Am I the only one who loved the gore?!? He should have finished the damn job. Now he's literally got eyes in the back of his head.

I'm still emotionally unstable. I actually believed that Oberyn would win and get revenge, I guess it was my own fault really haha

I think the big thing is you didn't see it coming (if you hadn't read the books). You were taken from the joy of watching the mountain die and Oberyn getting his revenge to the horror of Oberyn getting his eyes gouged out and his skull exploding in a matter of seconds. It was very well done by the show and it really was a good twist. That state of shock in seeing it all turn and going from the feeling of the emotional victory of Oberyn getting his revenge to the horror of watching a favorite character die really amped up that feeling of horror. Then there is the fact that it is a gruesome scene as well lol, I mean that was probably the most gruesome death in the show just by itself. I mean sure there are plenty of other death scenes that were bad too like when it took Theon a good number of swings to behead the guy but what made the difference in those situations is you were better prepared for the violence and it really didn't have as much of an effect. This time, as well as in the Red Wedding, the violence is a complete surprise and that had a much stronger effect on the audience.

I was done assuming anything about this show two seasons ago.

Thanks for explaining that. I had no clue how my emotions worked.

I just had to vent a bit about that one, helps me come to peace about it if I can get a clear understanding of it all

I'd like an understanding about how a man can explode another mans head with pressure, strength, and science. That's impressive.

I agree lol, I guess all the blood in the head as well as the brain and everything. You would think all of that would go down into the body instead of popping the skull but I am no medical expert on it lol

The show cast the right guy for it, the Mountain is the biggest and strongest man in the realm by far.

They can't / won't kill Peter dinklage off. Well, I suppose if he dies in the books they have to kill him, but I think that would have a negative effect on the tv series. I was actually shocked they gave sean bean a role that kills him so quickly.

As a reader of the books I was concerned the Oberyn v Mountain Duel wouldn't live up to the book but I thought it did a pretty darn good job and from all the reactions I'm sure of it.  One of my absolute favorite moments in the book where you think you see the twist (in that Oberyn will win over the mountain) and then BAM!  I wish they would have added some of the more gruesome stories about the mountain over the seasons.  He really is the most terrible guy out there.

I love how your favorite character is never safe. NO ONE is safe.  In most shows the cut to commercial or to be continued cliffhanger where the main guy is in peril is sort of hollow.  It's like "how's he getting out of this one?".  In GOT you know that character could be dead.

Seriously dude, Sean Bean is great but you can't be surprised if his character dies. He's a walking spoiler at this point.

im just saying he would have been better as tywin than ned. Makes more sense. He was a big draw for many people just to have him killed

lol so true. You should know what to expect when an actor has numerous death compilation videos on YouTube.

I read that fight in the ball park of a year ago, and the sudden twist like that still makes me uneasy. I agree about needing to have built more on his atrocities, although if nothing else there's still the Riverlands stuff. Hopefully the show treats him the same as the book did from here.

No character being safe is great. Heroes being untouchable was getting pretty old. At that was the thing about this Mountain-Viper duel too, you knew that genuinely anything could happen.

Yeah they have hardly showed him since he chopped that horse in half in season 1; probably because they just recast him every season. Wish he got more screen time in the show, preferably when fighting people.

Well they did mention him in season 1 when he went into the riverlands and did a bunch of stuff. They also showed him in season 2 in Harrenhal. But there has certainly been a gap. If only Edmure hadn't been stupid, we might have seen his death a while ago.

Dunno what you're complaining about, Robb has a mill now.

I can't see him as Tywin at all.  He's been bad guys before, but Charles Dance is menacing and is a perfect fit for the character.  It's not like losing Sean has hurt the show.

If anything, it has let Peter Dinklage shine even more, also I agree that Dance has done very well as Tywin

I know he was in a few minor things before, but Nikolaj Coster-Waldau might compete with Dinklage for the breakout star of the show.  He's gotten a lot of jobs because of it, I believe, and he's fantastic as Jaime.  But yeah, Dinklage is the man.

Emilia Clarke is hot and all, but outside of her command voice I'm not sure she's giving the most nuanced performance.  The guy they have playing Jon isn't great.

Yeah Jon Snow's actor is pretty mediocre. The guy who plays Ramsay is excellent IMO.

That kid is delightfully evil, that dude has it down.  I really love Iain Glen's portrayal of Jorah too.  Really, most of the actors are quite well cast.

Yeah he has done a lot with Jamie, a very complex character. I generally trust a lot of the decisions they have made in selecting the actors. Also an interesting point with Clarke. The guy who plays Ramsey is really fun to watch as well even though Ramsey is evil to the bone.
