Ravens that can be considered the best ever

44 posts in this topic

I like the list but the only oldtimer is Jim Brown.

Agreed. I like the list, but when you go back in history and look at the legends of the game it's impossible to choose 'who's the greatness' at any position. Especially when you consider that alot of them played both ways and special teams. My head just blew-up thinking about it. :surrender:

Not me. I've always loved the way he played. Hate for the Steelers used to distort my respect for him but he's been the best SS of the decade and best I've ever seen.

Ew

I think best SS of the decade has to go to B Dawk, and if you are in your twenties you should remember steve Atwater. Both guys were pretty much what polamalu was but both were more physically imposing. Troy is about 4th imo in the last 30 years.

I'm only 19. Was always a Ravens fan, just never started following other teams or desired learning more about the game until around 2006

Where would yall rank Chris Mcalister as an all-time corner? Top 25? Just curious to see if anybody on here is as high on him as I am

C-Mac definitely had HoF talent but I don't think he's an all-time CB or top-25. The position is just ridiculously deep and there are tons of guys that had longer and better careers. With that said, McAlister's '06 season was just ridiculous. I don't remember him giving up a TD all season and he seemingly locked up his man every week.

I hear ya.  But at his best, if he were on my team, I wouldnt feel like I lost much at that position compared to the others in the top 25 besides Deion, Night Train Lane, Bailey, and about 5 others

Is this an exercise in just "whos the best at each position?" or are we selecting a best-ever team?

Very different conversations. When selecting the latter, some consideration has to go into what type of offense/defense you'd prefer to run, and guys that could play well together. Also what era this team is playing in makes a difference.

If it's the pass happy NFL of today, then athletic, rangy linebackers may hold a bit more weight than the downhill, hardhitting style of years past. May or may not matter to anyones post, but I think this added twist would make for some more interesting debate and allow for more players to crack the lists.

I remember seeing a play where he did his infamous jump over the offensive line. He completely missed the running back and didnt contribute to the play at all.  Yet the commentators still talked about it all game and it even made sportscenter.  He is a solid player and all, but I could jump over an O-line and miss the running back.  He has been injury plagued for a while now, and his numbers are laughable compared to those of an Ed Reed or Ronnie Lott.  People tend to get to caught up on his "athletic" diving plays to really see that he is simply a rangy safety who is above average at tackling.  I dont see any erea of his game that can be considered GOAT

I'd say below average tackler

Surprised to see so little Larry Allen and Joe Greene. Greene was, in my opinion, the best Steeler to ever play the game, and that's saying something
