Speaking of Vikings they just cut Erin Henderson

I dunno if rosters are set yet, but I was going to do that anyway.  Frees up $2 million in cap space.  Letroy Guion will also be cut.  I'm glad Cassel opted out of his contract so I'm not on the hook for him.

I picked a team with a good foundation to work with. And because I love me some defense. I almost went with the Panthers though tbh

they were my second choice

I just posted in out CoCo PM again, but I suggested earlier that they be locked after the first pick so stay tuned. Likely the Henderson cut and Raiola re-signing don't count.

When are we getting the State of the Franchise/Depth Charts up?  I started working on mine in Word, but I'm sure some people wouldn't mind keeping track of it on the boards, especially for those that don't use traditional PCs.

Soon.  I was going to post mine after I pick me team and then have everyone follow to show the format (two more picks until me).

I dug my old one out from last year.  I figured that would be good enough.

Helpful Spotrac link for people looking at cap space, I believe the 2013 estimated space is the rollover cap number.  I don't think that's illustrated in their standard cap table.

What just happened? Arnie picked a team and now that post is gone.

It was the Rams for the record, I dunno if he's changing his team or what.

I like the Rams pick in terms of having that extra 1st, but their cap room isn't exactly fun.

Its actually very easy to work with IMO. They were towards the top of my list.

I looked at the cap in depth and I didn't like it.

I wanted to go carolina but they are too tight for cap and no one is cut able. Would carry to much dead money.

Another team I pondered was the jets but just too many holes. Complete wr corps 3/5ths oline, qb, safetys.

Also considered atl but in wouldn't want matt ryan but couldn't do anything with him

The Rams are close to Cap Hell aren't they? Only reason I stayed away from them.

Hang on here actually. See the cap room we are working with the 127, do we not normally extend that to incl the draft. Ie 127 plus 5.5 equals 132.5. Everyone works from that?

I thought everything had to be under 127.

we normally take the expected league cap and increase it to cover the standard draft allotment. Ie a cap of 132.5. At least I thought we do. If we don't id like to change my team if possible.

Can someone explain to me how we are doing cap hits with trades and cuts.

for example:

Terrell Suggs (2014 cap year on spotrac): He has 7.8 M base, 4.6 M other bonus, 4.6 M dead = 12.4 total cap figure

--so if cut/traded would it be a 7.8M (or 8 star) saving?? how are we using other bonuses, dead, and signing bonuses in these calculations?

cap hit minus dead money amt is saving

The signing bonus stays on your books, the other stuff goes on the other team's.  You get an 8 star savings with Suggs, but if you were trading Ngata you'd only save one because his signing bonus for the next season gets accelerated, or at least that's my understanding.  You might have to click on the player to see more details, the have the dead money for Ngata in the right on that tab ($7.5 million for each of his last two years).  Roster bonuses and workout bonuses don't count against the cap if they're cut.

no u dont. U get 6.8. Cap hit minus dead money according to the rules. Pg 1 of this thread has been undated recently I think.

You have one cut available in which you can just write off the players base salary. Other than that you are just calculating the whole Cap Figure (last column) minus the dead money (all can be seen on this site: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/cap-hit/ ) which equals what you save for that player. Suggs is kind of a unique example because his base salary equals the cap figure minus dead money. For example for Ngata you would just save 1 star

Yes I think we slightly raised the cap in previous years, that's why I asked

I meant 7.8 see next post lol. I now see u rounded 7.8 to 8. Thats where the confusion came from

im not sure we are bringing that into it in case it complicates it to much. I think we are simply going cap hit less dead money. Ie suggs is 12.4 less 4.6 is 7.8

Not on the 'post June 1st cut'.

Their dead money tab looks to be tabulated correctly, at least on the Vikings'.  Henderson's workout bonus isn't included in dead money, so it's probably safe to use that in all cases for simplicity.  But it gets more complicated if you're using the extra cut.
