Offseason Plan

665 posts in this topic

I think I have seen enough to realize the Ravens are not going to repeat this year. They can still make the playoffs but we all know our offense is way too anemic to progress any further.

So what moves need to be made to get this team back to Superbowl contention? We still have many pieces on Defense and cornerstone players on offense. We just need to fill out the roster with more quality Ravens.

With that in mind, I think losing/winning would benefit us. Losing puts us in prime position to nab an elite WR and winning might put us in the playoffs for the sixth straight year. Is a playoff spot worth losing out on Lee or Evans and the sorrow of probably losing early in the playoffs?

What is the best route? and do we finally install a new offense next year?

I think we need a second GOOD quarterback.

We seriously need either need Tony Romo (or someone similar)

we can use him for the first half and joe for the second because tony isn't too good towards the end of the game but Joe is.... ^_^

but i think we will probably be rebuilding our offense more then the defense

In all seriousness its a 2 year rebuilding plan which will if done correctly pay dividends in 2016.

we havent drafted well enough in the past 4 years to offset the overpaid past their prime players. We have no cap space and we dont have an O line worth talking about and we still..yes..we still after all these years dont have a superstar WR or TE.

As for our d..watch art jones leave us for the patriots next year

this team is so bad its not even funny. this team is horrible. people are going to start saying flacco's knee is why they lost. nope they were outplayed in every aspect. they got smoked in there own stadium. I already called earlier this season that the ravens wont make the playoffs this year. you actually think there gonna beat cincy in cincy yeah right, it will never happen. cincy is a very complete team. this doubt the ravens stuff is old and stupid. as far as bmore comments I really don't think we need an elite anybody, I mean yes it would be nice but our problems are coaching issues. I think we have to fire some coaches and like you said install a new offense next year. I have never been a harbaugh fan never, in fact I think he is the worst coach in the history of this franchise. just my opinion. everybody seems to look at the record and 5 straight years in playoffs I don't care about any of that stuff. we have always had a horrible offense. harbaugh likes to hire his buddies. Caldwell is to predictable so is pees. I say start with those 2, fire them both. had we had some type of running earlier this year greenbay, buffalo we wouldn't be in this spot.

1) O-line help

- Game lives and dies here

2) Offense and Defense Coordinators

- Neither are really up to the task, but I'll even give Caldwell another shot. Dean Pees needs to be dealt with yesterday

3) A Play-Making WR

- I don't care if we trade the entire draft, GET FLACCO A REAL WEAPON. All these "Elite" QB's people love talking about has a least one. Brady is the lone exception and that's because he has a god-like O-line and perfect scheme.

4) O-line Help

5) O-line help

You get the picture

And who can forget a blocking TE. When was the last time we've had one of those? who could catch too?

Build up the offense.  A front 7 player that's strong against the run would be helpful as well, but the offense is anemic and that's where the focus should be.

We really need help on offense. At least 1 OL and hopefully a WR and TE early in the draft.

On defense we mostly need depth and maybe some DL help depending on how FA goes.

It seems though it may take longer than a year to fix. How do you fill C, RT, TE, and WR with adding depth to the defense in one off season. And this is assuming KO can get back into form.

Hope we miss the playoffs now. I wanted us to win the division but now that we're out of it, i dont want to if it means going to Denver again with this group. We would probably turn in a performance like today.

We need a stud, 1st round WR. I know they are hard to find, but so many teams have them. And we have NEVER had one. I love Torrey, He's a number 1 in my eyes, but he's not on the level of a AJ Green. That's the type of dude we need opposite of Torrey. Flacco deserves weapons.

We need to go after OL and a new OC

We need an innovative OC.  I would prefer someone who has been in college and is willing to get creative

My top two guys are Chad Morris at Clemson and Phillip Montgomery at Baylor.  Both are long time HS coaches who moved to college and had immediate success.

no need to wrack your brains over this stuff cause we're just going to get the typical coach speak about who they are going after in the draft.  That speak sounds like this..."We're gonna get better!"  SMH!!

