2014 Coaching Carousel

They wanted him to make changes to the coaching staff, Munchak refused, thus he was fired.

Ian Rapoport@RapSheet2m

#Titans have, in fact, fired coach Mike Munchak, team sources confirm. First reported by @mortreport. Wouldn’t make staff changes

Blinded by loyalty. We can relate. Still, he's a bit foolish for letting himself get fired over it.

Wonder if Mr. Bountygate finds another job. He was doing good work with that Titans defense.

Nope, he was Tennessee's OL coach for over a decade. As a player, he was a nine time pro bowler at LG for the Oilers.

Oh nice.

Wonder if they will go after the in state choice of Vanderbilt's James Franklin. Surprised the Titans didn't fire their GM as well.

That's the sad thing. There are some good coaches who got fired and good coaches who can come in and help us be a better team, and we go after them. If we could get Munchak as our OL coach, that would be awesome but we know it won't happen.

Updates from La Canfora: "Two names I heard very quickly connected to the Titans opening - Chargers O coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and Arizona D coordinator Todd Bowles"

Whisenhunt seems to be the hot commodity this year, but they all can't get him.  This might improve the odds that Caldwell gets another shot at being a HC.

On Munchak, is he a ZBS guy?  I honestly don't know.  I like the scheme, I just think our players aren't well coached and we have clear personnel deficiencies.

Mike Munchak will interview with Penn State for their HC position.

As @mortreport reported, former Titans HC Mike Munchak will interview today for the Penn State HC job.

Pretty sure Munchak is a man blocking guy with some ZBS mixed in.

I sort of like the scheme, but I sorta don't. Inside zone blocking is just too tough to do consistently. It's too easy for dlines to stop it. I'm of the belief that ZBS is best used for perimeter runs and MBS is best used for inside and some off tackle runs.

The Dolphins have fired OC Mike Sherman

Not the change I thought they make. Guess Jeff Ireland gets one more chance to try to be a good GM.

Just listened to the Lovie Smith press conference, wow. The way he was talking about the players, he just felt so energetic and excited. Guess the year off was what he needed.

Apparently the Raiders will know about Dennis Allen's fate by tomorrow, but it would take something pretty monumental for him to get fired. It sounds like most of the staff will stay on, but there'll be a few cuts. Sounds like they're on the fence about OC Greg Olson at this point.

The Dolphins have fired GM Jeff Ireland.

I bet the Miami fans are partying in the street. Assuming they're still Dolphins fans after failing to make the playoffs. :P

Kinda surprised since his big spending almost paid off this season. Wonder how much longer Philbin will be around now.

Hope the Raiders aren't dumb to fire Dennis Allen or even get rid of Greg Olsen. He made Pryor and McGloin look like decent starters. Imagine what he could do if they could draft a legit number one reciever like Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans.

Raiders won't fire either and Olson is a legit QB guru he made JOSH FREEMAN look like a pro bowler and he got 1000 yard season out of legarette Blount

Once the Raiders get legit NFL talent I'll be eager to see what we can do

That's been my thing... members have said that we should draft Mike Evans...  Evans isn't going to be around for us at 17.  Too many teams like the Bucs, Raiders, Jags, Browns, all need WR's....

That guy stinks. He deserves to be unemployed.

As bad as he is...  You gotta give him credit for getting Wallace down here... and Ellerbe.

Good players but he overpaid. I saw it as a last ditch effort to keep his job, he might still have one if they made the playoffs

Exactly. He might still have one if he'd brought in a couple of linemen and at least tried to front-load the cap hits of the guys he overpaid for while they had the space.

Yep, I know we all talk about potential replacements for Caldwell, well a legit replacement would be Greg Olsen.

I'd be very disappointed if Olsen was available and our front office didn't bother with him.

Jesus Christ I go onto rotoworld.com and see there are 5 recent reports regarding Dennis Allen and each of the reports have a different take on his status. The way Mark Davis handles business pisses me off.

Whew finally some clarity

It has been confirmed Dennis Allen will be the coach of the Raiders in 2014

Also, 5 unnamed assistants have signed one year extensions, not including tony Sporano who will join the Buccs

Well, I guess they will see what McKenzie as GM will do with all that cap room and then see if Allen can do anything if they use it to bring in some players. Good move though, the Raiders are like the Redskins, they lack stability at the coaching position as they have been tossing coaches left and right.

Allen has 2 yrs left on his contract and so far his hands have been tied due to lack of talent. It would've been an unjust firing if he was let go.

A  little sidenote tho is that Allen wanted 2 yr contract extensions for his assistants but they were only given one yr extensions.

I'm still hoping someone signs Mike Zimmer for HC and gets him out of our hair. I mean anybody but Cleveland. Lol.

Zimmer has an interview with the Vikings today and Titans on Thursday.
