Terrell Suggs extended

It was the Ravens that made the deal. They should have structured it a little better so that Ngata would have less leverage at this stage. How is Joe's deal structured? Will the team be better able to convince him to renegotiate when the time comes?

Yup, we made the deal, we live with the consequences. The Ravens have literally 0 leverage on Haloti right now. Cutting him hurts us, I doubt we want to extend him right now, and he doesn't have to budge. Next year will be a different story, and maybe he will be willing to do something then.

Well it's also that the ravens were expecting a suh,McCoy or Atkins type presence

haloti nata refuses lower his price tag, i dont think he's worth 16 mill next year i think we should look to trade he has not been what he used to be ans constantly injured. i think we can def find a soild run stuffer for alot less then 16 mil. Plus i would love to see us add alot more soild pieces on defense..thoughts?

This comment is not just directed at you but many In this thread don't look at the big picture. It doesn't just work the way you are talking. Ozzie is looking at the whole picture of everyone's contracts over many years. He like any long term good gm puts certain players big money in certain years by design. We aren't just looking at clearing a bunch of space to overpay a bunch of this years mike Wallace or ellerbees We are looking to be in contention every single year with no huge rebuilding years. Last year was as close to one as you will ever see for this team and they were one game out if the playoffs. This team will never waste big money on the first couple days of free agency. Just forget that idea.

So this means we won't be trading for Larry Fitzgerald now? :o

Certainly, but it would seem that it would be prudent to plan for multiple contingencies. Besides, 16 mill is a lot to swallow were he head and shoulders above all others at his position. That is just a lot of money against the cap. Seems like they would plan the whole thing better.

I don't pretend to know anything about those sorts of dollars, but from the outside it looks like a foolish setup, and the Ravens are not the only team to lock themselves up that way. They all do it. Just seems like it could be set up better somehow.

Leach will walk away... you cannot lowball the man. That's disrespectful and serves no purpose.

I'm more concerned with how much Pitta and Monroe will want.  I honestly think Pitta should get a deal like 4yr 27 million.. maybe 20 million guaranteed. The rest tied into playing time and incentives.

Monroe should get a deal similar to the one Jake Long received from the Rams.. Eugene made 5.26 roughly this year...  so 4 yr 33-34 million.. I wouldn't object.

I think the biggest concept going forward is we MUST HIT ON OUR NEXT 2-3 drafts and I mean hit!

I feel like that Pitta deal is good. I think we can negotiate the deal to keep his cost down, but give him more guaranteed money.

Giving Monroe what Long got is fair, but less would be good.

We definitely have to hit on these next few drafts. It's a must.

I don't think we're going to find a trading partner willing to pay his salary for (as you say) someone who's not what he used to be and is constantly injured.

FWIW I think he's looking to play out his contract and retire, so an extension is not what he's focused on right now. We'll probably have to wait until next year to see how this pans out.

That's not the scheme we run, and heck even in the 4-3 the 1-tech isn't know for getting sacks.  You'd expect more from someone making that kind of money obviously, and he seemed to display that ability before the big contract, but he's drastically declined since signing that deal whether through injury or lack of effort (which was the major knock on him coming out of college).  For what it's worth, I think those pass rushing 3-tech are far more worthy of the money than a guy like Ngata.

Well yea.. I was going for just a player ability comparison... The old ngata and what we all thought ngata would be for years easily could compare to those guys

Maybe not the speed and all that but the consistent pressure and some actual QB pressure was what I was going for

Great news! I had purchased a white T-Sizzle jersey with the Super Bowl patch on it before the extension was announced. Way to go, front office and congrats to T-Sizzle!!

Suggs might be the biggest hero of this off-season:   7.8m free cap.   JUST WOW.   The man did his job to be a true team player for the ravens this year.

Nice to have a jersey I don't have to worry about losing! Still want to get a Tucker one, that should be good for a long time.
