Gary Kubiak hired as Ravens Offensive Coordinator

275 posts in this topic

The slap in the face tirade was entertaining. It's also true. Kubs saw what Cleveland had and then promptly came here lol

And now their best hope is a guy that is essentially our leftovers.

Who would go to the Browns? Even I wouldn't if they consider me their next OC cuz I might get fired in the next hour......They are always the punching bag in our division...

The biggest issue is the OL. If we had respectable blocking last season the running game would have been effective and the passing game would have been clicking and not have to sustain the entire unit.

Looking at OL of the Texans, I'm pretty sure we will get one here; with the right coaching, there is no reason our Oline not to improve or excel.

What excited mostly is Gary's input for the offensive draft; he can find us another Andre Johnson or something..lol

I like how Kubiak emphasized that HARBAUGH is the one who initiated talks and wanted to make everything work. Kubiak must be another one of his BFF

Not at all......

If it's true that Vonta and Jacoby were advocating this move for Kubiak to come on board, I have to wonder if they'll be willing to take a smaller salary in order to be working with him again.

Why should they take pay cuts?

I know everybodys happy & thinks John had a hand in this BUT.......notice how Johns coaching staff is being wiped off the face of the earth?

That's a nice narrative, but so far only Harmans and Montgomery have left/been let go, and Harmans was a Billick hire. Not to mention that Harbaugh has control over the coaching staff. I wouldn't read too much into this, it only makes sense that if you're trying to implement a new offensive scheme, you'd want to bring in guys who have been running it for years - the guys we've brought in from the Texans will make the offensive transition much smoother because they already know the system and what Kubiak expects.

Hopefully not, Juice was drafted to be an H-back that can play fb if needed. Leach is too expensive and will just hamper Juice's playing time and I'm ready to move on from Jones, unless he is paid league minimum to return kicks and nothing else.

And Montgomery was a Harbaugh-fire. Watch the end of the year presser when he's asked why Ray Rice wasn't playing for a series or two. He was mad, it was the RB coaches call, RB coach was canned.

it actually didn't have anything to do with that. Montgomery was mike Preston's leak to the media apparently and that's why he went. Biscotti even joked about it in the SOTR press conference

I don't think that was it, I interpreted that as Bisciotti saying HE was the leak... and then he went back and had a private interview with Preston but whatever. I could be wrong, when was it during the presser?

i can't remember what part, there was various tweets and things saying Montgomery was leaking info to Preston.

It's no coincidence NO ONE knew ANYTHING about this oc job, not even AW, after Montgomery is gone.

I think with Kubiak in the fold he's going to want an Andre Johnson-type WR, and I think that Kelvin Benjamin could very well be that guy! I'm getting really excited.

I don't recall any of those tweets but I could jive with that, your reasoning makes sense. That implies, though, that all of Preston's articles and 'insight' since then have been fabricated - which I think is the case - passing his slant / bias as fact. His column today was just sloppy and sad.

I think Kubiak and Dennison were brought here by Harbaugh. Kubiak must have said his name 10+ times during the press conference and stated that Harbaugh was the main reason.

Anyways, steering away from Mike Preston, I love the overhaul to our offensive staff. Sad to see successful position coaches like Harman and Montgomery go but the offense has been substandard for too long.

Kelvin is a good prospect..but comon..andre Johnson is in that rare class.

I think  we work a lot of 2 tight end sets. My guess is we get a physical big blocker ala CJ in the draft to go along with pitta. We lost a lot of blocking upfield with the departure of boldin. We are a smashmouth team. Expect us to be bigger in every aspect.

That's why I said "Andre Johnson-type" - referring to his size/speed/hands combo. I am in no way comparing the two. There is no comparison. Just pointing out physical similarities.

Or more likely the Ravens deny Kubiak permission to take Dennison and promote him to OC. I think there is a reason he'll be the QB coach. Also the Ravens are a smart organization, if Kubiak's name starts to buzz I don't think they'll just allow all the guys who help build this offense to just walk out the door. There will be far too many coaches who will be able to teach this system, QB, WR, TE and RB coaches will probably be added and allow will bring be able to teach and run this offense in some type of capacity. So we'll have a OC in place should Kubiak get a HC job next year.

Also remember Dennison was getting some buzz this time last year as a HC candidate, so even if he is promoted to OC next year, it might only be a one year thing. I think we'll see some young coaches added as position coaches or offensive assistants to learn this system from Kubiak.

Can they even do that?

There is a reason a team has to "grant" permission for you to interview one of their coaches. The Steelers had to grant permission for the Ravens to interview Kirby Wilson.

If Kubiak were to get hired as a HC, Dennison would still be under contract with us(depending on the length). The Ravens would have to grant Kubiak permission to speak with Dennison, but if we have plans on promoting him to OC, why would we even allow him to interview?

I don't think anyone can say what we'll do a lot of right now. 2TE sets will be great for us, but so will 3WR set and other formations. CJ would be a good option, but so would a guy like Marcel Jensen or even Matt Frustenburg.

As for blocking from the WR position, a guy like Kelvin Benjamin would definitely provide that. I'm not sure we go that route, especially in the 1st round but I could definitely see him fitting into this offense and visions of a stud like Johnson. The directions we could go in the draft are endless imo. But I will say i'd prefer guys like Benjamin and Evans in this offense much more then our pervious offense, because this offense will allow them to work in space much more.

I think Marlon Brown will have a huge year in this new looking offense. I'm really excited to see how he progresses.

I think this hiring squashes the dreams of the people who wanted Ed Reed to become the secondary coach.

Agreed. At least until Kubes is gone

Great read from Kevin Byrne on how the hiring went down and Harbaugh's enormous role throughout the process.

Great article. I love reading Kevin's colunms. It's like the FO version of 1 Winning Drive. A behind the scenes look at what's going on.

The Ravens are just too classes to do this but they should really ban some guys from having access to report on the team. It's rediculous some of the things that are reported and then most fans see these guys as "insiders" so they take their opinions as fact. There are honestly a handful of guys on this message board that i'd rather read an article by then a lot of the so called insiders

Kubes has nothing to do with the defense, so if there was a issue between the two it wouldn't matter. Kubes is a offensive coach, not the HC. Plus Ed has far too much respect around that building to not be hired because of another coach.

If he wanted the job and the Ravens were offering, it would happen.

Lol Mike Preston owned again. Funny how Byrne's story actually makes sense, is consistent, and goes with everything Harbaugh/Kubiak/Dennison said at the press conference while Preston's column was rambling and just false.

Great article by Byrne and thanks for sharing I probably would not have seen it until tomorrow
