Expectations for Joe Flacco in the offseason

134 posts in this topic

For me, I can answer your 2nd question with just one word - - Yes!

I think Luck will be a force in the NFL for years to come.  He has great potential and a huge upside.  Luck and Wilson are both two solid second year quarterbacks with bright futures ahead.   In terms of Flacco, I would rather have him than a Dalton, Weeden, Gabbert, Smith, Sanchez etc....

 omg lol smh

I think the best we can hope from joe is the 2010 season. That playoff run was a fluke. He is what he is. just build a team around him with no cap and we might be able to make him look above average and win games the old fashioned ravens way

Since 09, Flacco has been consistently good-great in the playoffs. It isn't even arguable.

1. Brady did not light the colts up, the running game lit the colts up because they had a solid, dependable line, which we don't have.

2. Luck had four interceptions in the biggest game of his career, albeit the last one was him trying to make a play late in the game, nonetheless he had four. He will be a great NFL QB, but I would still take Flacco because of the poise he has in big games, which is something you cannot teach.

I agree but I think Luck has that.

I mean, Joe wasn't Big-time or anywhere close to this in his 2nd year. I'd be happy with either QB.

in 2011 he was great vs the patriots and we should have won..vs the texans in the previous round he was crap.

His 2012 post season will never be matched. The stars alligned. In 2010 he was good. In 2009 and 2008 he was meh..more ray rice than anything.

So now you guys would take Flacco over Luck, lol? OMG, only on a Baltimore Raven forum would people rather have Flacco over Brady, Manning, Luck, etc......

You guys talk about Flacco having a poor offensive line with no run game and weapons around him. Luck has it worse than Flacco in that regards with the team he took field with the other day. Hilton and that's about it. Fleener is overrated, Richardson is overrated and Brown is alright. Im not going to even mention the other WRs besides Hilton, who are those guys? Man for Man on offense, I would hardly take any of those players over what we have, offensive line included. Only person worth taking is Hilton.

He's been solid more so with sprinkling good in there at times with one moment of greatness which was last season. Can you pull up Joe stats in all his playoff games?

I don't not want Luck for that. He's a future top ten guy, maybe top ten today. I acknowledge his lack of weapons. I dislike Luck because he stares down receivers and doesn't read good defenses very well.

However, I will also say that he can improve there, as Flacco has.

I don't feel like doing the research right now, but since 09 it's considerably more TDs than picks, lot of yards, solid completion percentage. Oh, and his records pretty good too.

More arguing about Flacco? He's not even playing this month. How come other quarterbacks playing means Flacco has to come under scrutiny again? Leave it til next season at least! 2013 Joe doesn't exist anymore.

So Joe doesn't share these same qualities?

Not arguing about Joe..... everyone mind is made up at this point on how they feel about Joe. Just simply countering post in a thread that says " Expectations for Joe Flacco in the off season ". Yes, every thread comes with scrunity, that's part of any thread. Every thread that's made on this site, scrutiny is part of it.

Not as bad as Luck anymore. I don't think he stares guys down anymore, but he does need some more work reading defenses. That's still an area that's hard to tell. Is he having a trouble reading the defense? Or are the receivers just not open?

Doesn't really matter though. Haven't we debated enough about this?

Use the eye test...luck is a better qb than flacco. The colts team roster wise is actualy worse than ours too.

Common sense has to factor in at some point and even override homer-ism.Luck supporting cast sucks big time

Agreed.

I love Flacco and hope for him (year to year) to shake off all the doubters. But at the same time, you just watch other QBs (mind you not more than 10 or so fit this bill) and you just see that they do certain things better than Joe, and the way play.

But hey, it seems that any criticism (no matter how balanced) is seen as hating...

I use the eye test and all can think of how better Flacco is than Luck but also be saying to myself wow I wish Flacco receivers could open like Lucks does.

Im not making any excuses for Flacco but the offense he's been playing in Is so beyond quarterback friendly and I think he is the only quarterback in the league right now that has a offensive coordinator or overall coaching staff that have no clue  on how to use the talent they surround him with in way that they consistently succeed..

Work on quick releases, and crossing routes

This.  Besides last year during the run, it doesn't seem Flacco gets the ball out quickly.  He seems gun shy at times for whatever reason, even if the guy is open.  Guys aren't always going to be running wide open.  He needs to work on timing with guys not named Pitta.

Put your glasses on! Lol, I kid, I kid.

Common sense says Joe and Luck both had bad supporting casts, but one played in a terribad division and the other played in a division with three solid defenses. Dropping it there though ;)

You need to go to other forums b/c every losing team believes their offensive coordinator and coach staff is clueless. Go to the Jets, Cowboys, Texans..... and several other forums of other teams and you will see a lot of fans feel that same way.

Heck, I even talked to a Denver fan who thought their OC is an idiot. :D

This right here. Even the audibles seemed to go right into the teeth of the D. WRs not getting open was a problem also but hey let's keep the WR coach. Even last year Boldin had trouble getting open.