First we need to look at re signing out players. I will start with the first tier of players Monroe, Pitta and Arthur Jones. All 3 are good above average players. I will say Pitta is the most important, then Monroe. I hate to say it but it looks like Arthur jones is gone. If we can re sign all 3 then that will be great. But I don't think we will be able to because we will need to remember Torrey and Jimmy Smith are coming up soon. Jimmy will make a lot if he keeps it up and Torrey will get a nice contract.

Then we get into the 2nd tier of FA in Ihedigbo, Daryl SMith and Jacoby Jones. All 3 have played better then I expected when we signed them. All are going to be 30+ as well so they are in their own group. This is tough because all 3 will probably get better contracts then we can offer. Im torn on how to rank the importance of these guys. Daryl Smith is the best out of the 3 but we also have the best depth at ILB so we could let him walk and be fine with Brown/McClain/Bynes. I love Ihedigbo but we have absolutely no depth at Safety if he left, and we have little depth at WR too. Lets say we can somehow squeeze in just Daryl Smith and I hate to think about that I love Jacoby.

I say we just let Oher walk I do have faith in Wagner from what I have seen in pre season

Now with our coaching staff I know people want Caldwell gone. I am un sure if we should let him go. He looked well in the super bowl run but predictable this year. I think we will give him another shot if I was the GM I probably would just tell him to be more aggressive.

With Pees he has coached very well also. I know he has been bland but not Mattison bad. I like him but personally I would like to see us make a move into the Jim Johnson 43. I like to study famous gameplans and I feel with the way the current league is going this is the best defense suited for NFL offenses. I say this because I feel with the current NFL an aggressive 43 is the best system available because everyone is attacking the gaps as opposed to taking up space. Plus some of our young pieces are built for that defense. Matt Elam can play that in box safety blitz role that Brian Dawkins played very well. Arthur Brown is built for a 43 too and he has shown blitzing skills and coverage skills. Jameel McClain can play the thumper blitzer up the middle and Daryl Smith can play SLB where he is a machine at. Brown main weakness is taking on blocks and with 4 guys infront of him. We will just need a true deep ball safety and eventually get some DT who can penetrate.

Now for the draft I just want us to do what Ozzie always does and go BPA. I know everyone wants to go for need but BPA has worked so well for us in the past. I am hoping we can get Haha Clinton Dix round 1 and the ASJ round 2. That is my dream first two picks.

Do not trade out of the first round to have another second round pick that will conceive is a first round talent that will ultimately be a bust

1. Find a real offensive coordinator.

2. Rebuild the offensive line. (Add a veteran center, draft a Tackle early)

3. Bring in a legitimate possession WR

4. Teach Joe Flacco how to adjust pass protections

5. Upgrade the TE position.

6. Part ways with Juan Castillo

7. Find a way to keep Jacoby Jones.

8. Restructure our overpaid veterans.

offense in general...o-line...WRs....TEs, and possibly a new OC, I never thought of Jim Caldwell as anything besides a stop gap coordinator he does not have the experience or creativity to be a great OC.

Id actualy trade torrey smith for the possibility of 2 1st round draft picks. One late and with the way things are going now, onea t around the 15 mark.

It's pretty obvious we have to ramp up our offense, starting with major O line rebuild. After this game I am convinced that Shipley and Gradkowski are not good enough. Oher had less than average season, and I think I'm generous with that assessment, just can't see us offering him any tackle-type money to stay. For half a season Monroe has shown that it might work out with him but I'm not sure whether he's worth a contract with figures that float around at the moment.

Considering we also need to replace depth on defense after likely departures due to our salary cap bounds, I think we are looking at fully solidifying the roster in no less than 2 years, if we are lucky to draft talent that will turn out to be NFL ready in a first season. There is a lot of expensive spots on the team we need to get better at.

You can bring in who you like but until Flacco improves his:

Accuracy/touch

Pocket awareness

Reading defenses

Decision Making

We will always be stuck in the mud on offense, always.

He is a robot who throws the ball up for grabs for the most part.

So bring in who you like, same results.

No one is giving 2 first round picks for Torrey Smith.

Not even if the GM is blasted drunk and we have pictures of him with strippers.
