Frequent penalized player in the league or just the Ravens? Someone on here had a post saying Mike wasn't penalized much this season it was another player.

Since he's been drafted he's been the most penalized 2009-2013

He had 6 penalties this year, but I think he has more total penalties than anyone in the league since 2009.

He did not have many last year, either. In other words, he's improved A LOT since his early years. How long will you hold his rookie season against him? What he did then has no bearing on his value now.

I'm not holding anything against him. I said earlier that I thought he served the ravens well.

you missed the entire point. Didnt say anything about him "wanting" to get paid more than a TE, the piece was about what it might cost us to place the franchise tag on him because of the way he's used in our offense.

that's how these stupid, irrational hate bandwagons start up...people not reading.

I know I shouldn't respond to this, I should just let it go, but I am going to respond...my post was not a response to the article it was a response to the sentiment that Pitta MUST STAY HERE, I don't think he MUST STAY especially if the price is too high. I am sure all players "want" the most money they can get. How about doing a little reading yourself before you accuse others of not doing so.

Oher allowed a team high 8 sacks and 42 qb hurries...he's most likely gone

Thanks for the info. Yeah. He's gone unless nobody else offers him squat.

I'm less worried about his penalties, as I do think he has improved greatly since then. My issue with Oher is going to be almost completely monetary...

I think Oher knows that he can potentially be a LT for a needy team, and he will desire to do that and get paid as such. If so, I see no scenario where we could retain him.

Similarly, I'm not convinced we couldn't find a replacement level RT in either FA or the draft that could be equally as good as Oher... and a significantly lower price tag.

It just feels like in the list of priorities the Ravens have this season, he just doesn't rank high enough to warrant the hassle of trying to extend him at a team-friendly price.

It's seeing the same "most penalized since 2009" that gets me because it doesn't reflect the current situation.

From our Myth Busters thread:

Myth: Oher is a penalty machine/false starts every game.

Truth: in 2013 Michael Oher was penalized a total of 6 times. Only 3 of those were false starts and they were ALL in the same game (possible officiating issue?). Oher had 4 false starts in 2012. In comparison, Yanda was penalized 7 times and 5 of those were false starts in 2013. He has 3 false starts in 2012.

Oher wasn't even the most penalized lineman on our own team.

I didnt think so either but sarah's article states the following.

In 2008,

Terrell Suggsicon-article-link.gif filed a grievance to get a defensive end franchise tag, which gets paid more than a linebacker. The two sides ultimately agreed on a reported $8.5 million hybrid defensive end-linebacker franchise tag.

yeah, he [filed a grievance], because thats all you can do.

yeah i read the article too, i know what it said and i know how the franchise tag works.

Tags are set by the league...specifically, they're the average of the top 5 (or 10, dont remember, somebody else look it up) players at each position, and thats that, period. you dont get to change the tag as a player. What you can do is file a grievance to get what you feel is a more appropriate tag placed on you if you so choose like Suggs did.

What Suggs ultimately did was force the Ravens to negotiate a one year contract. The Franchise tag didnt change because Suggs was unhappy, all the other OLBs and/or DEs who got the tag placed on them that year made the same amount that was set for that position...because like i said before, you dont negotiate a franchise tag.

One way or the other, its highly unlikey Pitta makes 12 million because he'll either get a long term deal done first, or work out some kinda one year thing like Suggs...because THAT's the whole point of the franchise tag to begin with...to motivate people to get deals done so that they dont have to pay an insanely expensive one year rental price for a player that's too valuable to let walk.

Yeah, the "most penalized since 2009" stat is kind of silly, for a number of reasons. I wasn't trying to propagate the myth you posted. I was responding to someone that asked over what time period was he the most penalized player in the league.

Can one of the moderators please bust out some photo shop skills and give Jacoby an O's hat, or at the very least blur out the Logo, like they censor out nudity on tv.

