Yet the Vikings fired Frazier. I agree with what Mike Martz said, firing Frazier was a mistake. It's amazing that Frazier took the fall for their GM failing to draft a true franchise quarterback. If anything similar to Whisenhunt last year, he got fired in Arizona due to their GM who failed to get a legit QB after Warner.

Frazier deserves to be a Head Coach somewhere but sadly he'll have to take a coordinator job.

do teams ever hire a coach that is actually successful on the last team they coached ?

Well if you considered Shannahan successful in Denver, then Washington did, but let's face it - successful coaches don't get fired often, so they're not exactly available like unsuccessful coaches are.

Yes if you consider coordinators being hired as HCs or if you count college (Chip Kelly) or other leagues (Marc Trestman)

But why would a successful team make their head coach available

Lovie Smith and Marty Schottenheimer come to mind.

News out of New York:

Report: Giants to fire OC Kevin Gilbride. Not Tom Coughlin as most expected but it seems they will see if hiring a new OC will change anything for the Giants.

Also Jets are interested in giving Rex a 1 year extension that would make him coach of the Jets through 2015.

Trying something different to fix bad Eli I assume.  He's going to be hit or miss any given year, that's just the type of player he is.  They need to fix their OL too though, a bad running game was definitely one of their problems as well.

No one expected Coughlin to get fired, lol. Except some disgruntled fans...

The Vikings are looking at the Denver Coordinators as potential replacements for Frazier.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/12/30/report-denver-coordinators-on-vikings-radar/

Imagine the disappointment in Minnesota when they go and interview the Broncos OC and some random guy named Adam Gase shows up and not Peyton Manning.

I'd say it worked out for the Chargers.  With all their problems, it still looks like Mike McCoy fixed Philip Rivers.

With that Jets team he definitely deserves credit.

He's partly responsible for making it "that Jets team" in my mind. He's had five years to shape it.

I don't care who gets hired but I want Zimmer & Gruden out of Cincinnati. I hope someone hires those guys.

Seconded in a major way.  Those guys are two of the best in the league at what they do.

Anyone surprised Dennis Allen and Mike Munchak survived Black Monday?

Not really - remember the Titans kept Fisher for over 15 years - they don't like change.  And Dennis Allen hasn't been on the job long, and given the crazy coaching carousel that has been Oakland over the past decade, I think they're trying for some stability as well.  I think Allen has one more season; Munchak who knows - Bud seems to hate shaking things up.

Great defenses don't get you a SB or into the playoffs consistently. It's odd Rex doesn't know that, after being a Raven for so long. Regardless of Flacco's lackluster season this year, he def pushed us into SB contention and last year we ended up winning with an average defense.

Does Rex have even a clue on how to build a evenly matched team on both sides of the ball? I doubt it. He is a great defensive mind and that's not enough in this NFL. He should build himself a time machine and travel to the 70s.

Bill O'Brien will be the Houston Texans new head coach, via Adam Schefter.

Should probably merge the coach threads.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this (and I don't think we need another thread devoted to coaches); but: Former Penn State coach/New England Patriots offensive coordinator, Bill O'Brien, has been HIRED by the Houston Texans. That's probably a surprise, isn't it?

Oh, and Norv Turner is expected to be fired by Cleveland, at some point. LOL, Browns... I guess...

I think we hire Norv this time lol....

He's a good OC. He just can't be a head coach

In which case was the most logical reason to fire him? Yeah ok.

The Browns have fired DC Ray Horton, via Twitter.

Browns gonna Brown.

Hopefully Norv is next. I'd love to see him calling the shots for our offence.

I would love to see Horton replace Pees, but then again he'll probably end up being a Head Coaching Candidate within a year and then we'll be back to square one.
