Several teams cannot sellout playoff games

30 posts in this topic

So is Green Bay, they also are struggling to sell playoff tickets.

Funny since the Panthers sold out in 3 minutes and the Seahawks sold out in 11 minutes.

Wow that's surprising that GB is struggling

Can't believe it's even an issue in the playoffs

I'm sorry, how is it possible for a team NOT to sellout a stadium during the playoffs? I know what the "obvious" answer is; but, are you going to tell me a team like the Bengals, who sold-out all of their regular season home games (I believe), don't have all their fans excited for the postseason?

It's funny; even with the struggles by the Ravens and Steelers, this year, and the Bengals having a relatively easy road to the playoffs (including winning the division by 3 games), their fans are apparently not too interested for this game. Why, though? The team was 8-0 at home, the odds are in their favor to win their first playoff game in decades and they will be facing a Chargers team that they beat in San Diego about a month ago. Once again, what else is needed to fill their stadium?

Oh, well; the Chargers will be pulling-off the upset, anyways...

That's REALLY surprising! The Packers easily have one of the best fanbases in the NFL and the wait for their season ticket program is currently at 995 years (Yeah, you read that right.). I guess it has something to do with the fact that their fans weren't too optimistic about making the playoffs after the Pittsburgh loss...

I'm guessing it's going to be freezing in Green Bay. Or they could just be mad about Aaron Rodgers situation? ;)

Unless something dramatically changed since this morning, the KC at Indy game is also on the verge of being blacked out: http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-nfl-blackouts-20140102,0,2406551.story#axzz2pHGuSZzW

Kind of crazy that we are hearing about this happening for 3 of the 4 games.  I'm wondering if it's a combo of prices and weather, but also because folks are more interested in seeing Seattle, Denver, and New England next week.

The Packers got an extension to sell the remaining had 3,000 tickets. The Bengals received an extension to sell more tickets.

That's pretty pathetic, especially with the Bengals. 8-0 at home, won the division, # 3 seed and had a legit shot at a BYE week. Yet nobody wants to go support the team in the playoffs. This could be the only home game for the Bengals in the playoffs and nobody wants to buy tickets for it.

Packers... I'm totally confused. They got Rodgers back and I thought everyone in GB would be going with Rodgers returning. Crazy, but again while the game day experience is something every fan should experience, guess this shows the fans would much rather sit in their comfy heated homes watching the game on their big screen TV.

I'm hearing it's the weather.  It'll definitely be below zero, and I've seen predictions of down to -30 degrees Fahrenheit.  That's really really really cold.  The Packers have a loyal fanbase, but that could be a bit much.

Attending a game in person is so ungodly expensive and i hear it more and more often, the beer (or soda,

whatever your drinking),food, etc are right on hand and cheaper when home. No wait for the bathroom, no

getting punched or fighting, no $25 parking crap, temperature is always around 70 degrees in my house. I

have attended one game at M & T Bank and a couple at Arrowhead.

I don't like the stadium experience anymore. I like the experience at my house or with my friends at their house. I don't know how to explain it but the stadium just isn't the same anymore.

I would wade through freezing water to go to a playoff game. I agree the experience is different than home and certainly very expensive. I guess I am willing to splurge for a one time event like that. Whats money for anyway?

Reasons I hope they lose, #352....

Actually, it would be pretty funny if the game got blacked out. Most of their fans missing the chance to watch their team make franchise history.

It upsets me in a way to see a whole load of empty seats though. There are so many fans around the world who'd give up the naming rights to their first child just to see their team live. I feel like people who live in the area don't really know the opportunity they have.

If youre a Bengals fan you don't want to pay to see your team exit, you're just happy they came first in the AFC N and made the playoffs.

The cold is not an issue.

For a playoff game, I agree. I guess I should've prefaced. My bad. I'm talking regular season games. I like to go to be apart of the fan aspect. You know. The twelfth man. But outside of that it's somewhat lost its luster.

Playoffs are a different story though.

Yeah exactly, well fortunately I bet against the bengals this week and it would be pretty sweet to win my bet due to average crowd support

I want to go to the superbowl just one time esp if the ravens get back to it . its sad that the bengals can't sell out . the ravens and steelers fans would snap the tickets up in a couple minutes if either team was in it  .

No blackout in GB.

Yeah because a group of corporate partners bought out the remaining tickets to ensure no blackout.

The Colts have also prevented a blackout thanks to a corporate sponsor buying out tickets.

It's one thing for the regular season, but to have to buy tickets to prevent a blackout in playoff games, pretty pathetic. Sounds GB and Indy have band wagon fans.

I talked with my Packers fan friend (who is actually in Wisconsin) and was told the problem was two-fold. When the ticket offer first went out to the season ticket holders, Rodgers was still out and no one really expected to make the playoffs. When they went on sale to the public, the weather forecast was frightful.

A lot of Packer fans travel up to 3 hours to get to the game and I strongly believe weather had a big factor to it plus where are the 9er fans.

I believe the Bengals blackout is still up in the air. Not sure.

And, finally, the Cincinnati-headquartered company, Procter & Gamble (makers of Gillette and Tide), has stepped-up and bought the remaining unsold tickets for the Chargers/Bengals game. Makes sense, since P&G are a NFL sponsor.

Also, the last blacked-out playoff game was for the Miami Dolphins in 2001-02, when they played some team called the Baltimore Ravens...

EDIT: T3hRaven with the save!

It's Proctor & Gamble I believe. Regardless, is this another weather issue or are they protesting against their terrible owner?

Yeah, I made a mistake (and it's actually "Procter", too).

As for the reason, I like to think it's because of the snow and cold. Otherwise, Mike Brown-or-not, Cincy has made the playoffs 3 years-in-a-row, something's working, they're 8-0 at home and, yet, their fans are still "protesting". The latter makes their fanbase really, really spoiled, despite years of lackluster and poor results...
