Expectations for Joe Flacco in the offseason

134 posts in this topic

Look guys, our franchise QB had little help on offense. However, some of our offensive woes falls squarely on Flacco's shoulders. I couldn't stand to watch him get beat up ALL YEAR LONG! Not only do I hope the offensive line gets addressed (tremendously, I might add) but I hope this rough season makes Flacco better by doing everything possible to make himself better. What do you guys expect Flacco to do in the offseason to work towards being a top-10 QB once again?

I love Joe Flacco, he is a great quarterback just because he had one bad year doesn't mean anything. He's not the only one to blame for not winning. There were alot of injuries but there's always next year.

Flacco's salary starts to grow next season and so do the expectations. Joe is hard working dude, I'm sure he does what ever he can to get better.

He needs to continue to train to get better at throwing the ball, and heal his knee injury. Once the offensive line gets better he will have more time to do well. He should train hard to improve his game because no matter how good you are, you can always improve.

- Learn to read the different coverage's defenses employ

- Work of accuracy

- Eliminate / Reduce turnovers

- Study game film in order to break down teams' strengths and weaknesses, picking up trends and discussing with coaches what might work and what won't in upcoming games.

Good point, I like to see the ball out of Flacco’s hands in 1.5 seconds, that does not mean holding the ball until 2.5, waiting for someone to get open.

Fix the OL

He should work on his pass protection

You know, its not taboo to talk about a deficiency or two that the man has. Its not ALL due to others play ;)

You're thinking of the West Coast offense.

In the Air Coryell, the QB usually looks at his deep read first, and that WR is going to take more than 1.5 seconds to get downfield if he doesn't get a free release (our WRs often get held up at the line for around 1.5 seconds or more).

But Joe does have a tendency to hold on to the ball about a half second longer than he should; he does need to realize a bit quicker that if the play's not there, just throw it away. Thing is, he was doing that his first 3 years here; since then though that seems to have been coached out of him because he does stand in there until the end waiting for WRs to come open even with pressure all around him.

Get his shoulder healed up. I swear his throwing motion hasn't looked normal for weeks.

Didn't he just hurt it against Cincy or was it before?

As much he was hit this year I wouldn't doubt that there were numerous nicks that no one knew about,  He's a big, durable dude, but the body can take only so much punishment.

They mentioned it as a new injury in Cincy, but that doesn't mean it wasn't hurt before, like that bruise on his thigh a few years back that no one knew about.

As for expectations, I agree with others. I'd like to see him work on getting the ball out a bit faster and work on reading defenses. If Caldwell sticks around and starts installing those Moore/Indy plays, he'll need to get better at both.

I think he needs to be a drama queen like certain other AFCN QBs when it comes to injuries, that way there is no confusion as to when he was hurt and to what extent.

Other than that, his to do list must include a lot of off-season work with Torrey and Marlon, and ensuring that everyone is on the same page.
In addition, work on making his reads faster, and continue improving his mobility in the pocket.
