Offseason Plan

665 posts in this topic

-New OC (Norv or Chudz)

-Veteran OL free agency signings at RT and C.

-Draft of a stud WR in the first round. Even if this requires trading up. Could be a TE as well.

-Good bye Juan

-Hello new and improved offense.

Honestly though, I will be very dissapointed in our FO this off season if they throw second rate parts around Flacco and expect him to last. Especially another season like this year in terms of hits. Protect Flacco at all costs and success will come.

Move Yanda to right tackle sign Monroe and go from there.

I doubt we move the pro bowl RG to RT, especially when he was the only constant on the interior and considering how much better he made Gino look at times. Yanda was the glue that kept the interior from being a total joke.

I would like to see us develop Marlon Brown to be able to line up outside and go deep. Even though he isn't a torrey smith speedster his size and the way he attacks the ball could really help in jump ball situations.

Restructure Ngata deal. Resign Suggs to a cap friendly deal that will see out his career in Baltimore. (Hopefully this will free up a nice bit of salary cap room allowing us to bring in a better quality of players)

Sign Monroe to establish our LT position and Pitta to cement Flacco's security blanket.

Bring in a new OC who will work closely with Joe and the offense, utilising our strengths and not becoming one dimensional.

Improve the O-Line though FA and draft. A new RT is a must since I don't see Oher signing. I don't want KO to move positions. He's a beast at LG.

Bring in a FS thought draft or FA and move Elam to SS.

Extend Jimmy and Torrey.

Fixing the offensive line has to be the absolute number 1 priority, bringing in a receiver and running back through FA or the draft will change nothing if we still get no push up front and Flacco is sacked 50 times a year.

I don't want to be back under .500 again listening to Harbaugh talk about how AQ and Gino are "improving with every game" because its crap. Fix the line.

number 1 priority is get an OC.

based on the OC scheme go fix the o-line and find receivers that fit that scheme.

for the love of god dont get players and then go get a scheme that doesent fit them.....

I'd actually like to see him become more of a possession receiver. Another full year in camp to gain more of a rapport with Joe and to develop his hands and RR. Also maybe some fades to the endzone. He's the closest we got to a Boldin clone.

A potential new WR coach could be Shawn Jefferson, he coached Tennessee last year and Detriot from 2005-2012. He was the main coach Titans fans were sad to see go when they fired Munchak and cleaned house.

Not sure where to put this but Sam Koch has a $2.8 million cap hit and might be released.  The Ravens would save $1.6 million against the cap if he was let go.

I think he's an average to slightly above average punter.  However his ability to spot the ball on FG attempts is part of the reason Tucker had the year he did.  I would like to see Koch restructure and stay.

He could be a cut that we cut, and re-sign to a cheaper deal at some point.

spark notes for this state of the Ravens

we need more size on the inside

an athletic play making FS

a TE/WR who can catch a 3rd and 7 and run after that.

It sounds like Suggs is outta here.

Harbaugh said Marlon work on 9 routes

I've heard a lot of talk about the tight end position.

I think it's pretty much expected that we'll try to resign Dennis Pitta and we'll let Ed Dickson walk, and I'm happy with this.

Dickson's blocking has been horrific for us, so I'm pretty excited to see that Ben Hartsock of the Panthers is becoming a free agent this year. Hartsock is one of the best (if not the best) blocking tight ends in the league. He probably wouldn't cost too much, and looks like the kind of free agent signing Ozzie loves to make. We could either draft a young play making tight end, or promote Furstenburg to the main roster if we feel he's developed enough, and roll with Pitta/Hartsock as our receiver/blocker.

Bajema was a solid blocker, but Hartsock is on a different level. Obviously we have other more pressing concerns, but signing a guy like Hartsock would immediately upgrade our lackluster run game and could be just as important (and cheaper) than bringing in a new lineman.

So Ozzie said we are getting bigger at the o-line but we are keeping a ZBS scheme oline coach in Castillo.  I don't get it.

We need to be stronger up front, no matter what scheme we run.

Harbs did hint that he wants Castillo to tailor the scheme to the players a bit more.

It seems this year we have a plan, and that's all I can ask for. Last year had a lot of moving parts, which probably contributed to not making the playoffs. Not making it gives us those few extra weeks to work things out and it sounds like they're making the most of it.

well since castillo became the official o-line coach i hope  we get a good back QB that is similiar to flacco in terms of skills or we prepare tyrod better incase he needs to step in.

QBs rarely play all 16 games with castillo as the o-line coach.

I definitely think that has more to do with McNabb being an injury prone QB that likes to run. Could be wrong though

“Art Brown did a really good job in our nickel packages. Art is a guy who’s learning a lot of football. He bounced [between defensive positions] a little bit in college. And football, understanding the complexity of defensive schemes in this league – at this level – is going to take him to a starting role. He’s going to compete for a starting job. He’ll be competing for that WILL linebacker starting job. I expect him to win the job, but he’s got to go win the job.”

From the Article on the front page from Harbaugh's mouth. Right now Jameel McClain is the WILL linebacker. Think this shows that they are definitely not taking on that cap hit from McClain.

Probably also lends nicely to Daryl Smith coming back.  He could have just as easily said that Brown would be competing for the MIKE, but he made it sound like that spot is already covered.

I don't think this year was so much of a problem. We identified some clear problems with our team which need to be addressed. However, they are not overwhelming or unattainable.

1. Running Game - We can all agree that a lack of a running game hurt our offense. No one is even questioning either Rice or Pierce. I question that offensive scheme personally. With arguably the best FB in the league, we hardly utilized Leach this year. Why have one of the highest paid at the position if we don't use him. I would like to see more off tackle runs from a two back set, cycling in Juice for Vonta in passing situations.

