Anquan Boldin finishes 2013 with 85 catches 1,179yards and 7TDs...

was he the most missed player this year as far as FA losses?

Well, since we can only include players who are still playing, is there even another player that the Ravens miss? What have Cary Williams, Ellerbe, Kruger or Pollard done recently?

Okay, we get it, already! The Ravens offense obviously missed Boldin in 2013. This so-called "plan" was in trouble the moment Dennis Pitta got hurt. Now, how effective would Anquan Boldin have been in this offense? Seeing how the o-line was a joke and Caldwell couldn't coordinate this offense, the Ravens win maybe one more game at best? Not like this year's team would have gone far in the postseason...

Case-in-point, the 49ers can thank the Ravens for Boldin. But, at the same time, the John Harbaugh has to thank his brother for "giving" Baltimore Marlon Brown, in return. Even if he was with the Ravens, this season, Boldin would have most likely left in free agency (since there's so many other free agents on the team that are younger). Sometimes you've just got to put things in perspective: I still think the Ravens finding a (potential) future weapon is more important than wasting Boldin for another year with our offensive line and Caldwell's play-calling. How much longer until September rolls around?

Really well put. I don't think we'd be re-signing Boldin for next season with the cap hit he'd be taking (more than Flacco, btw).

I know how much it sucked watching him do really well this year. And it sucked watching Joe struggle to get the ball to an open receiver this season. However, losing Boldin helps us a lot in the longer term imo. Like you say, we get to try out Marlon Brown (and I still think Aaron Mellette has potential for next season), and our offence got shown up bad this season. And that'll lead to longer-term fixes.

This year? Maybe. Ellerbe was a better player but Boldin was probably more missed, if that makes sense. It was compounded by Pitta going down, which no one could forsee, but yeah.

Anquan Boldin was easily the most missed FA from the 2012 roster. Cary Williams was unsurprisingly up and down in a poor 2013 campaign. Dannell Ellerbe was porous this season, surprisingly struggling against the run. Paul Kruger didn't live up to his contract, as he wasn't nearly as dominant in pass rushing as he was in Baltimore. And while Bernard Pollard was solid, the presence of James Ihedigbo and Matt Elam made his absence forgettable. This is obviously relative to the aforementioned question. He alone would not have solved all of our issues on the offensive end, i.e. the OL and RBs, and the loss of Dennis Pitta did magnify the significance of Boldin's loss. But it's more than conceivable that having him on this roster would've helped.

Nope, not even close.

Ben Grubbs was the biggest FA loss.

But that RB we spent the money on had a great season...

He wouldn't have produced that here. Never has.

Why compare Boldin to Smith? They aren't even the same type of WR. Lets compare a Ravens WR who Boldin is similar too

Marlon Brown

Started 12 games 49 Catches 524 Yards 7TDs

Boldin

Started 16 games 85 Catches 1,179 Yards 7 TDs

Browns projected production over an entire season based on those stats would be near Boldin. Had Pitta been here the entire season between Brown and Pitta it would have easily made up for Boldins production.

Agreed. Here for what 3 years really not that close to 1K in yardage. Gets there easily over 1K. Sad state of our garbage system.

Anyone who thinks we didn't miss Boldin is kidding themselves. Just having Boldin and Smith together on the same field would've made a significant difference.

Yes the offensive line was the main culprit of our offensive struggles, but that doesn't mean we didn't miss Boldin.

Right but people are acting like Boldin alone fixes= At one point historically bad running game, No pass blocking, no turnovers on defense, constant mental lapses of the defense to close games out, penalties, Worse FA in the history of the Franchise in Huff, The same poor offensive plays, injuries to Pitta and Jones. Ravens had so many more problems then missing 1 WR.

Could we have used him? Yes of course hes a good weapon but nobody could have predicted our Oline and running game to be as bad as it was. Ravens were stopped so many times in the redzone cause the running game was terrible. Had we had even the poor rushing from last season we'd be 10-6, in the playoffs and nobody would be mentioning Boldin.
