Stupid move by Whisenhunt.  Detroit is ready to go, Tennessee is not.  This shows a clear lack of confidence in Matt Stafford from him.

Interesting. Someone will take it obviously, but you don't often see hesitance like this when it comes to getting a NFL coaching job.

More hesitance from another coach. Cardinals DC Todd Bowels has withdrawn from consideration for the Browns Head Coaching job per Schefter.

Cardinals DC Todd Bowles has withdrawn from consideration for Browns HC job, per source.

Also Schefter reports the Browns have granted permission to DC Ray Horton to interview with other teams for any position.

I disagree. Whisenhunt was offered more money, might prefer living in Tennessee rather than Detriot, could have more team control with Titans regarding draft and FA, could also see Titans being only a few pieces away in a underwhelming division.

Personally I think he just followed the money though.

Has anyone actually interviewed with the Browns?

I thought McDaniels interviewed and then withdrew himself from consideration.  Not sure though.  It is interesting to see that there are NFL head coaching gigs that people are hesitant to take.  They didn't do right by Chud, and that organization is a mess right now with the scandal involving their owner.  Sad, they seemed to be trending upwards, but I guess the Browns will always be the Browns.

Maybe it's as simple as Detroit is going to roll with Stafford while Tennessee can't be completely sold on Locker - maybe Whisenhunt wants the opportunity to draft and develop his own quarterback.

They are waiting to interview OC Adam Gase from Denver.

Thank you Minnesota for getting Zimmer out of the division. I think he's a great coach and this opportunity is long overdue.

Schefter says he might be trying to bring in Norv as his OC. Our FO needs to lock down our OC if that's who they want.

i'd like to see Zorn return to Baltimore

I dunno. Fans from every other team he's coached with (Skins fans in particular) seem to hate him. Maybe 2010 was just a good year for him.

He's a Rex Ryan disciple on defense, I believe. But they're quickly heading into desperation territory on their coaching search. I don't think he's proven enough yet to merit the position, but then again neither did Chudzinski.

Yep, he was on the Ravens defensive staff starting in 2002 and moved with Rex to NY to become the DC.  I think he is a very good DC, but I'm not sure about a head coach.  He would be a great fit with their defense though.

The Browns are going to interview the Cowboys special teams coordinator for HC.

Maybe I should submit my resume to them.  They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Maybe they're just jealous that our former Special Teams Coordinator now has a Super Bowl ring.

I wonder what the latest time in the offseason is for a team appointing a HC.

I think the Browns are just killing time until they can interview Gase, Quinn and Bevell.

It'd be great if those guys removed themselves from consideration too.

Yeah. What are the chances of a special teams coach succeeding as HC?

My point wasn't that ST coaches can't succeed, my point was there's no indication that he's the exemplary ST coach.  I don't think the Cowboys ST were all that impressive, and if you're coming from a least important phase of the game you should probably be one of the best at what you do.  If memory serves, Harbaugh was.

I'm not sure I agree that Special Teams is less important than the other phases. Many, many games are won and lost on ST play.

I also think ST Coordinators have the toughest jobs. They have an ever shifting group of "leftover" players to work with. They often don't know until 90 minutes before gametime who will even be active. Half their players are rookies/second year players who never played ST in college because they were "too important". Anyone who can coach up that rag-tag group and make them functional has to have some pretty serious coaching skills.

Good points and I agree. Never really gave them that much thought. I wonder why more aren't interviewed?
