Extra Point

Over on nfl.com, they are running an article about possible rule changes that would get rid of the extra point. Any thoughts?

I agree it should be removed or better yet it should be a 40 yard attempt so at least there's a bit of doubt if he make sit or not

Not a fan of the idea they proposed as I don't think it would change the dynamic of the game. I'd be in favour of pushing the kicker back 15 yards though.

What if team's had a decision where if they made a kick less than 45 yards, it'd be worth one point, and if the kick was good from 45 or more, it would be worth 2?

It's a part of the game and it doesn't hurt anything.  Leave it be.  Hasn't the extra point been pretty much automatic for a long time?  Maybe move them back a few yards if you're that worried about it, but there's no need for some drastic change to the scoring system.

I don't think there will be a change though. Probably won't get enough support from coaches and players.

Im surprised this is blowing up as much as it is recently. What I think needs to change is overtime rules- either play out the entire quarter or TD wins the game, I hate seeing teams make one or 2 big plays then just kick a FG.

the extra point should stay and the only change to it should be to move it back to the 20/30 yards line, thus making it a 30/40 yards attempt

Injuries happen too much on extra point plays(Gronkowski). Get rid of it. It's successful 99.8% of the time.

No need for the extra point, unless pushed back to 25+ yard line to make it more interesting. It'd be fun to contemplate whether to kick for a 40+ yard FG or to go for it from the 3 yard line.

Well the Extra point has been moved back to the 15 yard line although 2 point conversions remain at the 2 yard line

Personally I don't think the league would have a problem with that.

Stupid rule imo.  Close games are going to be won and lost by which kicker screws up or which team makes more 2 pt. conversions.  They shouldn't be decided that way. 

 

It might benefit the Ravens because Tucker is a great kicker, but I still think the rule change sucks.

I agree. The extra point has always been a gimme and getting the 7th point was actually a reward for not kicking a FG. What the NFL should have did if the play was so boring was eliminate it entirely and just give teams a choice if they wanted to go for 2 or not.

Without a doubt mainly cuz weather can factor in. Plus I can't really see why a defense should be rewarded with 2 pts with returning a turnover after they just gave up a TD buuuut maybe that will make coaches think twice about going for 2.

 

Just thought of something else what if you get a holding penalty on the extra point attempt can you then decide to go for 2?

SpTeam scoring is gonna be crazy next year and decide a lot of games.

 

Imo the defensive scoring since they decided on it should only 1 pt for extra point attempts and 2 pts for 2 pt conversion attempts lol. And the score is now 6-1. I'd be saying "What inning is it in".
