RB coach Wilbert Montgomery leaving

82 posts in this topic

Maybe he left because he was #3 on the RB coaching board.

I doubt if he had a role, definitely he had no input.

Agree.  Maybe he's had his fill after Cam and now with Castillo probably sticking around, and he's seen where this is leading and he's just fed up and hopefully going where there's reason and sanity involved in things.

We could run the ball with Montgomery for years and then Castillo comes in 1 season and we can't run the ball worth a damn for an entire season. And Montgomery is leaving? Wow! It may be his decision to leave but Castillo needs to be FIRED!! Smh!

Not sure how I feel about this. Our running backs have always been good, even before Montgomery was here. I think our success with running backs has more to do with Ozzie's drafting ability when it comes to running backs and (usually) linemen.

Something to think about, have Rice and Pierce really improved? I don't think they've really improved much, and that goes on the coaches. Rice was good in his rookie year and in his second year. He didn't really get better, he just got fed the ball more. Pierce has regressed since his first year.

Two things have plagued our running backs for the past six years: Poor vision and an inability to recognize and pick up blitzes. That's coaching to me.

When I first heard this I was a bit confused. I thought maybe it was a scapegoat thing, but then I thought this was a sign of things to come: letting guys go so a new OC can bring his own guys on. So far, not sure if either is true. The FO seems to be taking their time with this offseason as they seem to do every offseason.

I saw an article saying that Montgomery was the man who basically benched rice in the first half against the Bengals game. To the surprise and dismay of Harbaugh. Maybe that is what lead him to leaving. But it also weird that a RB coach is making gameplan decisions that the HC doesn't know about

When someone is "let go" out of the blue, there's usually something going on that we don't know about. I doubt that he's a scapegoat.

BOOM! This is exactly what happened. Why stay and be called the RB coach when you aren't allowed to coach. The run game coordinator was calling the shots. See this kind of thing happen all the time in the military. I'd bet my life that's what happened

Good point.  They seem to drag their feet and other teams hire the best coaches available while we apparently sit and watch and see who, once again, we can hire on the cheap.  I don't want to go this far, but jarring loose with a little more money ala Jerry Jones to get some top coaching talent would probably payoff  more in the long run.  Just my opinion.

Montgomery was a good coach, but this won't hurt us. I don't recall a loss of a running back coach derailing an offense. But there needs to be a pan for thks teams staff..

I'd leave too if the Head Coach threw me under the us like Harbaugh did. For the head coach to say he had no idea why Ray Rice wasn't in the Cincy game more is a sad commentary. First, Ray Rice should be in the game as long as he's productive and he wasn't. Secondly, any Head Coach worth his salt would discuss the gameplan with the offensive coordinator before the game and if he didn't like the plan, he could change it. If the game dictated a change, the HC should be aware of that too. Thanks, Wilbert, for your contribution to the Ravens success. C'mon Coach! Man up!

what if we bring munchik and chizduzki, for OL coach and OC spots, and ax castillo, caldwell gets the lions job. that ZBS is terrible b/c i saw the phillly game, and its bad, b/c  the the Defensive players r all ready n backfield, crushing your RB before he can get to the LOS.

Source: Bernard Pierce likely to undergo shoulder surgery: http://www. baltimoresun.com/bal-source-ravens-running-back-bernard-pierce-likely-to-undergo-shoulder-surgery-20140107,0,6486736.story

Hate to see Montgomery go now, with all of Rice's trial and tribulations this season and now this with Pierce, looks like we will now need another RB.  Pierce's injuries appear to be mounting according to the article.

This.  WM is a very good coach and will be employed soon; in probably a better situation.  On the other hand, if this badly coached team doesn't improve next year they'll all be looking for employment.