2. Adding onto fixing the running game, the offensive line needs to be reworked. I would say that two positions are safe, if the Ravens resign Monroe. The interior of the line needs to get bigger and better. I am a large believer of Kelechi Osemele, a total mauler in the running game. IT will be CRUCIAL for his return at full strength after his scary injury. Gino has disappointed at Center, but there is a blue-chip center available in the draft. Travis Swanson, 4 year starter, 6'4, 310 lbs, looks like the best choice for the Ravens second round draft pick. Yanda is fine, love me some Yanda. RT is our biggest ? with Oher hopefully leaving. I would like to see a run blocking tackle found in free agency here, I saw Eric Winston's name pop up and if he comes affordable, would love to see him.

3. Play makers- The Ravens need play makers. A healthy Rice, Anquan, Pitta, Smith. These guys were play makers. Now we have a battered backfield, a lack of WR depth and all our TE's are UFA's. In my opinion, we need to draft a big WR in the first round, as we haven't in ages. I would love to see one of three guys, first Mike Evans, second Jordan Matthews and third Marquise Lee. However, we should also draft a smaller WR prospect later as well, who has shown potential with the ball in their hands in open space. I'm thinking Brandon Cooks. For our TE's, we need to resign Pitta, bring up Furstenburg, who showed potential, and draft a run blocking TE like C.J Fiedorowicz in the third round.

I feel the rest of our issues are less glaring and can be fixed in house, like a need for a FS. Omar Brown has shown potential in limited action, but I trust Newsome and Co. to find a superb athlete in the later rounds that can be worked into a starting postion.

I am also a believer in our draft class, with Elam out of the gate. Brown needed time to get familiarized with the system and will hopefully step into a starting role. Williams showed potential as a DT and works with us cycling our defensive line. We need Juice to step into a more efficient role (Offensive Coordinator). However, long term, I feel John Simon will become a JJ like player for us. Not JJ Watt but Jarret Johnson. He is a hard worker and a perfect fit for our system. Give him time and he will become a standout player.

That's my ideal offseason plan. Go Ravens!

If I had to guess, it seems like the only position we'll prioritize on defense is FS.  It sounds like DL and LB could use some depth pieces via late round pick or cheap FA signing, but nothing too extreme here.  CB could step into a need as well, but it sounds like they really want Corey Graham back.

This should and will be an offensive minded offseason.  Build up the OL with both quality starters and quality depth, and add some pass catchers around Flacco.  I'd expect the pass catchers to be added through the draft primarily, with the OL being a combination of the draft and free agency.

The Offseason plan needs to start renewing Our roots.

What happened to aSmash Mouth Football? Thats how you beat Manning. Keep the ball for 10 minute drives wearing out the defense. Harbaugh better get this team back in place before its too late. Watch the Chargers this weekend and watch what thecSqueelers do next year. WAKE UP! And get your coaching heads outvof your butts - stop shining your ring

The ravens need to start by getting there star quarterback out of the clouds either quarterback or actress. Second the problem is we gave a coach who allows the control of team to be with everyone else. No marbles. Third we have what we call are bread and butter to bae power blocking. The gap is opened by vonte leach who is a great fulback an does open holes when we use him ray would of had a whopping 5 to 6 yards per carry. The oher era should be over he is lazy. McClain Is no good either he is lazy linebacker who will never be a ray Lewis and he is still living on rays coat tails. As far as a pass rush you only had two Elvis and Terrell everyone else sub par except Arthur Jones and canty. We need to grasp a better line and Monroe is not the answer. Also I think we work better as offense in hurryup. The Caldwell era should be over he is no offensive swammy. And as far defensive coordinator he has as little marbles as harbaugh and ugh a prevent defense nightmare. The problem is are defense and offense is in disarray and are coaching staff need to be a stock pile of toughness. So ozzie get on your magic hat and find us some real play makers around the stars like pitta, torrie, terrel suggs,Jacoby, dummervil,Marlon byrd, and ray rice, you guys forget the offensive line let him down as well as the offensive line coach. Who thought he had to fix something that was not broke. Well drama queen flaco we paid a lot to loose a lot get your head back out of your butt and be a top rate quarterback again. We can capture are glory again just need men who are hungry not contract hogs. As far as offensive line have a lot of holes first gradkowski f for effort terrible. Monroe f for achievement and effort. At least Micheal tryed. Yanda was hurt all year gets a mulligan can't take on everyone. Need big front line and strong duo with chemistry. It's time for better secondary the experiment is over only Darryl smith a plus. Elam a joke at safety and so was idegbo. Need a hard nose defensive coordinator like one who takes chances and is nor scared. It's time to put the puzzle back together again because the pieces we have don't scratch the surface.

Do you guys feel we will target a pass rushing OLB in FA/draft or stay put? I know Ozzie didn't say anything about it in the press conference but he isn't going to break down his whole plan. I would like another young gun to give competition to McPhee/Simon/Hamilton as a situational pass rusher. I am real high on Simon he is a machine I think he will win the competition next year.

Depends if Suggs is here or not.  If he stays, I doubt they even think about touching OLB.  If he's gone, I think they could look into a mid round guy, but I doubt they take one high unless Barr or Mack are available.  I think they are very content with Upshaw, McPhee, Simon, and Hamilton if Suggs goes, in my honest opinion.

True I forgot about Upshaw he is just a pure run stopper.  I think it depends on how we feel Simon will develop, Harbs seemed to love him and he is a very good athlete for being labeled as a "hustle" player.

I think they have enough guys to make up a quality rotation until we fill some more essential holes.  If Suggs goes and we don't do anything about it this offseason, I'd assume that it would probably be a high priority next season unless someone out of that group steps up and becomes an every down guy.  If we could just merge a few of them into one player, we'd be golden lol.
