Game of Thrones season 4

Well I am quite pleased Tyrian survived. Of all the people I thought he would kill I figured it would be his sister. Surprise. I was surprised how cold blooded aryia was with the hound as well. Plent of cliff hangers all around. Ugh.

I really wanted to tell you to wait until the episode before abandoning ship, but figured that would have hinted too much. :P

As much as it sucks that Oberyn died, that should give everyone an idea of how much of a plot mover his death was. Apparently they've already cast a few Dornishfolk for the next season, so that's something to look forward to (in a year's time. Sigh).

And a few comments on the episode... (so don't read on if you haven't seen it but are on this thread for some weird reason)

The one thing I'm a bit disappointed by is how the Tyrion and Shae encounter went. In the books they had a nice dialogue going and I think Peter Dinklage would have really nailed it. What the show managed to do from early in season four was make their relationship more complex imo, and I think they could have made killing Shae a really gut-wrenching thing for all involved but missed a really nice payout for all their buildup.

Loved how they ended the episode. I was a bit disappointed when I thought they'd just have Arya walk off, but that scene with her on the boat (or even the captain saying "Valar Dohaeris") was the perfect cliffhanger.

And nice to see Stannis showing up. He flew under the radar a bit this season.

I haven't read up to that point in the books so I won't comment on the buildup but it could have been handled better, they pretty much just went at each other as soon as she realized he wasn't Tywin.

I don't really see how the Arya bit is much of a cliffhanger, it looks like she is going to Braavos and will probably meet back up with Jaqen although what awaits her there could be unknown.

Yeah it was heavily hinted at in the show that he was going north. They didn't show the army or have him say he was going to defend castle black but from the dialogue at the end of the 3rd episode, to him getting an army, to them preparing to leave, the signs were there to see. I guess like Tywin going to Kings Landing in season 2. There were some good shots when his army arrived however, good to see some big bucks spent on that.

Also I find it kinda weird that Tyrion kills his father on father's day, don't know whether that was intentional or not(I don't know if you guys have that in New Zealand but over here, we had it today).

Cliffhanger probably wasn't the right word, and iirc I said as much last week. But take Danerys after she conquered Yunkai at the end of season three. If you hadn't heard her "the world is mine and everything in it" spiels, you could theoretically end the show like that. But with Arya and Tyrion, you get left wondering what they'll get up to. It's less the show resetting the board and more setting up something bigger.

I liked the Stannis arrival. I think the show was really indefinite about when he'd go north - just saying it was on the agenda a couple of times. Agree about the money allocation. The big-time military movements have looked nice when they've done them.

I forgot it was Father's Day over there. We have it here, but it's in like September. Of course, if you didn't have Memorial Day that wouldn't have happened. :P

Thanks for leaving that one open. A lot of people were saying the mountain died as well and thst would save him. But I didn't see the show going there. Very interested to see what direction the next season will go. I keep expecting to see the zombies play a bigger role.

Okay I get what you mean, it should be interesting to see what Tyrion, Varys, and Arya end up doing next. Maybe instead of resetting the board, we can call it reloading the board lol

Yeah they were a bit murky on that one. They kept it very under wraps but you could tell that he was going to go, they did show the preparations for them leaving so it was more when he gets there so yeah you are right lol

Should be interesting to see what happens in Kings Landing following these events.

Did stannis save the day in the book as well?

Yes, but the battle was much more satisfying.
