Melt thread: Bengals version

But you can't really do that either if you don't have a run game.  Otherwise, the linebackers just drop back five yards and it's interception time.  That was the virtue of the old Ravens team.  Because the line could run block, they could throw those short passes.

There are issues all around, for sure, but a lack of creativity was really holding us back this year.  Poor OL/run game or not, we used the same thing over and over again.  It was too predictable.  I could tell you what we were going to do most of today's game.  It was a go route, run up the middle, or dump off.  It's like we don't have anything else in our playbook.

Ok for those who say Flacco holds on to the ball too long, what do you want him to do if the play calling doesn't allow for short passes? We don't use the middle of the field at all, how is that his fault again?

I'm pretty sure no one is excluding Flacco, especially considering he had an awful season as well. However, it's easy to see that nearly everything surrounding him was pretty damn awful as well.

We've seen Flacco succeed when he had a decent offensive line and weapons to surround him. He didn't have that at ANY level of the offense. We had a horrible running game, a horrible offensive line, no weapons for most of the season outside of Torrey, and predictive coaching. The entire offense needs a major overhaul.

The irony of saying that is he had pretty much the same team now that he had last season minus Birk and Boldin . Same coach, same offensive coordinator during that amazing stretch. Yes, Pitta was hurt for most of the year but even when he came back, the offense still looked bad. He succeeded with pretty much the same ingredients he had when he played his best.I feel Joe weapons was not the greatest but it's not as bad as some of you guys are making it out to be. Look at other teams in the league, it gets a lot worse. Look at the Jets supporting cast for example.

Imho, the major blame falls on Harbs for bringing in his buddy to ruin the run game and the o-line.  I think there has been a lot of confusion on the offensive side of the ball this season from too many cooks in the kitchen.  Castillo needs to go.  But I really think he is destined to the OC position due to Harbs lack of awarness.

I'm still seeing the same people trying to skirt the blame on the D and our coaches.

Thats my point

I already know this team needs help. But how can you help the team when you pay the man the highest contract and his the WORST QB this season?

If joe needs all that help, then what's is so special about him that a talented new QB can't improve on with a all star cast?

look check the cap what we owe him and try to make sense hes not going anywhere . do  think manning throws the ball catches it and scores no he doesn't joe can not block throw and catch did he suck this year yes did he play out of his mind last year. you have football knowledge look at the tape then figure out why we sucked this year, or otherwise it is trolling and no one is in the mood for it ,

No Osemele either, or healthy Yanda.

Without the run game working there is no comparison to least year.

Yes, the run game has looked bad but QBs have played good before without a run game. Rodgers jumps out at me.

Simple:

* worst Rushing yardage since start of franchise.

* Worst Oline in the league.

* Second most sacked qb in leauge.

* Our supposed to be number "1" receiver T. Smith ( most dropped passes).

* Suggs and Dummervil didnt do crap for 7 games.

* Ngata what did he do all year?

I could keep going but we all know it's all on joe cause he got paid 120.mill.

And look at the Jets QBs and how they've fared during the Rex Ryan era.

I'm still holding that the OL, and subsequently running game, were the worst parts of the team this season. We got nothing from them.

Man I look at how the bengels offense played and all I could say was wow I bet our receivers could do the same thing if our offensive coordinator was a lot more creative with the passing attack.  Our offense sucks so bad with a creative passing attack to the point every cornerback looks like Revis .

Yes, runamuk, I agree and have been saying that Castillo was brought in here to take that OC position since the day he was hired.  It is a shame too, because Caldwell really hasn't been given a shot to actually revamp the playbook due to a short offseason.  And with all the confusion on the offensive coaching side, it just ended up a mess.  Honestly, I don't think Caldwell has been given a fair shot, it is obvious that Castillo had more influence on the o-line that Caldwell and that is Harbs fault.  I fully believe there is a lot of conflict on that side of the ball and it showed up in a confused offense this season, imo.

If you are going to reply, then answer my argument/critique.

Im not from Baltimore and some of you "fans" make me feel embarrassed for Baltimore.

people are upset it will blow over same folks were here running off after we won the superbowl. they all have football intelligence but come pn here and say cut  your franchiese qb  . anyone who says that has absolutely no clue how the nfl works .

We're not talking about Rodgers. The success of the Ravens passing game is predicated on play action. You can't be successful with that without a run game.

fair or not it is a qb driven league they get the most praise and blame and with all the rules slanted towards offense the great qb should shine

Anyone know when the "state of the Ravens" happens?

Good question. It's going to be earliest "State of the Ravens" in a while. Might happen some time in January.

If Castillo becomes OC I will have to SERIOUSLY reconsider my fandom

I agree with everyone who doesn't necessarily think Caldwell is the problem. That said the runs on every first down get tiresome.

We'll know more after next season and more excuses.

The Ravens have never had much luck in the OC department though. It's not like Flacco was the common denominator pre-2009.
