[News] Late For Work 1/10: Franchising Dennis Pitta May Cost $5 Million More Than Expected

I agree with Preston's quick point. Why we don't have a QB coach when 29 other teams did (before the coach firings, Buffalo's OC is also their QB coach and McDaniels is New England's along with being OC, but does Brady really need a QB coach at this point in his career). It boggles my mind thinking about it, especially considering that in the one full season where Flacco had a dedicated QB coach (before half a season of Caldwell in '12) in Zorn, he posted the best overall numbers and QB rating of his career. I don't think its a coincidence and the team is doing Joe, Tyrod, and any other QB they may bring in a disservice by continuing to think they don't need someone to help these guys continue growing as players.

Is it the RB coach who decides what RB is in the game at that time???

Rice gets a pass cuz you can't cut him.

I hope we can work it out with both Suggs and Pitta.

Ugh Jacoby take that NY hat and trade it for an Os hat.

In all seriousness though I am worried why a lot of our players seem to fluctuate in weight. Is it the trainers? Is it the lack of discipline? Are or players just getting older?

The mom is right. Oher is probably one of the most down-to-earth players I've seen.

If only he could get done with those drive-killing false starts, I would LOVE to have him back. But with Oher we do get a someone healthy as opposed to someone who is better but gets injured. Mrs.Touhy has a point. If he comes cheap, why not?

Well, I'm happy to see that the Ravens aren't the ONLY team making terrible coaching choices this year. Maybe the Titans will interview Juan Castillo for their opening. A man can dream....

I think that fine is ridiculous they slapped on Ihedigbo. I get the penalty being called in real time, but I just don't see it. I'm all for making the game safer but it's really getting stupid these days, especially when the penalties don't go your way. It is nice to here that they are holding the reffing crews accountedable now for making to many mistakes, or missing calls repeatedly.

Stop worrying about those compensatory picks. Guys we picked this year didn't even make the final cut (Marc Anthony and someone else). Go for quality instead of accumulating 8-10 below average guys.

If you line up as a slot receiver 75% of the time, you still get TE money. But if it's 76% of the time, you get WR money.

Wow...just mind boggling how over complicated this crap has become.

Mrs. Tuohy. You're correct. He doesn't complain, and is there every game, and plays hard. But he's just not good enough. He's not the dominating lineman a team needs. He will demand top lineman money, but he is not a top lineman.

Graham would win that easily...he lead the league in receiving TDs and at one point was second only to Calvin Johnson in receiving yards. Saints wont even let it get that far if they're smart.

Caldwell's not getting hired. If he was, it would already be done. these arent like going out for regular jobs, where they send you home to sit around for a few weeks while they mull it over; if they want you, you're gone in the next 3 days.

and 210's still too much, 190-203 is more like it. He's only 5'8", nobody that small is supposed to be so heavy, and youre not gonna turn him into a power back no matter how heavy you make him, he doesnt have the frame for it. so stop being lazy and fix the REAL problem: the o line, cuz Jamal Lewis aint comin through that door.

Yeah, that hat is disgusting.

With the weight thing, I think it depends on who you're talking about. I don't think we're talking about "lazy offseason weight" with Ray Rice. I think he tried to bulk up, and put on muscle weight. So if anything, that's almost being too disciplined and trying something that didn't work. With a guy like Bryant McKinnie who shows up to camp fat every year, I think there's definitely a discipline problem there (at one point, the Vikings website listed him at 335, he admitted that he actually weighed 360 at the end of one season, and then showed up to camp at almost 400 lbs). McKinnie is a walking discipline problem, and I'm sure that contributed to the ravens parting ways with him this year. But I think in general, the ravens are pretty well-disciplined as far as offseason training goes, with a few exceptions here and there.

We do need a QBs coach! It's ridiculous that we didn't have one last year. The only teams in the league without a dedicated QBs coach were the Ravens, Bills, Browns, and Patriots. And we were the ONLY team out of those 4 without a coach with the title of QBs coach in addition to other titles.

Why don't we ever give Joe Flacco proper coaching for his position? Whenever we do, he shows great improvements, and then we take them away! (Jackson replaced by Zorn, then no coach, then Caldwell, then no coach again) What are they thinking? We have been consistently getting in the way of our offense's success through poor coaching staff decisions on that side of the ball.

Before Oher or his Mom start thinking about what dollar amount to "command", they need to figure out how many of the 40+ sacks on Flacco did he give up? Does anyone out there know that stat?

In Oher's defense, he cut waaaay back on his penalties this year. He only had 3 false starts all year, and they all came on thanksgiving. His 6 total penalties is his lowest total in any year since he came into the league. Every other year he had at least 10.

Jacoby better take off that NY hat if he has any hopes of staying in Baltimore.

On a serious note, I don't think we need a QB coach. Why do we need a coach for every position? Your OC should double as a QB coach, and they should both be involved in making up the gameplan. Of course, that would require a OC who can call plays from the field and doesn't require sitting in the booth. Hoping Caldwell gets fired so we can address this right away.

Nobody in particular. Just pointing out that the amount of routes ran as a WR or TE can govern a amount in one's pay check.

I like that the Ravens may pick a WR with their first pick. And I agree with that decision. We need a stud WR. Plain and simple. After the first round the WR pool of player's is still decent but not "elite". This team needs an "elite" WR, and in this league you only get a Dez, Julio, Aj Green type of player by growing some hair on your chest and going after one in the first. Enough said. The O-ine pool will still be great in the second round, where we will make our move for one of them. That way we get an elite WR hopefully and a solid lineman. Instead of a solid lineman and a decent WR.

fight fight fight - the issue with Oher isn't just the penalties. Yes he's cut them down, which helps a LOT. The problem is he gets beaten often. Whether it's a decision on who to block or just athletically, I saw him get beaten way too often this year.
