Ravens offseason - Coaches

138 posts in this topic

After the first few games of last season I've become a fan of Pees.  He's a solid football coach and has given us a quality effort.

This season the Ravens led the league in three and outs.....On Defense too.

As good as the defense was they would have been even better if the offense could have mustered together something that reminded someone of an average NFL caliber offense.

I agree with this wholeheartedly!

The offensive slate needs to be wiped clean. Pees is ok. His defenses work. We just need Arthur Brown to step up and we need a FS like yesterday.

I would really like to see Strength and Conditioning coach, Bob Rogucki go . IMO, he has ruined many of our former and current skill players with his lifting philosophy (Heavy, raw lifting - abandoning resistance training, thus adding bulk and contributing to jacked, slower, less limber players e.g. Dawan Landry, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Ray Rice). I would also like to see the WR coach, Jim Hostler go bye-bye along with Castillo and Caldwell. I think Hostler developed the WR's well for the Air Coryell, but we need a WR coach that can correct stride and strike, improve cut and fake ability, as well as, anticipation and reaction to play breakdown. we need to force the WR to understand why the fundamentals are so important for improving the short to intermediate passing game.

We need to hire a QB coach to teach Flacco timing better, the importance of selling the play fake and look off to open all route runners, not just locking on to the primary. I also think that resigning Pitta will hurt Flacco's progression, as he stubbornly locks on to Pitta, as he did with the other primary guys highlighting in our offense over the years. However, with Pitta, Flacco is worse than ever. Flacco needs to be forced to be better.

It's been a while since I've logged in and maybe it's just me, but I was watching the end of season Harbs interview and I heard him talking about making changes to the staff. I would personally love to add Ray Horton to our defensive staff in some capacity, if not even replace Pees. I would love this move and I feel it would really improve our team. Please tell me your thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Yes please. I've been saying I wish we could bring him in. Creative and aggressive play caller.

Was hoping to make a run at him last year but the Browns moved quickly.

I wish the Ravens would hire him but I don't see it happening.

This.

Hopefully browns don't promote him

I doubt they promote him. I expect him to get a DC job somewhere (Dallas maybe?).

All I can do is hope for the best but all I can think about is his defensive mind, our front 7 and our 2 safties/LB'S with Hedi and Elam. IT WOULD BE SUCH A FORCE!!!!!!!!!!!

Just read that he was fired earlier today....crazy!

And I can totally see him in Dallas next year.

With Pitta, Flacco is worse than ever.

Couldn't agree more; Flacco got his money, now he wants to help his friend get his....to the detriment of open receivers and the team. Flacco and Pitta have chemistry but it's not going to end well for the Ravens.

I can tell where Flacco is going with the ball as soon as he touches it!

He'd better hold off-season workouts with the receivers, I'll be really disappointed if he doesn't.

To the guy, who can catch the ball? Because, that would be Pitta.

How would Steve Spagnulo go as DC? Iirc he was alright with the Giants, but his stint with the Saints is a bit of a blemish (although with the talent he had...).

ravens dont have the linebackers to play 4-3 so i doubt spag can make it work unless he will be rushing at least 1 LBer making it a 5 man rush.

horton would be a great d.coord.

wished they fired rex to bring him back but its highly doubtfull he would go back to being a DC.

given his ego and what he accomplished i think he views himself as an HC and even though he got a big mouth i wont dissagree with it either.

Great defensive minded coach.

On the offensive side, I would like to see Castillo and Hostler go. Caldwell is a good coach but not an OC. Chud or Norv? Not sure what other candidates could be fits and willing to accept coordinator positions.

And even though I think Pees has done a pretty good job and is probably the least of our concerns, I do think we can do better. I would absolutely love to have Leslie Frasier, but I would also be interested in Ray Horton and Romeo Crennel.

Wouldn't mind replacing Pees if someone better is available but like others have said, it's not completely necessary. We improved on defense greatly from the previous season. We just need to clean up the late game errors.

I'm glad Lovie Smith took the Bucs job. There's a good chance now that Caldwell leaves. I just hope that Harbaugh doesn't promote from within. I'm hoping we get a new offensive mind in here to shake things up a bit.