Sorry, but mods don't have the ability to change the articles or the pictures. Many of us are as bummed by the picture as you.

I would not be surprised if Cincy, Cleveland and the Dolphins go after him and possibly some other teams that use a "power blocking" scheme. He's been switched from Rt to LT to RT to LT to RT then asked to go from a "power" run blocking scheme to a "zone" blocking scheme. Ogden could not have done that effectively. Whoever gets Oher will get a good tackle and he will come back to bite the Ravens.

I doubt it but if we lose PITTA, i give up on this team trying to become a contender.

We all saw how this team was without him.

Props to Mrs. Tuohy for standing up for her boy. Michael Oher served the Ravens well, but as many have said here, he'll likely be drawn out of Baltimore by a more lucrative contract somewhere else. If this is the end of his tenure as a Raven, I wish him the best.

Omg! I've been saying we Need a QB coach since this season started. Y'all Neg me; And now most of you finally agree just because Mike Preston said it? Hilarious, Well Mike Preston also said Stafford, Dalton and Flacco are the same QB with Dif. Jerseys!

Perhaps the only time I agree with Mike Preston on anything is his opinion about Joe Flacco needing a QB coach. I totally believe Joe needs to work on his accuracy and skill levels this off season. He also needs to work with all potential WR targets in the off season well before OTAs. He has to emulate elite QBs work ethic if one day he wants to be in that category.

I'm with Ellicott on this one.....  I think that Preston can be construed as even being Anti-Ravens sometimes... He'll bash the kerschmack out of the team.  You'd think he might offer up some constructive advice, instead he'll tear them down.

I love Pitta but if it will cost $11.5M to franchise him there is no way the Ravens can do that. He will be offered deals in the 24 hours of free agency. Ravens will be down to Furstenburg....and maybe Dickson. Sounds like the Ravens aren't expecting anything from Mellette, Sheppard or D. Thompson at WR. Ravens could be drafting in the top 10 in 2015.

I agree. I am a Joe supporter, BUT: Joe does need some help. He needs a lot of accuracy drills, balance drills and defense reading drills. He also needs some leadership classes. I know, I know you can't teach leadership --- baloney!! Yes you can, anyone who is not a natural leader can be taught leadership.

Joe also needs 10 other players on the field that are being coached properly and being held accountable if not playing well.

The head coach needs to be help accountable, eems he's not...CovetedI said all year that if the oline improved 30% by the end of the year we would make the play offs. It didn't, we didn't.

I concur with the Rice weight observation. He has added weight each year since his rookie year. He is only 5-8. You can't carry that much and project to be what brought you here. You have a short shelf-life Ray. Lose the weight.

A lot is being made of Rice not being in the last game. I really just thought they wanted to give Bernard scott some time against his old team. They've done that in the past.

Hue Jackson > Jay Gruden. I hope The FO doesn't sit on their hands too long and miss out on the top candidates to (please, hopefully) revamp the offense.

I actually want Oher back. Sandra Bullock is right, he's played every game. One in the hand is worth two in the bush. The penalties hurt but if a new contract doesn't cripple the team I'm for it. I clearly remember how nasty he is, driving guys in to the ground. I think they've had a talk with him over the years because that effort isn't as apparent now. Still, he's not exactly a turnstile and he's part of the system. At least the pre-Castillo system...

If Pitta's tag goes up $5 mil. it's gonna be hard to keep him. We can't gut half the team for one player. Extensions are on the horizon. Hope he doesn't go that route but can't blame him if he does. I guess it's up to the F.O. to figure out if he does. Stay Dennis!

"Want" and "can" are not the same. How can the Ravens afford them both. ONLY IF MIchael gives a huge hometown discount of if a deal falls through with Eugene will he be here next year.

How about a nice little artificial intelligence setup? They use them for our Wounded Warriors and they are lifelike. Because I agree, Joe needs work on his timing and accuracy. He will be getting expensive these next couple of years....
