In Ozzie We Trust (2014 Edition) The Ravens Free Agency Thread

2,261 posts in this topic

Two key waives

Get rid of Ozzie Newsome and reluctantly trade Joe Flacco.

Flacco proved what he really is without a running game or a clutch receiver. He is mediocre. His QBR was 73.1 He threw for more interceptions than touchdowns and it was an all year debacle. He threw to the other team for Pick 6 too often. He threw behind or in front of players again and again.

Flacco can't do it alone and at 120 million is too expensive in this Salary Cap era. He is Ozzie's baby and Ozzie is responsible for that arrangement as well.

Trade Flacco and we can afford to keep all our free agents. Not that we really want to keep them all, but Flacco's ability coupled with his contract is the lead weight around the Raven's neck.

Take the lead weight from around the neck of the Ravens and fasten it to Ozzie Newsome. Let him sink into the sunset.

And you've researched the cap implications if we were to trade Flacco?

You don't understand.  "Ozzie Newsome must be held accountable."  Ya know?  The guy who built a playoff caliber team for 5 years straight and won a Super Bowl.  He has to go.  He's terrible.

Seriously-

Some of you really don't know this team.  The Ravens just gave Flacco a $120 million contract last year and now you expect a trade??

This nonsense is not worthy of wasting band width on this board.

look all of us here are not clueless. flacco is a very flawed Qb.. but we can win with him. Problem is...we cant win with him if hes taking money away to make us a better team.

I would cut suggs and get byrd. Byrd is a game changer. Best FS in the league..would allow elam to be closer to the line.

Hire Norv Turner and Kris Richard to be the coordinators then sign Alex Mack and Walter Thurmond. If we extend Suggs then we could afford it.

How about Byrd instead =) ?

Winter is coming!

That means the off season and the Draft are coming around the Corner soon.

Last offseason, Ozzie used the offseason to retool the defense. Now he will do so with the offense. So, I have put together a list of REALISTIC free agents we could potentially get come March.

But since Free Agency is both ways, here is the list of our free agents

Dennis Pitta

Eugene Monroe

Micheal Oher

Arthur Jones

James Ihedigbo

Ed Dickson

Corey Graham

Terrence Cody

Josh Bynes

Albert McClellan.

Dayrl Smith

Tandon Doss

the ones crossed r not coming back due to teams offering more $$$ like art jones,

There's actually more. Update your list with this information. Here's a list of the actual free agents and their categories:

Unrestricted Free Agents

T Michael Oher- expensive to keep, but who's a better option than him

WR Jacoby Jones- duel threat for the ravens, i hope Oz finds a way to keep,

CB Corey Graham- solid CB, hopes he stays around, he might get a better deal elsehwere

TE Dennis Pitta

DT Arthur Jones-too expensive for the ravens

TE Ed Dickson -  inconsistant, lot of drops early in season,

LB Daryl Smith- good addition for the ravens, hopefully keep around

S Jeromy Miles- ST

DT Terrence Cody- replaceable

S James Ihedigbo- pleasant surprise, oz will keep him around

TE Dallas Clark-productive vet, should stick around.

T Eugene Monroe- u dont trade for someone unless u plan to keep for a while.

Restricted Free Agents

LB Albert McClellan- ST gem

S Anthony Levine- dont know much about him

WR Tandon Doss- inconsistant, showed some  flashes.

S Omar Brown - give this guy some reps please, will stick around, dont want c a bobby rainey cut again.

Exclusive Rights Free Agents

LB Josh Bynes- good vs run, sucks vs pass

LB Adrian Hamilton- haven't seeing a lot out him, he seems to have rush skills

LB DJ Bryant-ST

S Brynden Trawick-ST

Now the ones I bolded are the ones I think are coming back... Dayrl Smith is hit or miss.

But the way I see it, we need to retool the oline in FA, and get weapons in the draft.

But, since it's Ozzie Newsome we will not have any big names coming in.

OMG, the sky is FALLING is what we will be seeing in a matter of months.

But, it usually works out. So all rumors, opinions, who you want to pick up, and confirmations go here(like my old thread).

Ozzie knows what he's doing. I said it last year. This is a two year plan. Ozzie is going to retool the offense now. We will be getting new WRs and new Olinemen.

Think of it this way. We are a good oline and another weapon or two away from being contenders again. We need PLAYMAKERS, we didn't have any last year.

