Ravens offseason - Coaches

Caldwell and Pees are too soft for me!  They lack creativity and aggressiveness in their play calling.  Get'em out of here!

I'm afraid we will be coming back with a very very similar coaching staff

Wish we could get a real OC

I wouldn't be surprised if everyone came back, including Castillo.

sadly I think he will be at the very least oline coach he is responsible for installing and teaching zbs and we are sticking with it .i think Caldwell and pees are toast.

I think we need to keep the Mad Scientist Pees!  An get Ed Reed as d coach, when he retires as a Raven!

Ogden as oline coach? lol!

Let's get some former players in here to start their coaching careers!  Any ideas?

Cam Newton was better without him.

Sadly, i have a feeling we won't recognize that change HAS to be made to improve this team, and unless Caldwell/Pees get HC opportunities elsewhere, will be brought back. Same with Castillo.

But if Caldwell does get demoted to just a QB coach, my personal top 3 would be: Kubiak, Norv Turner, Chudzinski. In that order. DC i would go Crennel, or Frazier.

Last week, I wanted to rebuild the offensive staff, but I do want to see what Caldwell does with an NFL caliber line. He should get another chance in my opinion. I don't even think Sean Payton could have done much with this team.

I think the ravens should keep Jim Caldwell around he still one of the best quarterback coach in the league and don't forget he is the one that bought the no huddle and spread offense to the ravens.  I wouldn't mind Caldwell working with a offensive coordinator such as  Gary Kubiak

Unfortunately, the biggest problem is the head coach. We can bring in new assistants  but they will not be successful as long as John has his way. He does not have a football mind. I'm sure he's a great guy with great coaching pedigree but that doesn't make him head coaching material. Without cleaning house of the current coaching staff, we will continue to struggle and Joe Flacco will continue to be the scapegoat. Coach Harbaugh's error (sic) has now begun. It will not be pretty going forward. The front office is also to blame. The Wizard of Oz has become just another "man behind the curtain." The last couple college drafts have produced very little. No growth is stagnation and always loses leadership, Coach Harbaugh. The team did not grow this year under your leadership. Ozzie, you have had a great career and have been one of the best GMs in the business but your time has past. Its time for you to move on and let someone else evaluate talent. BTW, I don't think Eric Costa is the answer either. Today's players are different than yesteryear's. Ray Lewis knew when to go out. Do the right thing! Oh, and before you leave please fire the coach who didn't alert T-Sizzle to spy on Andy Dalton after the Ravens called a TO to discuss the goal-line defense they were in when Dalton scored the go-ahead TD. Thanks!

I'm not going to even try to refute all the complaints about Harbs because they are idiotic.

I will discuss the TD you are incorrectly pinning on Suggs. When the defense plays the option, defenders are assigned to stop the QB and his options. The OLB/DE's job is to stop the dive. Suggs did the right thing. The ILB is responsible for the QB keep.

Offense needs a remodeling.

Demote Caldwell to QB Coach.

Fire whoever ruined the O-line.

Bring in a fresh and creative-minded coach who can put this offense into the top ten.

Look at what Chip Kelly did for the Eagles.

As for Offensive Coordinators, I'm looking at Kyle Shanahan.

the main thing i notice is that the coordinators just lack an ability to adjust. I mean how many times in a row do we need to fail in the red zone or how many games does the offensive line have to fail before something changes. I am not advocating necessarily firing anyone but they need to become more creative or the Ravens will become stagnant. I remember all the talk about the new no huddle and how fast the Ravens will go and this and that, but it doesn't really produce. The best example i have is this: hopefully someone else has noticed when Flacco yells "laska" or "alaska", its something like that. But everytime he yells it its a pistol handoff to the right or left. I mean if i am able to see that just by watching the Ravens games you better believe every single head coach watching tape notices that. That just seems to be a microcosm of the lack of innovation to me. I hate to always compare but how do some other teams find ways to get it done but the Ravens continually failed. It is not the players faults when it becomes a trend no matter who is in there, either a coach needs to figure out wrinkles and ways to move the ball or the players we have just arent very good

Maybe a smashmouth WCO is what the doctor ordered for this team in transition.

But then this team tried to do the WCO and still sucked.

Yeah alaska is too funny, it was allways to a run except one time it was a big pass play, prob because the d thought it was a run!  But seriously? change the vocab right? how hard is that? I mean "Alaska 10" weeks in a row?  If the casual fan like me catches  on you know the defense is!

Yeah uh... Alaska alaska is a kill call, not an actual play, but okay guys, you know the exact play they run! :D

And you do?
Fact still remains that when he kills the play, it is always a hand off to the right

I'll be honest here, none of us on these boards, including myself, are NFL coaches. However some things are blatantly obvious.

My wish list would include putting Caldwell back at QB coach where he should be, firing Castillo, throwing anything he came up with right out the window and into the nearest dumpster, keeping Spags, and hiring a new OC (Chudz anyone??).

As much as Pees playcalling at times infuriated me, (((playing 8 yards off the ball in a third and five situation???))) I think he is consistent, however he needs to get aggressive. Jimmy Smith obviously is a corner built to play press-man. Let him do it, and watch him wrestle away INT after INT next season, I think he will if given the chance, as he's proven this year. Obviously Elam was bound to get burned by one of the fastest and most fluid receivers in the NFL at this point in Green.. what was Pees thinking? The play calling is suspect in coverage and sometimes he needs to send more on blitzes, but for the most part I think he's okay.

Offense is not okay, Castillo needs to be gone, Chudz needs to be in, needs to have control as someone posted previously. Draft influence, free agency influence, position coach influence, etc. Just do it.

We have too many offensive coaches. Harbs is way too paranoid. I don't think any one leaves because our HC cannot admit mistakes. Too many coaching conflicts, too many cooks.

Big changes after cap dump after next season.

Well, the o line troubles are compliments of juan Castillo and he is harbs' buddy so he's not going anywhere. Caldwell will go before harbs makes the o line better.

On the bright side, harbaugh says that juan is a "great teacher!"

Not even true, lol. I've seen quite a few times where it was a pass out of the gun or play action, or anything. You are incorrect. :)

its always the same kill call though

What advantage does that give the defense?

Nope, sorry, not buying it. Castillo shouldn't have shaken up the scheme, but if these players can't get their dumb heads around a simple scheme, they are to blame. They didn't execute worth a damn. They didn't even execute the plays we used last year, you know, the zone stretch and the iso and stuff like that.

Sorry, if these players couldn't execute something is painfully simple as the ZBS then I say it's on them.

Arnie, dear lord, I know you're you're smarter than the people that think Alaska is only used for runs. I've seen it used to check into pass plays too, and often at that.
