Ravens 2014 Opponents

64 posts in this topic

Look... it's silly to say "this is an easy or hard schedule."

But I think the bigger point, and probablt the OP's main purpose was pointing out this:

The Ravens avoid seeing Manning and Brady in the regular season.  This means they don't get a live look and 4 quarters to jot down the Ravens defensive calls and tendencies to use against them in a possible playoff rematch.

Sure, there's film.  But it's not the same.  And if nothing else.... it might save some face and avoid the Ravens(and fans) being gut-punched in the middle of the season.

The main thing is win the division.  And to do that, they have to figure out how to beat the Bengals and Steelers.  And when you play the Browns starting Jason Campbell.... you DOMINATE THEM, you don't fool around.  Harbaugh needs to get his act together very quickly.  Following down the same road of Brian Billick where he's more concerned about trying to be short/sarcastic/snyde to the media and fans.... instead of being the best coach he can be.

Kinda the thought......

I think this schedule affords a much better opportunity to win the division, win more games and get a higher seeding for the tournament, ergo more home games.

Now the hard part; Make the off season moves to improve the O line and running game.

I'm an optimist. I'll take Brees, Ryan, Newton and Luck over Manning, Brady and Rodgers any day. We managed .500 season with virtually no running game - we cannot possibly have another season like that, can we? 11-5 should be attainable.

Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what his approach is

Finishing third in the division has its perks. And we finally get the chargers in Bmore!

Of course there's no way of knowing exactly how any of these teams will perform in 2014, but this looks much more manageable to me than this year.

HOME: Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, San Diego Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

AWAY: Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Right now, for non-division, we have 3 possibly hard games at home (falcons, panthers, and chargers), while we have 4 possibly hard games away (texans, colts, saints, dolphins). The harder teams on the road makes it harder because the ravens lose more games on the road.

I want to see the Ravens play the falcons and beat them because of that disappointing loss to them 2 or 3 years ago on Thursday night football. The saints game will be fun because it is a challenge. I think the schedule is a little harder than average. Every team can be much different than last year though, so you can't be sure about what will happen in each season.

I definitely think Harbs is on the right track on something he called, namely going for it on 4th down.  Maybe that's what we'll be doing next year, and not even use a roster spot for a punter, heck, we could get plenty of crummy draft choices by trading Tucker!

As poorly as we played at times in finishing 8-8, we went 6-2 at home. Four of our losses were to playoff teams and four of our losses were to four of the top five QBs in the NFL arguably, including Brady, Manning, Rodgers and Rothlisberger. Interestingly, all but one of my top five QBs made the playoffs and the fifth would have if the referees hadn't blown the FG infraction by San Diego. On the flip side, we beat only one playoff team --- Cincy. So, our record against 2013 playoff teams was 1-5. Next year, we play six games against this year's playoff teams. That's worth at best a split. Matching this season's home record of 6-2 is doable but the road schedule is tough to predict. A 5-3 road record is possible but so is a 3-5 record. Therefore, the BCS is 11-5 & the WCS is 9-7 so I'll go with 10-6 as the most likely scenario at this time and, hopefully, that will get us back to the playoffs. This is, of course, based on the status quo and I will confirm my prediction before the regular season starts and after Michael Irvin makes his prediction for us. With some coaching changes, creative contract re-structuring, a good draft and one or two top-notch free agency acquisitions, the sky's the limit. Why not? DISCLAIMER: With an off-season like the one we just had with the status quo, we will be closer to Michael's prediction of 5-11 for this year's team but I'm cautiously optimistic that the "man behind the curtain" really is "The Wizard of Oz" and not John Harbaugh.

If we can get 3 home wins within the first 6 games of the season (very do-able especially with teams travelling fron the west and south) I agreed based on 2014 opponents 11-5 is right on point.

In my view, the Ravens still have that 'OMG...here they come again!' with teams in the league. When we have a convincing fast start (4-2 or 5-1) we seem to have a mental intimiation factor throughout the rest of the season. We don't nessessarily have to dominate anybody early - just win the majority of our games and watch the difference in confidence that we'll show throughout the rest of the season.

Can't wait for the actual schedule to be released. No chance of travelling to Mile High the 1st game of the season...priceless.

I was really stumped on the falcons one. They are supposed to be good but were they not this season because of tons of injuries? I didnt know what decide, I thought they were pretty good last year.

The NFC South is a weird division. Nobody has ever repeated as champion in division history and the team from the bottom usally wins the division the following year. The Falcons and Bucs will most likely bounce back to the top of the pack again and the Saints and Carolina will end the season at the bottom of the pack if history repeats itself.

That being said, although the Falcons have a great team when they're gel-in they are very beatable by a dominating defense and effective running team. In my view, the Ravens will be this kind of team again in 2014.

We will not loose to the Chargers.  I am going to that game and the Ravens are 32-3 on games I attend.

First... being in Florida I'm happy I will get a chance to see em live twice.

I agree with almost everything you say.  Going further with the DOMINATE them theme, I'm sick of this team not winning how they should.  I know every team is paid, but there have been Ravens teams that should easily dismantle their competition and it seems like they phone in games sometimes.  Instead of just trying to win the division, why not aiming a little higher like the #1.  It would be nice for the road through the playoffs to go through Baltimore again(I know, 2nd seed in 06).

Kinda tough to predict when you don't know what additions and subtractions to other teams or our own. I'm going big , 5 losses return to the superbowl. Joe passes for over 4500 yards  and has less then ten interceptions.

That's true.  Even if squads didn't change there is no way of knowing how teams will perform year to year. But, I like your prediction! I'm even a bit more optimistic, thinking we get back to defending The Bank, going undefeated at home and lose only 3 on the road.  13 - 3.

No manning or Patriots i like!

That's the first thing I noticed. If we don't meet one of them in the 2014 playoffs, it'll be the first season since 2003 without playing Manning or Brady. You want to play the best, of course, but this'll be nice for a change.
