Gary Kubiak hired as Ravens Offensive Coordinator

275 posts in this topic

The Ravens did the right thing and did what was needed = big offensive coaching shake up. I'm sure Steve stepped in and was a part of making this all happen as well which I'm happy for. I think Kubiak was hands down the best candidate out there no question about it. He seems like a humble silent professional type and besides for the diaster in Houston last year his record speaks for itself and so do the players that worked under him

This will be an amazing staff if we get it done:

Offensive Coordinator - Gary Kubiak

Quarterbacks - Rick Dennison

Running Backs - Bobby Turner

Tight Ends - Brian Pariani

Wide Receivers - Larry Kirksey

Crazy! So many new names. We basically cleaned out the entire offensive staff besides Juan...is Moeller still here?

Really hope the reports are true that were hiring Pariani as well. While we are shaking up the offensive staff in terms of the Ravens, that would be three coaches coming in who are obviously going to be on the same page as they worked together for the last however many years. If we coudn't get consistency in the Ravens staff, I love the move of bringing in consistency. It seemed last year there were so many offensive coaches preaching different things that there was no way the players could succeed to their full potential. With an offensive coordinator, QB coach, and TE coach who all will be preaching the same thing, (and even reports of us bringing in their running backs coach) the offensive philosophy should spread very quickly with few hiccups, at least in terms of not getting completely different messages based on which coach a player talks to. Obviously reservations always need to be held until we see results, but you can find very few things to complain about in terms of the Texans offense during Kubiaks tenure there, and I dont believe Kubiak has ever had a quarterback like Flacco to work with. Not making predictions, but I am very optimistic Kubiak can bring success to the Ravens offense

One texans fan said Kubiak should improve working with Harbaugh as he is a "top 5 HC". Seems Harbs is well respected outside of Bmore.

Yeah I saw that and thought to myself about our ungrateful fans. I think people hate Flacco so much they figure Harbaugh has to be the main reason of our success since he's doing it with a horrible QB lol

I went to the browns forums and it's just too depressing to read through. It's like be on an orioles forum and I know their pain.

I would  take Larry Kirksey out and add in Jimmy Robinson

Any recent hires? I know Pariani, but is that all for now? Harbaugh is talking like we'll need a new receivers coach, so let's snag the guy from Dallas and Bobby Turner. That would be a dream team.

Hope this works.  We're essentially doing the reverse of what the Texans did.  We have a defense and now trying to strengthen our offense, while for years their offense was productive with nothing from the other side.  Wonder if he'll have any draft input as well.  Hope this works out and even more, that if it does, there is some continuity.

I really look forward to seeing if Pierce can capitalize on this focus towards zone down hill running. It's made for him. This in theory could give Rice more cut back lanes, he needs that.

I agree, Pierce is an ideal back in Kubiac's offense. If he can just manage to stay healthy, he's in for a big year.

I can guarantee you that the people who don't like Flacco don't think Harbaugh is the reason for our success.  They will attribute it to a good core team that was hampered by injuries the year before Harbaugh was made HC and I think they have a slight case for that, as well as a crucial draft by Ozzie in 08, where he landed a "franchise qb" and rb, depending on your definition.

You happen to have a link to that Browns forum?

Yea it's a good argument. But I don't think the recent bashing of Harbaugh was warranted. He did guide our team to a super bowl. Coaches with even better teams have failed much harder in the past (Norv Turner)

Great hire which is true to John Harbaugh's form. Again hired a former head coach with a great resume for leading an offense. Best man available for the job. I don't think for a minute, now that Coach has made his decision, that Biscotti had his hand in this. Kubiak gives us exactly what John Harbaugh said he was looking for.

From Cam Cameron, to saying Chudz is still available, to it being a slap in the face that Kubiak came here.

So true. He's always targeted the best he can. He did it again.

I wonder when Joe and the other offensive players are going to start diving in to the new playbook, etc. I know the new CBA handcuffs the team to some extent, but I'm pretty sure the players can do whatever they want if it's voluntary...

If it's true that Vonta and Jacoby were advocating this move for Kubiak to come on board, I have to wonder if they'll be willing to take a smaller salary in order to be working with him again.

Joe has already spoken to Kubes so I'm sure he's already been sent a Ipad playbook to at least dive into. If I'm not mistaking guys can come get their playbooks, but they can't have direct coaching of it.

The slap in the face tirade was entertaining. It's also true. Kubs saw what Cleveland had and then promptly came here lol

And now their best hope is a guy that is essentially our leftovers.

The biggest issue is the OL. If we had respectable blocking last season the running game would have been effective and the passing game would have been clicking and not have to sustain the entire unit.
