Completely cap friendly.  If he's done toward the end of the contract, we can cut him with little dead money.

Has the look of Ray Lewis' last contract with the Ravens.  Rays was 3 years and then 4 non guaranteed ones wasn't it?

Breakdown:

Signing bonus 11M

Y1: 1M, Cap 7.8M

Y2: 4M, Cap 6.6M

Y3: 4.5M, Cap 6,7M (Cut saves 0,5M)

Y4: 4M, Cap 6M (Cut saves 2M)

Y5: 4M. Cap 6M (Cut saves 4M)

So essantially a three year and the evaluate deal, nice deal for both the team and the player

Yep.  It's obvious that the hope is that they get 3 years out of him, and evaluate on a year to year basis for the last 2.

With Suggs done, I heard a radio discussion this morning that there is a chance the team may use the franchise tag on Arthur Jones once they've reached a deal with Pitta.

fyi,

The DT number is $9,182,000

I dont think we could eat that cap hit even if we don't re-sign Monroe. I hate to say it but it looks like Jones is walking

I've also heard they're considering it.  In the same breath, it was stated they were also considering working out an extension with Ngata to clear some more cap room.  I wouldn't do it personally, but it will be interesting to see over the next few weeks.

somewhere around 17-18 million I believe. we'll wait for further reports.

And we should be able to open up about $5 million after we cut McClain, Leach, and Maybe Koch.

We will have a respectable amount of cap to play with.

I'm not sure about Leach...  Kubiak liked him, and I know we have Juzchyck. That one is iffy....  But I'd venture to say yes.

McClain I think could be a big help CAP wise...  I know Dickson is going...  They just can't keep him.

Was Dickson ever really here?

Yes... He dropped a couple huge passes. His presence was felt.

If he ever had good hands by god he would be a good weapon

LOL....  I know right???  I'm with SAM.  If he had good hands, he would have been a good weapon.  Trouble is...  he didn't.  Pitta, has the size and GREAT hands.

Well isn't it possible that it's just a one year extension to try to spread the next two years out over three years?

Neither are particularly big.  Pitta is just a much better route runner

What would be the bad thing about restructuring Ngata???  I mean if we can free up more CAP space, all the while keeping him on the roster???  Where's the harm in that... He's still effective up the middle.  (just asking)

Injuries keep racking up and he's hinted at retirement a few times. I'm not sure we can push more money to the future on a guy like that.

A restructure converts salary to signing bonus so it can be prorated over the remaining years of the contract. It essentially makes subsequent years even worse regarding the cap. That's why it is referred to as "kicking the can down the road". An extension adds years to the contract and thus spreads the cap hit out over more years.

Koch is gone for sure.   The guy has been on the decline for 2 years.   Last year's performance pretty much sealed the deal.

Anyone know a fresh face from college thats likely to be a viable candidate for late round/udfa?

12 personnel provides more matchup issues than any other personnel grouping, you can run Kubiak's offense through it, and he likes it. If we can solidify the TE position we won't miss Leach. He barely played last year and wasn't that great.

McClain has got to go though. Way too much money.

Yeah McClain is the key to savings via cut.  Leach and Koch make sense as well, but it's possible they stay.  The only other guy that would constitute enough savings to cut now is Canty, but you aren't going to find much better for the $1.3M you save, so you might as well keep him.  This Suggs extension puts things in motion.

Canty isn't going anywhere....  He came in and became a really good leader last year.  I like him; his play and his personality.

Even if they don't work out a deal with Ngata which they probably will, they still have the options of cutting McClain (which I think it's going to happen to make room for Daryl Smith) and/or Leach. We'll have a good amount of cap space.

Edit: Oh and Koch.

OK...  I'll give on that one....  that makes sense.  I just think you could definitely see a difference when he wasn't in the game.  That center line became a sieve on many occasion, and it was left to Smith to pick up the slack... and Suggs was backed up more too and couldn't make his outside attack...  was kept back to watch that slot.

Yeah I don't see it, but beyond the 3 obvious ones, he's the only one that saves more than $1M if you cut him.  It doesn't make any sense to get rid of him considering we have him under contract for pretty cheap.  In my opinion, those are the only 4 that are going to be constantly recommended to be cut for monetary reasons.  3 make sense, 1 doesn't.
