Definitely. I want him on the team but I'm trying to project what he'll actually be worth when he turns 33, 34, and 35. Is he going to be worth $5M when he's 34? He might not even be worth it at 33 or 32 if the injuries keep going up.

Like I said, you can cut him at the end of the deal if he has seriously declined. IMO he hasnt shown that he is about to stop being a dominant player so a couple million a year isnt going to stop me from trying to keep him.

Fair enough, and I see your point. I'm just less optimistic about his future performance, mainly due to the Achilles injury. That can take years off a career.

I definitely wouldn't guarantee it all. He would have to get a decent signing bonus in order to reduce this year's cap hit, but I think we could give him a deal where he is here for 2-3 years and by the last year we can either keep him or cut him and eat a small amount of dead money.

We had to franchise tag him twice because he was holding out for more money. I love the guy but he wants the money. Maybe he'll give us that hometown discount everyone talks about but I'm pretty sure that discount is a myth.
