Yanda, Ngata, Suggs, Tucker named to Pro Bowl Roster

37 posts in this topic

Congratulations are in order for Justin Tucker, Haloti Ngata, Terrell Suggs, and Marshall Yanda.  Although, in my opinion, the latter 3 are getting in based on reputation more than their play this season.

The full roster is here:

Any snubs from the team that you think should have made it?

JImmy Smith outplayed allot of the corners on the list, and as you stated some players got in on name recognition alone not play. But I am happy for our guys that did make it .

Daryl Smith. There are a lot of great MLBs, so I understand why he didn't make it. But I feel like he was our best defensive player for most of the season. He had a monster year, but maybe it's a good thing. Keeps that fire and doesn't give him an advantage when it comes to contract time!!!

There is no way Yanda should be there. He was abysmal this year...

what happened to Daryl smith ? Jimmy smith and Arthur Jones. surely there isn't a linebacker who played better then Daryl smith.

Congrats to these guys.  It's a shame Jimmy was left off, as I though he really deserved it.

#Ravens have four Pro Bowl selections: K Justin Tucker, G Marshal Yanda, LB Terrell Suggs and NT Haloti Ngata.

Agreed. Jimmy and Daryl should have made it, as well. Just give them another season and there won't even be a doubt.

Daryl Smith lost out for the same thing that's haunted him through his career - doesn't have the big name. London Fletcher syndrome.

Congratulations to everyone else!

Yanda deserves it. Since the bye week, he's been just about back to his dominant form. He's had a down year, but he's still a top five guard, hands down. Not many guards destroy Suh the way he did. Considering the guys next to him and coming into the season hurt, he played great and got better with every game. He's only had, I think, two games with a negative grade, one of those being a -0.1 from PFF. By the way, he din't get a lot of fan votes at all, so he got in on the coach and player votes. That's telling, to me. On an offensive line full of disappointment, inconsistency, and just plain badness, Yanda has stuck out inside.

Ngata, it's hard to tell. He's had a bad year for his standards, but still better than the majority. His reputation does seal his spot though. He's looked better lately.

Suggs got in on the first half of the season and the past game. He had a bad streak but most defenders in the NFL do. Even Ware, Matthews, etc... I've been hard on him for his leadership and lazy play, but he has played hurt for a month and he's starting to rebound.

Tucker, yeah. He deserves it all the freaking way!!!

Suggs, Ngata, and Yanda have all had down years for their standards, but they still had better years than most players at their respective positions.

Wow.... so many players got in based on reputation. I mean seriously, AP gets in despite his bad season? Might as well put Rice in there based on his reputation. Andre Johnson in and not Alshon Jeffery? So once again failure by the NFL.

Hopefully we beat the Bengals and Tucker, Ngata, Suggs and Yanda have a reason to skip this disaster.

Congrats to those who made it.

The three Smiths got snubbed

Jimmy and Dayrl(no Suprise) got snubbed.

They got the WR corp right.

Green
Gordon
Brown
Thomas.

I'll take those guys over Torrey

He won't be a pro bowler.... Not his fault, he's not a physical freak (ala Gordon, Thomas, and Green), or a versital WR like Brown.

Does that mean he's bad? Hell no. But he's not going to be a superstar for that reason.

I mean, Green and Gordon should both be locks the next few years barring injury lol

More like name recognition bowl. No offense to any of the ravens who made it, but tucker is the only one chosen who is truly deserving IMO suggs is on fence. I think it should be tucker, Arthur jones, j. Smith and d. Smith.

Guys. Its a popularity contest. Nothing more. Yes it is a real honor for the guys who made it, but not getting in just means you are not part of the in crowd, (or recognized by the in crowd) not that you didn't play well.

Jimmy didn't become a Pro Bowl type corner until about when the 2nd half of the season started, before that he played well but also struggled at times. In the 2nd half of the season he started to blossom. Would have liked to see him in the Pro Bowl but considering it was his first season as a starter it would have been a bit too early. Next year he will make it if he keeps it up I'm sure and become one of the elite corners in the game.

Ngata - People don't understand he plays a different role now. He's not being asked to move around and get after the QB the way he has in the past from the DE/DT position. Now he's being asked to occupy blockers in the 3-4 as a NT so therefore a lot of times he'll be somewhat invisible because he keeps getting double teamed, it's almost impossible for a NT to shine because he usually has like 3 guys right in front of him, maybe even throw in the fullback as well. Unfortunately our linebackers aren't that good against the run so we still struggle over the middle at times because of that. But Ngata is doing his job, I think he's doing it well. Don't compare it to what he used to do, it's not the same.

Suggs - He's the most complete LB in the game. Before that neck injury he was considered a DPOY candidate, maybe even THE DPOY. So it would be harsh to not put him in the Pro Bowl. Whether it was JUST injury related or whether part of it was him not playing that well over that stretch I don't really care. Overall he deserves the Pro Bowl nod if you look at his season. And you add in the fact that he had a bounce back game last week which would leave you to believe he's back on track and really was struggling because of that neck injury.

Tucker - What needs to be said, he's the best kicker in the league.

I'm not sure how guys like Greg Hardy and John Abraham (really?) made it over Wilkerson. Alshon Jeffrey is not even Chicago's #1, he's profiting off being next to Marshall who gets all the attention from defenses. Jeffrey won't make it as long as he's not proving he can be a legitimate #1 receiver and beat #1 corners week in week out. So there's no way he should have made the Pro Bowl. He's not an elite receiver. See Eric Decker that chump.

Man I hate Eric Decker.  That plug talks more garbage and gets away with more offensive PI than I've ever seen from a single WR.

Jacoby Jones is an ALTERNATE PR?! While I'm talking ST, I must take the time to congratulate rookie P Jonny Hekker! He's been phenomenal this season.
