Bad news for the Browns, Josh McDaniels has withdrawn himself from the coaching search.

From Schefter's FB Page:

One person who knows Josh McDaniels said he had “an awesome” meeting with Browns, but it isn’t right time for him to become a head coach.

So much for their Plan A. They fired Chud thinking they would easily get McDaniels and it back fired.

McDaniels is smarter than he looks.

Over Harb's dead body.

Very true, he knows there is a good chance he can interview for the job next season after the Browns fire the coach they will hire this season.

Maybe he's waiting for a better opportunity, or maybe he doesn't believe in Manziel.  Heck, maybe he wants to take over the Pats when Belichick retires.

Or when someone eventually sticks a stake through his heart.

Caldwell to the browns with the caveat if he takes Austin Hostler has to go too. see if Mcdainels wants to try Offense coordinator before he makes the leap to head coach.

Man now Hue Jackson is gonna be their OC. Lucky lucky Bengals.

Per the Bengals Forum - evidently Jackson enjoys calling deep passing plays.  Dalton is going to have a field day with that next year.

And by field day I mean throwing even more interceptions.

Also - looks like they will be losing Zimmer to Minnesota.

A majority of the posters on the Bengals forum appear to be happy about this news.  I can't for the life of my understand.  The offense has excelled to a record-setting team with Gruden, and their defense hasn't been doing poorly either.

Gruden I can understand, but Zimmer is a genius. I'd take him over any of the currently unemployed coordinators out there.

Have to say though, it was long over due for Zimmer to be a Head Coach.

On the other side, Cincy will lose both their coordinators so that's a good thing.

I think it's this. McDaniels is practically Belichick junior. People seem to forget that he helped build the current roster in Denver. If he had another year or two, they would have been contending. McDaniels is a great offensive mind. Once he learns more about defense from BB he'll be a great HC one day, and probably for the Patriots.

I wonder if McDaniels might slide into the HC position and BB has his role reduced to just GM.

Oh, now that Gruden's gone, Cincy is one coordinator away from being irrelevant again. I know that's bold but I don't know if Cincy fans realize how much Gruden did to enhance Dalton's game.

Poor Gruden, I bet he'll be fired by Week 1 if he can't get RGIII to throw for 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns in that game.

It's interesting how Chudzinski hasn't been picked up yet. Gotta wonder if there's something going on.

Speaking of Gruden, check out his face in his ESPN interview.

The Redskins signed Gruden, which shows that yet another of Caldwell's interviews, that "went well", turned out to be Rooney Rule talks. I can't believe we need to wait until the Chargers are done to see Wisenhunt get signed by the Lions.

I wonder what happens, when Caldwell will inevitably have no place to go. Will we keep him? Will we fire him or does yet another team "show interest"?

@RAIDERS: Tony Sparano has signed a 2 year contract to remain the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach of The Oakland Raiders.

Looks like he's not going to Tampa bay after all

Even if the Lions don't go with Ken Wisenhunt, they're also pretty keen with Mike Zimmer (as long as he doesn't sigh with the Vikings) and Adam Gaze, it seems. Then again, the Colts were patient enough to wait until the 2011-12 AFC Championship Game was over BEFORE hiring Chuck Pagan. So, if Lions really want Wisenhunt, they'll wait.

I never once thought Jim Caldwell was going to be a serious candidate for any team, simply because of how bad Baltimore's offense was and what happened to his Colts when Manning went down. But, unless something miraculous was to happen, Caldwell is going to be back with the Ravens.

Although, nothing is for certain; who knows? Maybe Caldwell is still under contract for the sake of making him look more appealing in his interviews (by his resume not including the part where he was a recently fired offensive coordinator). Maybe, after the Lions (and Browns and Titans) hire their coach, Caldwell might be fired and whoever Harbaugh wants to be the O.C. will be revealed, after interviewing candidates behind doors.

Still, I just want Detroit to hire someone else. That way, Teryl Austin gets to stay in Baltimore, at least.

That would be the downside to Caldwell leaving.  We should have made Austin and not Pees the DC, he's a really good secondary coach IMO.

The Vikings are closing in on Mike Zimmer as they are giving him a second interview next week.

Please get that man out of the division.  The Bengals D will be worse without him.

The Bengals O, on the other hand, could be similar or even better under Hue.

It is sounding like no one wants the Browns job and for good reason. Lots of concern there with the front office.

Candidates are calling Chud and he is telling it how it was.

Interesting. Someone will take it obviously, but you don't often see hesitance like this when it comes to getting a NFL coaching job.

The Titans have hired Whisenhunt to be their HC.

With Whisenhunt to the Titans, it looks like Caldwell could end up in Detroit.

You just beat me to it. I was just going to post this.

Good hire by the Titans, and guess we'll be looking for a new OC after all.
