Melt thread: Bengals version

Im so frustrated and mad at out coaching. No creativity on offense, no use of the middle field, bernard started running hard and gaining yards( so they decide to stop using him). Theres no adjustments on both O and D if it doesn't work they keep doing it. Im also getting tired of harbs.

Flacco had an awful season, we can admit that right?

He did, but he also had no help.  Receivers that can't get open.  Offensive line that can't block.  Running backs that can't run.  Not a good year for Flacco, but it's hard when he literally had very few options week in and week out.

He did. He is being spared by some due to the horrific offensive line play.

Don't know why we took Pierce out for Rice.  Pierce was doing phenomenal to begin the game while Rice was on the sidelines.  For some reason, we just abandoned Pierce.  Ridiculous.

The D created 4 turnovers including 3 to put our O in great field position ( not including the muffed punt to put us in great field position ) and the offense couldn't get it done for the most part. Flacco looked awful again today as he under threw and over lead players on passes. Also, I think Flacco needs major improvement in calling out line protections against overload blitzes ( assuming it's him ) b/c he has had this issue even in his younger years ( Troy P sack fumble jumps out at me ).I like Flacco so I would hope that if surrounded with talent, he can perform better or if we don't put more talent around him, go back to the run being the focal point of our attack.

Wow..... I agree with you lol a sensible post.

I agree. The offense as a whole was a problem, but he was part of that problem, can't gloss over that fact.

Joe flacco needs Jim zorn back as Qb coach, his deep passes have been terrible

upgrade on the o-line

New OC, including o-line coach

I could see the defense falling off next season so it will probably be a two year rebuilding plan.

The chickens have come home to roost!  Meaning; that the lack of Ravens' offensive TD's earlier on in this game and in previous games have FINALLY caught up with them!  Even Pitta said; "We didn't capitalize like we should have on some of those turnovers!  And when you don't do that, it's going to be hard to win a ball game!  We (offense) just didn't get it done!"  How many times have we heard that statement this season?  lol!

Let's look at the positives:
*Last week of Oher
*Last week of Shipley starting at the least
*Good defensive effort when Pees called good plays
*Dalton will prob suck in the playoffs against real defenses

Oh yeah for sure.  Flacco definitely had a very poor year.

I'll make a thread later....

Anywho, you can't do it every year.

Get rid of most of the coaching staff. Have a good draft and we are back in it next year.

No need to lose hope yet

I think this team finally has an off-season free of playoffs perhaps we can have our pick of coaches to strengthen our staff once again.

I believe we need massive changes within the coaching ranks. I don't believe Caldwell has the creativity to be the OC long term. During the Superbowl run teams couldn't scout Caldwell as playcaller effectively due to lack of sample size now it's pretty evident he doesn't adjust on the fly or to his personnel well. Also the offense doesn't find ways to get the ball into its best playmaker hands enough Torrey smith should be getting screens, pick-plays , crosses and slants, put in motion more.
Ray rice struggled all year but we continued to run him into the butts of our Oline ( which is insanity doing the same thing over and over expecting different results ).

Castillo ruined what was an average to above average Oline turned them into abysmal top to bottom, never adjusted to go back to power football. In fact the Oline struggled so much in running situations it made us stop using leach due to no one blocking stacked boxes.

Defensively Suggs needs to be more consistent. He basically disappeared about 7 weeks ago. That seems to be the last time he had a QB hurry or Knockdown ( not literally don't need a stat line). Webb had a shakey year at best. We need to find a coverage Safety, Elam and Ihedigbo are both in the box SS. Neither cover well in space both shoulder tackle too much also.

Jimmy showed tremendous improvement but next season is his contract year so I don't know if they should pay the kid based on how every else has played once they get check from the ravens. Ngata , rice hurt all time after getting paid.... Flacco throws most ints of Career, Suggs got fat, then good, then injured, now ok to good again, Webb looked great before the injury this year has been average at best for him.

Because this team probably operates on a script; it's not about the hot hand. So, they'll keep switching between the two every drive and rarely switch it up.

what a rough year.

Can't figure out where it all went wrong...

I think it's a lack of depth.  We were counting on guys like Pitta, Gradkowski, Osemele, etc., but when they got hurt/didn't play well, we didn't have any viable alternatives.

You guys mistake coverage sacks and overload blitzes ( sending more on one side than you have blocking ) as a O-line mistake and that's not the case all the time. Either your QB has to know O-line protection schemes when faced with certain blitzes or he has to be able to hit the hot route quickly knowing that there will be a free man coming. Also, got to know that if you have counted to 4 one thousand on your mental clock, either you need to be rolling out or throwing it away. Not saying it's Flacco's fault every time on this but I'm sure a few of those times is his fault.

49.8 QB Rating for Flacco in the finale is making Geno Smith blush.  Yet he stated "I believe I'm worth more than what the Ravens offered" . LOL, I hope for the good citizens of Maryland Flacco doesn't ever get into the used car business.

Ohhhh the irony!!  lol!  Like Tyrod...but in a more meaningful game with playoff survival implications; Flacco tossed 3 INT's vs the Bengals today and the Ravens season-ending pick 6.  LOL!!  Cats in here jumped all over Tyrod for coming off the bench cold and turning the rock over 2xs last week.  Can't wait to see how cats in here try to spin this one for their boy!

Can we please, please, get Flacco an offensive line that doesn't suck?  Please?

And remember letting him have the reigns to choose the play?  We won the SB with that, why change when it work?

And for the love of all that is holy, please show Castillo the door.  Egad but that was a recipe for disaster.

  • I'm the only fan that thinks we only have 15 plays in our playbook - Wildcat.
  • 4- pistol
  • 4- under center
  • 3 -shotgun
  • 4- runs

And even those don't work!  lol!

Solid point.

Definitely miscommunications.

Gradkowski, the center could play a part in that too

When you force four picks and STILL have trouble getting on the board, something's wrong.

Caldwell has to go, the offensive line needs to be overhauled, and we need to get weapons who can deliver consistent production on offense.

Be careful to what you post. Might not be smart in the heat of the moment....

I'm expecting a long boring recycled thread about Flacco popping up any second now.

We didn't deserve the win. Did not take advantage of all the opportunities they gave us. Could not block. Could not run. Could not tackle. Could not throw.

Flacco playing hurt behind the worst offensive line I've ever seen. To go along with the worst run game I've ever seen. He throws a horrible pass to "officially" end it. Now since he's the QB he deserves blame. I'm expecting him to get all the blame from most of you. Whether his contract affected today's game or whatever crazy reason some of you can come up with. It's going to be a long offseason on here.

Had a couple nice INT's off a horrible QB. Could not stop the run and folded under pressure. Could not even record a sack and it doesn't even feel like they hit him.

Joe Flacco didn't lose. The entire team lost. We didn't deserve it and I've already moved on.

Get heathy Joseph! Hopefully Ozzie gets you some help next year.

I agree.  The offensive line could not block.  Joe never had a chance.  Two first qtr INTs, get into the red zone and cannot get touchdowns.

can the Ravens demote Caldwell to be QB coach?

Painfull... The lack of weapons has never been more obvious.

The weapons are there... you got to get the ball to them. Flacco needs to take the game more serious. "Joe Cool" is really "Joe apathetic". Im hoping we finally talk about the elephant in the room.
