Terrell Suggs extended

286 posts in this topic

It's a business, and every team in the NFL does it. I actually think that we do it less than average. I mean, what players have we really even restructured? Who have we seriously talked about restructuring? Boldin, Suggs, and Flacco are the only three big names that come to mind when we talk about who has and who will been in restructure negotiations.

We're almost definitely restructuring Joe's deal after his third season. It goes up to like 30 million. We're going to honor it to the end because he's a franchise QB, simple as that. How we're going to restructure it, I'm not yet sure.

Agreed, all teams do it and it is just the business of the NFL.But doesn't it seem goofy that the team and the player both know that there is no way that the full contract will ever mature, yet everyone signs it anyway? Why not just be realistic from the start and negotiate a contract that both sides know will carry on to the end barring unforeseen circumstances?

I expect Suggs to be here until he retires - just looking at the market last year, older pass rushers really had a hard time finding jobs.  Suggs is one of the most complete OLBs in the game, but he's going to be a 32 year old pass rusher going into his 12th season and hasn't looked like quite the same guy for 16 games as he did before the injury.  I think he knows that, and I think he knows that the best deal he's probably going to get is here in Baltimore.

While I think we would of survived if we had to cut Suggs, I am glad that he is willing to restructure his contract for the team. Let's free up some money for Art and Eugene.

I wonder how many people believe preston over this and how many of said people trashed him when, more than likely, the same source said Harbaugh wasn't involved in recruiting kubiak

The instances are completely different. I didn't believe Preston then because it was just him stirring the pot as usual, and the facts showed that Harbs was involved. What am I supposed to believe? Unsubstantiated rumors or the fact that Kubiak had dinner at Harbaugh's house? That discussion has run its course though, and I don't know why you felt the need to bring it up. This instance is not controversial and actually believable. I'm not going to get excited until I see Aaron Wilson say it though.

If this extension does come, I'll be both shocked and impressed. Great move

just merely stirring the pot that people believe him when the see fit. I find it hard to believe he has any actual proof of a deal being close and is merely assuming so

So... any guesses on what the new contract would be money wise or even length of the contract? I'm guessing a 4 year deal to get him through his age 36 season and then he would retire.

Sounds like Terrell Suggs will be getting the extension we all wanted for Boldin last year...I can live with that.

Save some money, generate cap space and lock up one of the mount Rushmore Ravens.

And it will be nice to see Suggs grab his 100th sack as a Raven next year if we do extend him.

I could easily see the team delaying the announcement or extension to try and prove Preston wrong if it was actually happening.

3-4 year 12-24 million extension sounds reasonable to me. Somewhere between 3 and 6 million a year

That's a pretty big range. My guess would 4 years 25 million.

Yeah, I think it could be anywhere in between.

If I had to give an exact number, I'd prefer it to be 4 years 14 million. I don't want to pay $6 million a year to a 34 year old OLB/DE, because that's how old he'll be toward the end of this deal.

Well you can always cut him then. There's no way he signs an extension for less than 5M per year.

$5M is the absolute most I'd give him, and even then it would be incentive heavy. I'm just very leery of paying over $4M to an aging player who had a significant drop off in production and worsening injury concerns. I don't want his deal to be high on the guaranteed money.

Somebody out there will offer him more than that, unless he agrees to a neighborhood discount...  He's $8.7M against the cap?

That's what I'm thinking.  Just hope he realizes his worth as do other teams.  But I have a feeling that somebody is going to offer to overpay him, just like other teams did with Kruger and Ellerbe.

Well I dont think he would be a Raven then. His production didnt really drop off much at all. This past year was pretty much in line with what he has done over his career and I think he still has a couple more good years in him.

If he ends up getting cut, he will easily make 5M+ on the open market and probably get a deal similar to what we gave Dumervil. That's probably about what I would give him.

Overall, no, his production didn't drop off, but he might as well have not even played in the last eight games. He didn't contribute much at all down the stretch.

That's not really true. I still think he's a player you want to have.

Are they doing this with Rice, Ngata, and Webb?

Ngata gets his turn in 2015, Rice can play that game in 2016, and Webb in 2016/2017 depending on his play the next 2 years.

As for Suggs, he is about 12 mil on the cap this year so something like 5-6 mil for 4 years would work. Save us 6-7 mil on the cap while still letting us keep Suggs. All in all would work out well I believe. Good to hear they are getting closer to an extension however. I wouldn't call him a Mt. Rushmore Raven but he is definitely up there. In the first 8 games he was playing at DPOY level possibly so you don't want to let that walk out the door if you can help it.
