Ravens Season-Review Press Conference

334 posts in this topic

I'm on Twitter and I am absolutely laughing at every media outlet over reacting to what Ozzie said about Suggs. It's like they think he is gone automatically or something.

i don't think it's overreacting at all.  There's a very good chance that Suggs is gone.  It's an absolute certainty that he will not be staying at his current cap number.

Newsome said organization has identified type of receiver that team wants and "before 2014 season ends, we will have that guy on our team."

So we're not drafting a WR? Because, that makes it sound like we will get someone in FA.

I think what he really meant to say there was before the 2014 OFFseason ends.  He mentioned draft, free agency, and trade as options to acquire a receiver.  He left the door open there.

The only thing they really left unclear was the plan with Caldwell. If he doesn't get another job, what do they do with him? They kind of skirted around this, so I think they may be moving on from him either way. I think the only reason he's still around is they want to give him the courtesy of potentially moving on his own terms if he gets a HC job rather than firing him.

My guess is they keep him...not ideal imo, but I think he also deserves a better chance with better personnel.

I was also hoping both Moeller and Castillo would be gone, but getting rid of one might be just as effective. They seemed to be stepping in each others toes last year.

You won't be saying that when he's on our squad giving us 150+ yard games.

you're a little far-fetched.... considering he hasnt done it that man times.... and also, hes often hurt and is a legal issue..

I found it interesting when asked about Caldwell, they didn't praise him like they normally do.  To me, that made it seem that he's on his way out one way or another.  They didn't give their typical justification when it came to Caldwell.

looking at the FA WR list

A few names stand out

Nick Boldin Maclin Britt

If Ozzie said what type of receiver he was looking for would you really believe him?

Castillo staying sucks. Heard he's OLine coach. I guess Moeller is out.

Probally would have to work around Ngata,Webb and Rice's contracts.

Would try to extend Suggs and Yanda's contracts.

I, also, think Suggs will be offered an extension, but Oz was adamant, No restructurings. Suggs negotiates an extension or, I believe, he's gone. I don't care what it takes, I think Sammy Watkins is the receiver we need. Yeah, there's a couple of good TEs, and that'd be nice too. But, not as nice as Watkins. It Was very nice to hear that Ozzie And Harbaugh recognize that the current receivers on the roster are not adequate as a group. One more big time threat Is needed. At last! Now, let's see it happen. I totally agree with what Oz said. WR, OL, FS are the needed upgrades. If Suggs goes (likely), pass rush will be a concern again. It disappeared the second half of the season. I totally Disagreed with what Harbaugh said about his coaching staff. Especially his strong endorsement of Castillo. Unbelievable! He actually said that he would be our OL line coach next year! PLEASE, change his mind or over-rule him Steve and Oz. Lose Castillo. Also, hope Caldwell finds another job. If not, lose him too. Well, that's enough for now.

I think they're banking on the o-line woes being a mix of poor play from some personnel, and too many coaches sending a mix of too many messages.

The more I think about it, the more I think we go with Amaro/Ebron in the first. I think they both just tick all the boxes of what Ozzie talked about this morning, and suit what we'll probably try to do next season (more 2TE sets, only with better TEs). And it explains their confidence of those guys being there.

I like that idea. Maybe they can work Juice into that situation. If we need a FB to block. Use a lineman.

Do you guys feel Harbaugh and Ozzie were in unison on a exact WR they want to get or more of a players style? I have seen multiple people debate that.

What do you suppose we do with the receivers who cannot get open? Continue to say "well, maybe next year"?

No, he'll continue to say "We just have to get better." lol

I'd be okay with either Chud or Norv. I actually thought, that Norv did well last season for a guy calling plays without a franchise QB in Cleveland.

I want a new WR. No Nick, Boldin, Maclin or Britt.

More of a style. I don't think they're counting on one specific player being the choice.

The presser made it seem like style but there has to be viable names attached to that.

Why? With our red zone woes, a big time TE like Amaro would be huge especially if we could get him paired with Pitta. Plus, they'll probably need another since Dickson will be FA.

Also, it sounds like Suggs will be good as gone if they can't come to a compromise. Should give us a good amount of room of cap if we let him go.

I would've preferred him to say wide receiver AND tight end. I'm hoping for an upgrade over Dickson, and another playmaking receiver.

Im pretty sure the conv went like this....

We need a sure handed WR who can convert a 1st down with speed to go over the top and not afraid to go over the middle..... we need..... Boldin lol. But truthfully they are looking for a WR with Boldin like Toughness and hands. With speed and route running like D.Mase

Why? I want all our TE's gone Pitta included. Draft Amaro in the first round and get Joe a real weapon to take a little pressure off Torrey since he disappeared hard 2nd half of the season. Plus it would save money

Why on earth would you want Pitta gone?

That's what I'm hoping for. Give them that 3rd and long vertical threat we need (as a key intermediate piece in the scheme) and I think we'll be looking pretty handy.

OK glad to see we agree it was meant on style and not a specific person.

ALso when they said we need more size on the interior maybe we have him in Ryan Jensen. He is 6'3 317 at his pro day. That is a big guy for C. He also was talked about as athletic enough to run the ZBS

What do we think's going to happen to Jacoby? It almost sounds like they might try to keep him and use him situationally as there wasn't really any talk of replacing what he offers, but I think they'd be more than comfortable moving on if necessity dictated.

I have not seen the presser. Did the say ANYTHING about us needing a guy in the end zone?

Not specifically, but I think they like the idea of this 3rd down guy we take doubling as an EZ threat. I could be extending what I heard to what I want to hear though.

Yeah those two things probably go hand in hand.

Lots of positives coming out of this press conference, including having just one offensive line coach. I don't feel as strongly as you guys do regarding Castillo. Our players didn't adapt well to the new scheme; but with a strong Center calling out adjustments and a LG who can communicate that to Monroe, we'll be okay.

However, did they mention the bum that is Jim Hostler? Caldwell needs to be demoted to QB coach and Hostler gone. They are the two responsible for all of the offensive game planning (which was atrociously similar every single week) and play calling.

Not really. My high school coach always said that the little things in football made the biggest difference. Wholesale changes tend to result in becoming as bad as the Browns or Dolphins.

Harbs hinted that he will be gone.

Some times change is good no matter what kind of change it is  and those that are afraid of change may never  reach the level they desire . I always thought that if the ravens wanted to have a  better offense  then they would need better coaches . The main problem with our offense is  that it lacks creativity' and intelligence  but such problems has to start with the coaching staff especially knowing that Jim Caldwell wasn't the only one forming offensive game plans.

I am a little disappointed that Castillo and Hostler will be around for another season with the ravens especially knowing they were the ones involved in creating the mess The ravens had on offense but all of that doesn't matter if they decide to make changes at the offensive coordinator position.

They said they love Hostler. I wouldn't get my hopes up for him leaving.

I think the problems with Castillo are a bit overblown here. As long as he's the clear alpha and everyone answers to him about the o-line, I can live with him getting a promotion of sorts. Just as long as we find someone and stick with them next season!

Well, at least I hope they take his play calling duties away..

Yeah those two things probably go hand in hand.

Not necessarily, but I do know what you mean. A 3rd and long could be a bit more spread out, for example. But I think they want someone who has good hands and a strong body for those contested catches. Which does double up really.
