Browns gonna Brown.

Hopefully Norv is next. I'd love to see him calling the shots for our offence.

After what he did in Cleveland I'm willing to give him a shot. Let's steal Horton while we're at it, he's really good and fits the mentality our defense should have. Hashtag ThereWillBeBlitzes.

He's also an Air Coryell kinda guy (I suspect Caldwell didn't want to be an AC guy but got backed into that corner, though that's beside the point really), so there shouldn't be too many growing pains. Put me down as one of those guys who likes him as an OC, but not a HC.

I wonder what the Browns fans are saying about Horton.

That's my only hesitation with Turner. I'd rather see us try something new and get away from the Coryell.

Come on!!! Please get Horton! I wanted him badly last off-season. The guy can coach a defense. I think he must not be a likable guy but I'll be a bit pissed if he isn't at least considered and I think that's very likely to happen.

I swear I'll be furious with our coaching staff if we don't at least try to go for him.

Great defenses don't get you a SB or into the playoffs consistently. It's odd Rex doesn't know that, after being a Raven for so long. Regardless of Flacco's lackluster season this year, he def pushed us into SB contention and last year we ended up winning with an average defense.

Does Rex have even a clue on how to build a evenly matched team on both sides of the ball? I doubt it. He is a great defensive mind and that's not enough in this NFL. He should build himself a time machine and travel to the 70s.

He should be like Dick LeBeau.  Stick to playing defensive coordinator for his entire career.  The guy can coach, but I would never put him in charge as a team's talent evaluator.  Don't even let him into the draft room.

I doubt the Jets keep him there long term.  That team is doomed since it seems Woody Johnson is more worried about money than how well his team plays.  If he ends up fired, I'd love to bring him back as our DC no matter who we have.  One of the best DC the nfl has seen.

Why would we?  I'd like to, but Harbs believes in our guys.  He's probably not friends with Horton.

I know and it pisses me off knowing we probably won't. I mean come on now. I like Pees but Horton is a superior coach from what I've seen and the defenses I've seen both coaches consistently put out with the talent they had. I think he's a reason why Arizona's defense was so good because of the impact he had on the players.

It's hard to evalutate our coaching decisions. Harbs doesn't like giving out information on where the team is heading, which he probably shouldn't have to anyway, because it would make gameplanning against other teams much harder for him and his staff.

However with all the generic coach speak John constantly gives us on how "he likes our guys", these message boards have nothing better to do, but speculate.

Somebody in another topic already brought up, that this team might start running more of an offense akin to what Caldwell had in Indy (only speculation of course), but due to injuries at key positions, those plans failed. It would be interesting to see and probably a good idea, but that would also make big changes in the coaching staff virtually impossible.

It's near impossible to make changes to a team's philosophy in one season and changing coaches every season can do more damage than good to your franchise. Just look at the Browns, who had a good HC in Chud, imho, and stupidly fired him. How many coaches did the Browns have already? It would be easier to count sand in a desert, I guess.

Alex Smith's carreer is another good example. He never was going to be as good as Rodgers, but atleast Aaron had a solid and established coaching staff taking care of him, while Smith had a new OC every season, early in his carreer and it wasn't until Jim Harbaugh took over the 49ers, that he came to his own.

For all the complaining I did about Cam, I'm still glad we didn't change OCs early in Flacco's carreer.

Systems can change how certain players perform, especially QBs.

@RapSheet "The #Bucs are finalizing a deal for Lovie Smith to be their new coach, per source"

Perfect scheme fit really.  The Bucs are still a bad organization, but Lovie has everything there he needs to have his trademark defense.

I agree.  I think they made the right decision.

According to rotoworld, he has a staff lined up already. Apparently Jeff Tedford will run the offense, Rod Marinelli will run the defense, along with possibily Leslie Frazier have some role on the defensive side.

Frazier is the backup DC choice if the Cowboys don't release Marinelli from his contract (which is what is expected to happen).

Scratch that. Sounds like Marinelli is going to get out of his contract in Dallas.

Are the cowboys really gonna run the same defense next season?

Jerry Jones is a class A moron. He's arrogant, and an idiot. Probably the worse GM(ever since he took over on that the Cowboys have been a joke) in the NFL.

Sad thing is, Romo can win a SB. They have the personnel on offense to make a run. Jerry is just too big of an idiot to go draft more men on defense to do it.

Cowboys defense doesn't screw up, and they get a coordinator who understand what a running game is, and Romo doesn't choke and the Cowboys probably make a run

Sad.

I'm head scratching when they fired Chud, then went on interviewing Josh Daniel and now hire Schwartz as DC?

If they hire Josh, the Browns will be buried in hell in the next decade.....

It would be a sad scene for the hardcore Browns fans........

PS: I hope we go after Horton as DC.....

I guess that means they're returning to the 4-3 defense. Good news!

Phil Taylor, Desmond Bryant, Billy Winn, Rubin?(Not the lineup, just naming the Linemen). Scary.

Lineup would be

Bryant-Rubin-Taylor-Winn/Sheard

Mingo- Jackson- ?

They might play Mingo at the Von Miller Roll then. That also eliminates the need for a MLB #2.

I don't like Kruger as a 4-3 player though

Kruger def becomes a waste of money now. He isn't a 4-3 guy. All these coaching changes, defensive scheme changes every year it seems. Can never get into a rhythm.

They are interviewing Cardinals DC Todd Bowles tomorrow and McDaniels Saturday. Lombardi for some reason is a fan of McDaniels so pretty much he is the guy they want and will get. Bowles is just a interview for the rooney rule.

McDaniels, Schwartz and I'm guessing Ryan Mallett as their QB.

Looks like Caldwell is going to find some work. Good for him but I don't believe in any team he takes over.
