Can Somebody Explain Playoff Breakdown

59 posts in this topic

According to the ESPN playoff machine, if both SD and MIA win, we do not make the playoffs regardless of what we do against Cincy.

If one of them loses and the other wins, we do make the playoffs.

How is this possible?

How can Miami have the tie breaker over us if we beat them head to head?

it's conf record in a three or more teams tie, so we need one of them two to lose... if we get the win

3 way tie goes to conference record. Miami has the best conference record,, so they advance.

I thought Miami has the same conference record as us? Bills swept them, they split with the Pats, and They beat the Jets. But they still have 1 more game in there division like us. Do mean the whole AFC conference?

Yes. In the AFC, not the division.

Well San Diego plays The Chiefs so that's our best hope!

A Chiefs team that will be benching starters. They have nothing to play for.

Yeah Rex is our best hope, especially after how Miami played today!

Ahh, AFC conference record is what it comes down to. Meh, the way we played today, we don't deserve a playoff berth, plain and simple.

Chiefs might play for momentum.

And never underestimate SD's ability to screw up.

I am a firm believer that Rivers is very capable of losing a big game!  : )

Is there any chance, any chance at all of a home game?

Zero chance. It's the 6 seed or bust at this point.

if either the chargers or the miamia lose and we win next week, we're in. if all three lose we're in.

I think the Steelers might have a chance to get in if Baltimore, Miami, and SD all lose...

My better judgement says the Jets & SD wins, but, then again, my better judgement said our Pats game was going to be close. Please let me be wrong again!

I think that is true, if the Squeelers win and we, Miami and SD all lose, Pittsburgh is in

Who cares? Ravens dont deserve to be in the playoffs. Pulling for SD, they do. Won at Denver on short week and won at KC. To make playoffs had to run the table. Ravens choked, Miami choked.

Depends on when game is played. SD might be eliminated by the time they take the feild. Reid and Harbaugh are freinds also. Doubt KC wants to go into playoffs after two straight losses either. But doubt Ravens beat Bengals anyhow. Miami sits in the best position.

I don't trust Miami honestly.

We might see the Steelers in the playoffs at this rate.

If Ravens and Dolphins both lose, SD will thump on incentive.

Miami screwed themselves with  today with their loss..

No they didnt. They just need to beat Jets at home and have either Ravens lose or SD win. Ravens ate thier underpants more.

I saw this a bit ago...easiest explanations so far:

Even if they win, the Ravens will need Miami and/or San Diego to lose. If the Ravens, Miami and San Diego all win, the three-way tiebreaker is the best conference record, which the Dolphins would hold and go to the playoffs as the #6 seed. If the Ravens win and Miami and/or San Diego lose, the Ravens would have the two-team tiebreaker and would go to the playoffs as the #6 seed and play every playoff game on the road.

I don't care if we "deserve" it or not. I'm going to root like hell for this team to make the playoffs, because that's what real fans do.
