I dont think a post June 1 designation is really an option because it would just complicate matters.

It's no more complicated than accelerating the dead money to the current cap year, they'd just have less money to spend in the initial pre draft free agency period.

Calculating it is more difficult, unless we were just to make it simple like base salary. I would be open to giving each team one "June 1st designation" where you can just cut base salary and not worry about dead money.

Maybe we can set it up so every team gets 1 cut that is just base salary ( like a June 1 designation) and then any other cuts trades will be calculated from Cap Hit - Dead Money.

How are the Cowboys gonna get under the cap in real life without something like that one basically free cut? Almost all of their guys with big cap numbers have even bigger dead money figures than salary figures. It seems impossible.

I read on Grantland that there are, I think, 9 players signed through 2020 and the cowboys have 3 of them (Romo, Lee, Bailey). Between that statistic and taking a 3rd round Center in the 1st I think Jerry Jones may be possessed by the soul of Al Davis.

I want to make a suggestion regarding a rule change, which also could help members decide which team they want to take

The rules say, if I read that correctly, that if you cut a player Total Savings=Base Salary

For example:

If the Ravens owner cuts Haloti Ngata, he would save his base salary which equals 8.5 stars

In my opinion it would be more realistic if we take 2014 Cap Hits site from Spotrac, in this case for the Ravens(which would look like this: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/cap-hit/ ) and take as the total savings, the cap figure(last column) - dead money (second to last) which would result, for Haloti Ngata, in 1 star, which is the amount the Ravens would save for him

Total Savings=Cap Figure-Dead Money

Another example, if the Ravens owner would cut Joe Flacco he would save -23 stars, because the dead money (38) outweighs the cap figure (15). Instead of the 6 stars the owner would save if we keep the Total Savings=Base Salary.

For trades I would use the same system with the (again the Ngata example) previous owner of Ngata saving 1 star and the new owner only spending 1.

That wouldn't be fair, we all have to have equal access to the 31 teams other than the Ravens.

Just thinking out loud here, but instead of us all selecting teams, how about we just do it at random?  It might keep those who can't be available happy.

 

Put all of our names in random.org, hit random 5 times, and assign us whatever number.  Do the same with the teams and then the person with the corresponding number gets whatever team they land on.

People are going to complain either way.  At least this way, all of us have a fair shot at the sucky teams as well as the good teams.

It is going to be difficult to find a time that all 32 of us find fit, some people are just going to have to improvise. I am fine with whenever though... just preferably ASAP, I am excited
