top recruiter as well apparently. I read he recruited some people and then dipped. Meh

I have no problem with that - you do your job until its no longer your job.

I wouldn't expect him to recruit by saying, "don't come to Wisconsin because I'm a hot commodity and might be moving on the the NFL sometime in the future..."

Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider 1h

Ravens beat out two NFL teams to hire Thomas Hammock, their new running backs coach, an AFC North team and an NFC North team, per a source

Wonder if it was the Steelers or the Browns? Just a guess, but Steelers since Kirby Wilson went to Minnesota; heard Browns were looking at Montgomery but nothing from Steelers
