Week 17 - Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals

so..here is the big question..what are we going to do with these past their prime cap eaters?

What can we do?

How much of their contracts will we still eat if we start making cuts?

And you have to be careful with restructuring because you don't want to extend out guys to the point where you'll be eating a lot of dead money if you cut them/they retire etc.

You can't blame Flacco because jimmy "Cary Williams" Smith sucks and got beat all day today

I gotta disagree with you on that one....Jimmy Smith is NO Cary Williams....  maybe a couple of times, but I wouldn't be  including that interception in the endzone...  come on, give the guy some credit, he hung pretty dang good hangin out there with AJ Green...  one of the best receivers in the league.

If we have the Perfect offseason I guarantee that we will look like Seattle or Denver. Flacco and the Offense will set records for being the best Offense instead of the worst and the Defense will stay dominant.

and some people make the same tired accusations in the other direction....  all out of frustration.  The man has won A LOT of games...  enough for 5 seasons into the playoffs, an AFC Championship win and a Super Bowl..

Assuming you're talking about the Flacco hate, including the "expensive contract", that's what I was meaning.

Na we don't have the talent for that.. It would take a couple perfect offseasons

And that somehow impacted the Ravens season?

Did u watch a different season than the rest of us? Sb champs to not even making playoffs? How is that an improvement?

Flacco sure earned that contract this season.

Oh you mean like the 50 other players not named Jimmy Smith and Justin Tucker? Yeah the O-Line sure earned their paychecks ,they were the best O-Line in NFL history, the run game was #1 in the league, and we have the best WR core in the NFL!

Wrong

pierce 5.6 ypc... 4 catches and scott had 1 for 8... all in the first half didnt see them again in the second... the game wasn't out of reach until the 4th came along and we tried to let Flacco win it for us.

I like Dickson... he can block pitta can not. Pitta will be back but even with him back I dont see Flacco getting better. The offense never looked good even with him the lineup. I dont think we make the playoffs again until we move on from Flacco. Other teams are getting better and bad money is falling off their books they had there dry spells and we may be hitting ours. It took a while after the first super bowl and may take awhile after the last. Watch out for the Browns they are a good qb away... they have a good defense and good wrs but but need a good qb. The steelers will always play hard and the Bengals are still young and have money.

lol

Why do you make such statements? Just like all those who said we'd never win a SB with Flacco.

We're not moving on from him. We just paid him a boat load of money and given everything this team went through this season, he did the best he could.

I mean, perhaps, just maybe, we could actually give him what every other successful QB in the league has gotten. Some actual honest to goodness top receivers, or at least a true #1. A real offensive line. Most importantly, could we stop with the kiddie pool offensive coordinators? Could we give him a real life OC just once?

If we manage to do at least some of those things and he has a bad season, then I could see your point. Until he's given the same opportunities that all the other so-called "great" QBs get, I really don't want to hear it because it isn't fair to pass judgement with nothing being equal.

I truly think we are underrating  how bad the Offense has been this year and how bad everything around Flacco has been. You see Matt Ryan? He had a little bit of his weapons taken away and look what happened. No QB in this world would have survived with this Offense.

You're assumeing correctly....  the contract is what it is.... we had to pay him to keep him...  Just like Dallas paid Romo...  you think that Tony is worth more (guaranteed money) than Flacco?????

Me too. If we don't re-sign Dickson, The team that picks him up  will make him a star. Pitta not being able to block is a major weakness.

Actually, no.

The game went of reach just after Flacco & the offense tied it up and the defense forgot to take the field, allowing Cincy to march right down & score, a tipped pass (6'6" defender btw) and a bad break later, it's a 2 score game.

Then our brilliant OC decides to run the ball on 1st down - no gain - but let's do it again on 2nd down. Leaving 3rd and long in desperation mode. Cincy brings the house, as they should (but our brilliant DC never seems to do at all, ever) and there you have it.

From there man it is desperation, wing & a prayer throw it up and hope someone makes a play. Which is all anyone can do at that point.

I wonder how many plays Flacco was either hit, rushed, or running for his life this season?

85% 90% ?
I dont care if you are Manning, Brady or Sanchez.  You will not perform well in those conditions.

BTW If you think for a SECOND Flacco is going ANY WHERE, you are an idiot.

Sorry but its true.

where are we going to get these number 1 wrs... because we have always faired so well in the first round for wrs and with what money are going to sign so many great players to support him... we have 2 tackles 3 tes up for for free agents... even if we sign one of each... we forget about the d free agents... are we just going to move on with with our late round draft picks on oline because the center we have is doing so well and our others that have gotten to play here and there just lite up the stats with great plays. Ok so lets eat some cap cut Ngata release Suggs the one player that teams plays well even if it doesnt show up in the stats... and let Jones walk the other player that played great all year.

How bad the OL was this year cannot ever be understated. lol. Same with how bad Ray Rice was in every aspect of the game.

How many drops did Dickson have???  Your TE has to be able to catch.  Blocking is one thing...  We have Furstenburg out there too, don't forget...  who can block and catch...

To be fair, Cam always had an o-line that could run block. If Cam's offense could not run or pass like this squad, he would have looked a lot worse. And I'm not sure Caldwell deserves all the blame for the line's performance.

True, you have a great point there. We have ALOT of work to do.

Shouldn't have put Rice back in there...  Shoulda kept running Pierce and Scott...

Wile I completely agree, I dont think it would have made enough of a difference.

+ 50

Why not be predictable? The whole world knows our 4 offensive plays and Harbs does nothing about it all season

suggs & ngata need to be fairly restructured. By fairly, I mean for the team. They are pretty high cap hits next year and did squat.

don't know what to do with Rice. Seems pretty obvious he is just done. Not sure how much of his remaining contract we'd eat if we cut him. Trade him? not sure anyone would want him.

Look at Marlon Brown. No injury to Jacoby and he would have never seen playing time. We'd have never known what we had. IMO that is the biggest problem with this organization. The failure to ever do plug n play with their higher draft picks. The only reason it happened with Elam was because of the massive failure of Huff. Even then, he's not playing the proper position.

We have to start taking chances with these guys we apparently think highly enough of to draft. It is what nearly everyone else does and we all go "wow! wish we'd drafted him!" well, we might have a guy like that but we won't see him for another 3 -4 years and then after a great season or two he's a FA and we wave bye-bye. Never getting any worth out of a player. It's maddening.
