Cleveland Browns to fire HC Rob Chudzinski

60 posts in this topic

I agree completely.

Btw is the Jags best player ever Mark Brunell?

I'd say Tony Boselli.  If he didn't have those injury issues he'd be in that conversation with Ogden and Walter Jones.

But Fred Taylor and MJD aren't bad.

You guys forget About the (in)famous Jimmy Smith! That guy crushed us! He on house arrest now I believe !
9 seasons over 1000, almost 70 TDs and over 12k yards! even his last season, he was a BEAST!

Indeed I did.  He was a good player.

[twitter]RapSheet[/twitter] "The #Browns are retaining their assistants for now, I'm told. They will search for a head coach with them in place. Makes it interesting."

That's rather unusual.  There has to be more to this firing than just going 4-12.

Just waiting to see what their new HC wants I think. Norv and Horton are two of the better coordinators in the game so I like the decision.

I'm still mad at Ozzie for not going after Horton. I know Pees just won us a Super Bowl but I called for Horton last off-season and Norv Turner and I really like what they both did with the Browns. I really, really wanted Horton. Still mad we didn't go for him.

Joe Thomas speaks the truth:

“You look at the great franchises. They don’t fire your coach after the first season. You can’t do it,” Thomas said.
“It sets everything back,” Thomas said. “You just hit the reset button. Anytime you hit the reset button, it severely damages the organization, and it lengthens the amount of time that it takes to get back to the playoffs and turn the team into a consistent winner. … I think that this organization needs continuity and that’s the only chance that we’re going to have to turn this team into a consistent winner.”

Preach on Joe and dear god, please someone trade for him and save his career so he has a chance to win a Super Bowl.

Fixed...

Lombardi will take two pass rushers with those two first rounders

Lombardi was the one who brought in Chudzinski and after a year he fires him? The Browns did the same thing in 2008. In 2007 they had that great season, and then one bad season in 2008 and they let Crennel go. They didn't give any chance of Crennel to build the team the way he wants over several years. Instead of building off that great year in 2007 and looking at 2008 as a down year and keeping Crennel for 2009, they fired him for no reason.

Their front office, no matter who they bring in have zero patience with any coaching staff.

Time for the resident Browns fan to chime in!  :D

The team DID regress drastically in the 2nd half of the season.  Now I'm not saying that's entirely on the HC but in the end we know the HC will almost always be held responsible.  I feel awful for him because he was just used as a pawn.  The Browns did not get who they wanted last year (Chip Kelly) and they "settled" for what was left.  As much as that is awful to say and admit the Browns should have just done so.  Chud will wind up somewhere though and I wish him success wherever that is.

On offense - what are you going to do?  Nothing against Jason Campbell but he proved to the world why he is a career backup QB:  absolutely zero consistency.  He is serviceable as a QB and that's just that.  If you are a WR not named Gordon then you couldn't catch a pass to save your life.  At RB, Baker showed some good flashes late in the season and may end up being a decent pick-up but after that... ugh.  McGahee tried and I give him credit but he's just done as a viable RB option.  I'm honestly shocked we were in as many games as we were given we had virtually no rushing game.  I give Turner credit for doing what he did with the personnel he had and think he should stay.

On defense - where do I even begin?  The defense could not get a stop in any game when they needed to, their pass rush was abysmal and anyone in the secondary not named Ward or Haden just looked completely lost.  I don't necessarily think their DL is all that bad but for some reason they just played terribly and seemed to lack any effort trying to get to the QB.  I think if I'm the organization I take a really hard look at Horton and see if he's worth keeping around.  He irritated me some this season though preaching how good they were stat-wise.  Well that's great but nobody cares about that, ESPECIALLY when you are 4-12.

My other huge concern is current players and free agency.  Take what Joe Thomas said above for example, this isn't a good move and a hard sell to current personnel.  It also hurts with re-signing players and we have two big ones this year that are FAs and how do you convince them to come back  (T.J. Ward and Alex Mack for inquiring minds)  and play?  After next season two of your best three players become FAs (Josh Gordon, Joe Haden) so can you convince them to stay?  Can you even remotely begin to sign any FAs given that you can't keep anyone on a consistent basis?

As they say in Ohio, OIC  (Only In Cleveland).

I hope we steal Mack from you. Lol. No offense of course. Come on. Give him away. Let the man go!

Oh dear god. The AFC North will have Tim Tebow in it......

Skip Bayless is going to go crazy.

He'd be an improvement over Weeden.

Joe Thomas isn't the only one. A small handful of players (anonymously) shared their feelings on the situation, and they are less than amused, to put it lightly. One even said the team is "so dysfunctional." Anyone got a list of their free agents? At this point, I expect them to leave en masse...

Hah.  Well in all fairness Mack did say that he is going to entertain offers from other teams but that he would give Cleveland the chance to match any offer he received.  Of course that was before all of this so who knows at this point.

Heard on NFL network the assistant coaches have been told that they are not being let go for now, but it is ultimately up to the new HC if they will still have a job with the Browns.

So, are they allowed to go searching now or are they stuck in limbo? Doesn't seem right to keep them hanging and possibly missing out on other opportunities.

I think the browns fans have to be the most loyal bunch of fans ever. all they need is a franchise qb a good one and they will be competitive.

Lol at this comment:

The Browns are nothing like the Three Stooges. The Stooges are fun to watch, and you don’t have to spend $15.00 on a beer.

Touche' lol