I trust Ozzie, and I think we go back to the postseason after this offseason

u forgot jacoby also and we probably won't even insult art bc he has played his way into a bigger contract than we can afford

wouldn't we owe him close to 40 million lol.

Maybe. I think some idiotic team is going to throw cash at him like there's no tomorrow.

its more likely that Jones will be swept away by some team on a free agency shopping spree. Smith is way underrated and not too young so I see us being able to retain him, especially if we arent able to get both Monroe and Pitta.

Well, the thing is, in this league, you will go nowhere without a top QB (by "top" I mean very talented, not a top 3 QB). And those guys cost serious money. There are only seven active QBs to have won a SB, and I believe every single one of them has recieved $100M contracts. Even guys like Ryan and Vick, who have never won one, have gotten $100m deals.

So, we have to cut some salary....but it will not he from the QB position.

Smartest post I read all day. Ozzie is an idiot, and Flacco sucks. Genius!

I think the Texans, Browns, Vikings, Jags, Raiders and Titans would agree with you.

I've mentioned this before but aside from the huge hit to our cap, if the Ravens cut or traded Flacco and he were to blossom under the direction and guidance of competent coaching elsewhere, that would make our entire organization from owner on down to coaches look like clueless clowns.

I'm talking Cleveland Brown level of clueless clowns.

We are probably hooked on all the guarantee money, but here again is a situation why the Salary Cap is anathema to being a fan or sustaining a team.  Your G.M. makes a bad deal and you're stuck with a lead weight while having to cut and waive players that make your team.

Between the Salary Cap, bad G.M. moves and Referee bogus penalties it may be time to take up fall fishing. Did anyone see that penalty on Diggs along the sideline where he forced the Bengal O.B. so he couldn't get his feet down. If that's a penalty, it's hard to justify watching the NFL and Flacco's struggles.  We have too many problems. It's time for a sabbatical.

I've got last year's Championship Game taped.  I think I'll just watch it again and again when I want to see football.

Fishing is Fun

trading flacco or releasing him is not an option lol.

unless he gets a career ending INJ, he will be with the ravens for at least 2 more seasons.

Also hate him or love , the GM had to resign him with the lack of better options on the market and the uncertainty  of a better option showing himself any time soon.

unless people realisticly think peyton , brady , brees or rodgers would become availeble there isent really an upgrade out there.

also doubt guys like cam or luck would become FA or tradeble any time soon and even if im not so sure if they really would be an upgrade.

The ravens rarely have a top pick so its also highly unlikel they could get an top QB in the draft.

for every wilson there is a RGknee as well....

the ravens dont have many options to get an upgrade over flacco and the options they have arent realistic.

flacco however has numerous options as many teams see him as an upgrade over who they have...

1. Sign Monroe and Pitta

2. Please, for the love of god, no Alabama guys

3. a top WR prospect in the 1st round would be nice

I don't know, I feel like it's Alabama defensive players that are more prone to being busts. Lately, Eddy Lacy, Chance Warmack, Julio Jones have been pretty. Even Mark Ingram is starting to show signs of life.

The defensive players, though, that's a different story

1. I ask this all the time, but tell me one quarterback who excels without two of the following three: good receivers, a good offensive line, or a good running game.

The initial response is always Aaron Rodgers, but his plethora of weapons rivals Denver's and was the best for years. Most websites that analyze offensive lines rank Green Bay's in the top 10, usually around 5-8. So, Aaron Rodgers is off the table (and he also has a run game this year), so tell me one.

2. Pretty sure two Super Bowls earns you the chance to walk off on your own terms

the browns or jags would throw so much money at flacco it would be sickening

Yep. Saves $7.8M

Hmm. Something to chew on. One of my all time favorite Ravens, but he also probably has very little left in the tank...maybe another year left or so.

Truth be told, I think that money is best spent on an OL or two. Maybe we trade him if we don't cut him.

Yeah I'm just doing my civic duty to prepare people for the possibility.  So many people are quick to say that it won't happen because it's Suggs, but money is money and he's obviously not going to be part of the team's future.  I still think that he ultimately stays (not at his current cap number), but if you're looking at big name players that may not be on the team next year, Suggs is the first one you should look at.  This could be another Boldin type move where we ask him to take a pay cut, he says no, so we look to unload him via trade or cut if it comes down to it.

That truly is a very plausible scenario. I don't think we will be THAT pinched for cap space that he is given an ultimatum, but if that scenario plays out, I think that is the FO tipping their hand that they are targeting a specific player in FA or trade.
