Game of Thrones season 4

249 posts in this topic

Turns out they released the first trailer last week. Looks pretty interesting, and I got more excited about seeing Oberyn Martell than I should have.

Bruce Willis is dead.

Anyway, here's the video if anyone else is interested. May as well get the S4 thread rolling.

My problem with trailers like that is that they're basically the NFL Draft of a new series. Exciting to watch and give you a decent(ish) idea of where the season's going, but that makes the wait seem even longer.

Season starts April 17.

Friendly reminder to use those

They teased some big stuff. Normally big events are episode 9 and I think 4 has contained some big events too, but they might have to push the first big event up based on where they left off. I think anyone who read the books has the same bet for what happens in episode 9.

Obviously without seeing the season yet, I suspect they might have picked up the tempo of the show a bit too quickly. Although at least two of the scenes they hinted at are pretty much my favourites in the series, so I guess waiting an extra year for one of them may not be too flash.

In saying that, they released an interesting video a few hours ago, and in it the actor of Loras Tyrell talked about how the season won't be geared so much towards the two major peaks (eps 4 & 9) this time around. It seems like there's a lot more going on in this season than there has been in the past three.

As a fair warning to everyone else, it's called the foreshadowing video so while I feel you need to have read the books to really know what they're showing, watch at your own risk.

I watched that as well.  The second part of A Storm of Swords, basically from the RW on, a lot happens so it makes sense that there might not be the feeling of peaks.  I still think 'the ending event', if you read you should know what I mean, will take place in episode 9.  That was such a great end to the book, just how all that went down.  So excited to see it happen.  And how Tyrion gets in trouble, that's also great.

Could be right about episode nine. I agree that the second half of book three was probably the most action-packed of the whole series to date. That said, the whole city just wasn't the same afterwards and the series almost got stale (heresy to say such things I know, but DWD breathed new life into the books imo). But I digress, haha.

To take a stab at episodes 9 and 10 (obviously not intended to be clicked by those who haven't read the books):

I first thought the battle between Oberyn Martell and Gregor Clegane would be ep 9 and Tyrion's jailbreak the finale as an epic cliffhanger. But I can also see the escape headlining episode 9.

I've been getting more excited to see this since January. Planning to marathon the first three seasons before April 17, but need to find something else to fill the time before then and once I've finished with Spartacus.

I am excited for this new season to finally get underway. I am actually getting into the books now so I won't have everything spoiled for me lol

New season starts today here in NZ, but I suspect I'll have to wait for tomorrow with everyone else.

Sky TV's done an interesting marketing campaign. They put up a statue of King Joffrey in Aotea Square, and attached it to a machine rigged to pull the rope and topple the statue if it gets enough #Bringdowntheking tweets.

The books are well worth it. He has a really heavy writing style, but it's great once you get into it.

I am getting into the 1st one now. I am probably too late to catch up on this season but I hope to be caught up to where the books left off by season 5. Definitely a good read so far

Watched seasons 1-3 over the past month. Ordered HBO today, lol. Can't wait!

I'm still in the process of marathoning all three seasons. I'm early in s3 right now. It was a tough marathon to time as I had some awkwardly timed shifts and I'm still not sure when I'll get access to the new season.

I read them all after season 3. The wait for the new season's been killing me slowly since the Ravens season ended. It'll be even worse for you as you'll have most of the year to wait for s5. :P That said, this season is the most action-packed part of the story to date imo. What's coming up after that feels better suited to books.

Yeah I have heard from a lot of people that there are going to be some crazy twists in this season (don't spoil it yet). But I can catch up on the books hopefully while I wait for season 5. I am just glad it is back again in 93 minutes

93 minutes? I didn't know it was that soon. Exciting times indeed. Should be enough to keep me ticking over until the draft.

What was the take in previous GoT threads about spoiling episodes? Ie, what's the precedent for talking about what's already been shown? The book stuff is easy: just use

[/*spoiler] tags for specifics but it's probably best to keep them sparing, haha.

Yes, very exciting times. And okay sounds good to me then

The events of this season have more impact on the overall story than the big one last year, assuming of course that your opinion isn't clouded by like of certain characters.

That is true, in terms of the overall story, the event really didn't have a huge impact.

So everyone has a certain character or team they root for yes? Me personally I am Stannis Baratheon fan. I love him and the witch. I hope he does a lot this season seeing as he is only one with big enough balls so far who has attacked the king...But he is my favorite character, I wish he had bigger role.

Oh and btw tonights episode was awesome and epic!!!!

You people make it very hard not to spoil minor things.

I would explain my allegiances, but it will give away what happens this season.

Therefore you need to zip it

Well worth the wait. :D

I'm partial to Bronn and Tyrion - I love how the characters bounce off each other in their interactions.

Minor thing, but it grates me when characters get a different actor between seasons. They didn't even try to make Daario look like he did in s3. I do like how he appears more gritty in the show than the books, mind.

I want to speculate where things go from here (timing-wise), and I feel like I can make a better guess after tonight.

Yeah there was quite a bit of foreshadowing last night. Should be interesting to see how the pieces play out

If the preview is to be believed, the wedding is next week.

Yeah. It did say "next", not "this season on"

Although minor details, it does annoy me that Jaime is already back in King's landing (unlike the books) and he is still attracted to Cersei (which isn't in the books).

Also not in the books, Oberyn Martell isn't bi sexual and the sex scenes just really need to go. You have a show with substance, you don't need to write plot lines just to show a pair of breasts or butt. Just tell the story that Martin wrote....
