Caldwell is now the HC of the Lions.......like I said before John will make our WRer coach the OC, we will never see a good change in our Offense....

He is not the Head Coach until the Lions announce it.

Any system can be modified to incorporate different elements which is why I can't understand why our offense is so dull. This is the reason I would like to have Caldwell back because I believe we saw some of his vision early in the season for what he wanted this offense to look like. But injuries and the loss of a true short to intermediate weapon hurt us all year. I think Caldwell was slowly changing the system to something he was more comfortable designing and calling, but injuries and lack of chemistry kind of force him to go back to what was familiar with the players imo.

I've said this many times and this is exactly why I feel keeping Castillo is a really smart move despite the results of last season. At the end of the day there was just far too much change for a offense that lost 3 huge pieces in Birk, Boldin and Pitta. From a leadership stand point if Birk was here to help the other oline with the blocking changes I think it would have went smoother and if either Boldin or Pitta was here to be that consistent chain mover inside I think the passing game would have continued to changes we saw early in the season.

I think if you question the timing of the hire you ultimately say it was the right time honestly. I've said many times before that despite the fact that we didn't want to view it this way, 2013 was a rebuilding year for the Baltimore Ravens and mainly the offense. You can't make the transition from a run first defensive team to a explosive passing team and good defense and not expect any growing pains. So if you were gonna make those type changes I think this was the season to do it.

I was just being nice! Actually, the scheme change didn't need to take place at all. That's was an example of fixing what isn't broken. In this case, tampering resulted in a system-wide malfunction.

If Caldwell get the Lions coaching job and we put Hostler or Castillo in at OC,I will
officially be one of the first pleading for Bisciotti to can Harbaugh if next season is poor.

I don't like to overreact but I'll be right there with you.

My complaint was bringing in a new blocking scheme to a first year (ever) OC that showed tremendous success in the previous season as acting coordinator. It leaves little doubt as to why play calling may have been so limited by number and type, not only for the players but the OC as well.

Castillo may be good at what he does but the timing of change didn't blend well with the team situation. Timing, chemistry and balance were thrown out of whack and so one has to question the timing of the hire that made not only the OC look bad but the OL, QB, RBs and Wrs quality look less than they are.

Relationships mean a lot, and Harbaugh screwed this up royally.  Throwing Castillo in with Moeller...giving Hostler input to game planning...the O-line had some putrid players, but were also getting direction from a few different sources.  Harbaugh should have done the right thing by Moeller, and the players by letting him go.  As far as I am concerned Hostler should have no association with the organization period given he sucked like Hoover in SF for multiple seasons.

But it was broken. Lets not kid ourselves into thinking that this oline was at any point great. Our success in the playoffs came from the movement of KO to the inside thus making our interior line really good. Putting everything into perspective, the switch to a permanent ZBS has been in the works for at least the last 2 year(11-12) and when Castillo became available the Ravens and many others for that matter, though Castillo was the right guy to teach the ZBS.

No Tampering didn't result in that system-wide malfunction that's just the most common scapegoat. Injuries and having to rely on less talented players resulted in a system-wide malfunction. The Ravens were just unfortunate in the fact that the change took place the same year that we had massive injuries and loss on the offensive side of the ball.

If the blocking scheme had stayed the exact same from last year, the Ravens still would have been smart to try and upgrade the LT position long term, which they did. KO would have still gotten hurt unless you can 100% say that Castillo caused the injury. Thus A.Q would have still been an ineffective LG, Gino would have still struggled with more powerful DT but showed nice moments throughout the season, who knows just how much Yanda's injuries affected him, but he probably would have played much better and Oher imo was the same Oher we always see. The system didn't cause him to have an uneven season, he always has an uneven season.

We'll still have the same player personnel that failed us miserably this year...ugh!

most of those guys are the same ones that helped us win the Super Bowl, so what exactly is the point?

That's pretty severe.  What if no OCs want to come here?  Are you going to get desperate?

And free agency! :lol3:

All that drinking we did while watching the offense during the season put us in an 8 month long stupor.

Lol you beat me by a second.

Congrats to Jim! Part of me wants to tell Lions fans to calm down because something tells me they're not happy about that. They need discipline badly. Jim is perfect, and he'll help Stafford's mechanics big time.

I think Kubiak is my first pick to replace him, unless we decide to grab some assistants from New Orleans, Green Bay, or New England.

Assumed you'd understand the point. It wasn't really coded or anything. Our offensive failures were epic and were on the PLAYERS, not the coach.

I know it's unlikely but really hoping we can retain Teryl Austin in some capacity.  He's rumoured to be going with Caldwell as the next DC but maybe Steve and Ozzie can work their magic and pull some DeCosta type magic to retain him and pay him like a DC.

Yeah baby. He did a great job in our postseason run and I'll forever be grateful for that. I wish him the best.

Before the start of this season I thought he would get a HC gig. Midway through I thought we'd be stuck with him. I'm surprised but also relieved. Although it wasn't all his fault for our struggles he was still a part of them. I want a new play book, system, language -- everything! lol

Hopefully we hire a new young guy. I would not be pleased if we promoted someone from within. I'd also like a QB coach again.

Welp, three questions now.

1. Who does he take with him?

2. How do we fill those vacancies?

3. Who replaces him?

One of the home page articles mentioned he'll likely take Teryl Austin, which sucks.

It was the players and the coach. Our offensive was pretty predictable thats not a players fault but coach fault in the end and they did have issues with lack of execution of plays which is a player problem. I the the coaching problem was alot bigger thean the player problem if you ask me

Ravens can easily say no to any team that wants to interview Austiin

Not if they interview him for the DC position, I think.

That does suck. He might be the best DB coach in the league right now. Webb, Jimmy, and Corey Graham developed a TON under his guidance.
