What kind of WR do you want?

252 posts in this topic

How about a hard hat, hard hitter that is in the mold of Anquan Boldin? Not just a clutch receiver but one that will block down field to free up some more yards for Joe, Ray, etc.... A blue collar lunch pail type. An I just want to play football type. Just a thought.

Davante Adams is who you're looking for, I mentioned him earlier in the thread with highlight videos. Check him out.

Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandin Cooks are a couple other receivers who would bring something different to the group and should be there in the second round. My rankings:

1. Jordan Matthews

2. Davante Adams

3. Marqise Lee

4. Odell Beckham Jr.

5. Brandin Cooks

Thanks for the info. Exactly what could help our other wideouts. Youth is what we need going forward, nice call!

Boldin did a lot more than grab some spectacular balls.   He was a beast @ blocking assignment.   I'd say he was better than Dickson/Pitta when it came to blocking.

before we get the receiver, give me a OC that can design a play to get him open!

but honestly what I would love more than anything is to get a randall cobb on this team and have them be bff's like joe and pitta and get them on the same page, teams blitz the hell out of us, so get us a playmaking slot receiver like cobb, call that hot route and abuse the blitz. I also would like to see someone who gets open for joe when the play breaks downs and joe has to leave the pocket, don't just continue your route because obviously the play is compromised, run with joe and make it easier on him(see: santonio holmes and big ben)

we just need a sure handed guy that is athletic enough to create separation in traffic, and sit in the soft spots in zone coverage, and stay on the same page as our qb. and when he delivers you a perfect ball, HOLD ON TO IT!

that's what I want in a receiver, we got the burner and a big body receiver(though kinda soft) and a TE that can do similar things to what I named, but that TE isn't as athletic as welker or cobb or Edelman, and that's the mold of a receiver that is missing from this team.

This isn't a "who do you want us to get thread"? Rather a what kind of WR do you think WR should get?

WR is a huge need(duh). But what kind? Some will say possession WR(Boldin esq dude. Matthews, Nicks) Others will say big body WR. (Cooper, Benjamin, Evans, Barden), some will say playmaker(Lee, Watkins, Beckham).

Me? Well what do Manning, Brees, Rodgers, and Brady all have in common.

They have a tough slot WR that will go over the middle and take a hit, but still have the chance to make a big play afterwards.

I think we are missing a little quickie slot WR, and it's obvious Marlon can't be that.

I may have us getting Beckham Jr, but I'm also an advocate for us getting a Hawkins, a Brandin Cooks. A little out WR.

You know it will be that type of thread anyways....right?

Greatest blocking WR I've ever seen, especially when WR's are notorious for not being overly eager to block. Anquan has delivered some vicious blocks over the course of his career (none of us will forget 4th & 23). You can't replace that, the man is a tone setter.

Tbf, I think that's because the "who" and "what" are closely connected.

Yup, I think Adams and Matthews bring more physicality than Lee, who is just a little too finesse for my liking.

For those of you raving about Q's blocking, that's another area where Adams excels. I think he's the best blocking WR in this year's class.

That's a bold opinion. Lee's combination of excellent route running, good hands, and after the catch playmaking ability is special. Adams and Matthews are good receivers in their own ways, but I wouldn't put them anywhere near Lee.

Marlon Brown is really going to turn out to be a great receiver, I think if he can get a little bit bigger (10-15 lbs) he can be like a Vincent Jackson.  We have a great all around receiver in Torrey, M.B will develop into one, Pitta is amazing and Rice is a great outlet.. I want someone like Boldin. Like a 6-1, 220 pounder who will fight for the ball, break tackles, and be a chain gang mover. A player similar to "Q".

Are you kidding? Who wouldn't say that? Those guys might be TEs but they are both terrible blockers and I can name several receivers better than both of them. I agree that I want a strong physical possession receiver who can block well but if Jacoby leaves I can see Ozzie going to Marquise Lee.

I'd lean towards the explosive, playmaking type. Watkins would be ideal, but I would be quite happy with Lee or Beckham too.

Marquis Lee has first round bust written all over him. He looks like a slower version of Mark Clayton to me.

Lol. No. Take it to the draft forum if you want me to explain why you are wrong.

We need a #2 who could be used as Torrey's doppelganger, both in speed and reliability. A threat that can take a small gain to the house and make the D back up, opening our TE's and Rice to make more plays - Someone like:

In the slot, I totally agree, Edlemen, Welker, Amendola, all these guys are quick, fast WRs that may not burn you down the field 100% of the time but excel in getting separation with their quickness, being a huge benefit on first downs. We need someone with the skills like:

Both these types of players can play all over the field, both in the slot and outside, maybe even the backfield on some plays. This is not saying we should get these guys but get some picks like them. They have a ton of versatility, something The ravens and OZ love in a player.

Brandin Cook would be our guy. I think the Ravens would target him IF he drops in draft stock.

What round he set to go in at the moment? I heard a coupe sites had Carolina getting him to replace Smith down the road?

I think he is the 7th rated WR - however that falls. I see value in the third round.

I want an Anquan Boldin like receiver with a lot more speed for separation .

Is there one like that in the draft?

One of these decades we will get a stud receiver.

My choices in no particular order Josh Huff Oregon (bigger version of Welker?), Kevin Norwood Alabama (McCaron's go to guy when he needed it), Sammy Watkins Clemson (no way he falls to us), Marqise Lee USC (do it all receiver), Odell Beckham LSU (can also help in ST), Jordan Matthews Vanderbilt (reminds me of Keenan Allen)

I think grabbing Cyrus from bama @1st round and grabbing Jordan Matthews @ 2nd might be doable.

Cyrus plays DB, while Christion Jones plays WR (special teams stud)
