What kind of WR do you want?

252 posts in this topic

I want the kind that gets open and catches the ball even if it is in triple coverage... that is the kind of WR we need and I want!

We could probably get D'Anthony Thomas much later than the second. Wouldn't mind getting him at value however, he is a good player. Another guy we could get is Oklahoma WR Jalen Saunders if we are looking for a similar player.

Where is both projected to go in the draft? Pre combine of course. And why do like J.S. so much?

De'Anthony Thomas at the moment is a sixth rounder, just about. Unless he absolutely blows people away in interviews, he's down there.

I think Deanthony Thomas and Saunders are both mid to late guys who could be deadly slot guys if they develop right. I think Thomas is slightly better since he runs the ball but Saunders tore Alabama up and I think his quickness could really counter the movement towards longer corners. Saunders is a little lighter but he is a fairly similar guy.

I can easily see Thomas stock rising as we inch closer towards the draft, I remember a crazy stat he had, A TD every 8 touches

Might be stupid, but what about trying to get Blackmon to a cheap contract?  I forgot all about him, but he was playing well before the suspension.  I can't really fault him.  The Jaguars are brown water trash.  Just wondering what people would be thinking about that.

Anyway, Mathews and Evans are the guys I'm hoping we could bring in depending on the moves made.  I honestly hope we stay away from the FA wr pool and just draft our guys and try to groom them with the new coach.  I doubt we are able to get Watkins, unless Ozzie is feeling ballsy this draft and decides to get real aggressive, which I hope he does.  I want a big bodied, strong wr who will go up for the ball, but we'll see what happens.

The reason I feel like the Receiver Ozzie was talking about is not from the draft is because he said the team needs and will have a guy who can make those key 3rd and long catches and get the yards after the catch and, to me, that sounds like he is talking about someone who has proven themselves in the NFL level and not a draft prospect whose NFL ability is still up in the air until the season actually starts. Anyone else agree with this and think we are targeting a receiver in FA or possibly by trade? I was pretty sure he said THE receiver meaning he knew the exact player versus a kind of player. But I'm probably wrong about that part.

I don't think Ozzie

Knows the players name but the type of. I would hope he'd place value on putting at least  3 prospects on the team to compete with the current cast of would be castoff's. They really need to put real pressure on these guys who have shown promise but no real commitment to there craft. You would think they would devote more offseason time with Flacco. In order to sharpen there skills an rap pore. No pain no gain. I'm hoping they use 2 picks early to get it at least half right. Plus a FA. What we've become use to shouldn't be status quo for Kubiak or Bisciotti. If it's truly a fresh start they need to prove it and early. I will go so far as to say Cam may have hamstrung with Ozzie Picks.

Then he's a beast. His stock rose right there, if true.

Thanks and I'll be watching the combine. Please post any others of interest. I'm a draft geek around this time of the year lol.

Honestly the Ravens haven't had a true slot man in recent memory. Did they even have a slot play design. That film eludes me. LOL. All I saw was predictable plays to the predictable players. Kubiak better pound the desk and demand players that fit his schemes. Or scapegoat numero-------------#will exit stage left. When he was right all along. Any other interesting players.

Me. I'm moving up to get Watkins. I ain't got nothing to loose. I need a playmaker. To keep it interesting. At least one.  I'm cutting all scrubs that sit in ice tubes during those games that count. They sell Icy hot outside the stadium as well.  See you sucker would be on his last pay check.

Wow...Thomas is fast. I'm sure the popular comparison for him is Sproles/Woodhead, which looks right. He also reminds me of Chris Johnson with the way he glides when sprinting.

He's got speed, good hands, and is versatile. I'd love for us to take a shot on him. Especially if Jacoby isn't retained.

Mellette, huge fan of him i think he could be just as good as Marlon if not better, also deonte thompson i think dude is pretty good just wasn't able to play much with all the money thown at jacoby..But when he played he made a few plays...so i think that deonte could be our quick fast in the slot guy but watch Mellette as well.

All I have to say is this. D'A + Rice + shotgun = 7

I think pretty much any of the guys that are projected in the first 2-3 rounds would be good fits here.  If we go WR in the first I'm hoping Lee, in the second someone like Matthews, Beckham, Landry, Abbrederis, would all be good fits.  I think the top of the WR class is very deep this year.

Came up with a thought...how about Justin Blackmon, if he is available do you think we wil see a draft day trade ala, Lynch and Randy Moss. Is his suspension lifted?

I don't think the Jags are going to look to trade him - they took him in the top ten just 2 years ago and they have a serious lack of offensive talent on that team - it's been MJD or bust for years now.

I'm on board with taking Jared Abbrederis. I know he's not the sexy WR people crave but he's going to be a star from what I've seen. I think we could get him in the third or fourth round as well due to how deep this class is.

Unless SEA is making a smokescreen (which is quite possible), it appears that as if they're targeting a big WR. If that's the case, looks like we may have to scratch Kelvin Benjamin and Allen Robinson off who's available.

I think Jacksonville is kinda underrated on offensive skill guys. I feel between Blackmon, Cecil Shorts, and M Lewis that they have some talent there. The O-line needs some help and they will need a new running back but this is a league of parody so they can't be THAT far out from contending. They have another year I would say at least but a qb and some O-line help as well as a RB would help them a bit. I mean you can't really show off your skills with Blaine Gabbert throwing you the ball can you? I am not saying they are making the playoffs next year or anything but I do think they are fixable. But hey, it is the offseason where Browns fans have hope of making the playoffs so they probably won't be good for a couple more years at least.

If we draft a 1st round receiver it should be Evans or nobody, someone who can move the chains and open up the field for Torrey.

Yeah that's not Evans.
