Jay Cutler signs 7-year extension with Bears

Didn't see this anywhere, so I thought I'd make a topic on it - Cutler signed a 7 year extension for 126 million - that's averaging 18 million a year - with 54 million guaranteed.  Just a reminder, Joe's contract was 6 years, 120.6 million, 52 million guaranteed - so yes Cutler has one more year, but with the extra dough I'd call the contracts about even.  Now I'm not sure about the cap breakdown, but just to point out here, this is going to be Cutler's 9th year in the league, and he's only eclipsed 4000 yards once.  He's also only thrown for 25+ TDs twice, and never hit thirty.  So all in all, I'd say his numbers, QBR, completion percentage, are all equivalent or slightly worse than Joe's, in spite of throwing to guys like Brandon Marshall.  And Cutler has only reached the postseason once before this year.  I'm not trying to hate on Cutler, just like to point out that for all everyone says Joe got overpaid, the fact is his contract wasn't a gross overpayment based on previous contracts, but needs to be viewed as setting the standard for all future quarterback contracts.

I'm not surprised Sam Bradford is set to make more then flacco this coming year. Ryan makes more then flacco  and one playoff game and look at the weapons he has, some of the best weapons in the league  and ravens fans complain,,unreal

The Bradford deal is because of his draft status pre cba set contract slotting, definetly not due to his play

I think the Bears found themselves in a situation similar to us. They're in "win now" mode, don't have the time to develop a franchise QB, realise those things don't grow on trees and would rather use their first rounders on other stuff. You either pay Cutler what he wants, or he walks to another team that WILL pay him and you have to start all over again.

Give it five to 10 years and Joe's contract will only be middle of the road. What I'm looking forward to (in a shamelessly sadistic way) is seeing the 2012 class's contracts expire and seeing what THEY get paid.
