Why I Don't Play Madden Online

18 posts in this topic

Even though the idea of playing against real competition is enticing, I actually prefer NOT to play Madden online.

Now, before you start thinking it's 'cause "I suck" or something like that, keep in mind, my issues have nothing to do with my ability (or lack thereof), but moreso with bad experiences I've had online.

1) Little-*** kids. No offense to any of the younger members here, but most players over 18 KNOW when they're playing against a snot-nosed kid who thinks Madden is a 100% accurate representation of football and a substitute for real-life football knowledge/ability.

They're the ones who always go for it on 4th down, and always run the exact same play over, and over, and over again, with no regard for any football logic whatsoever. They're the ones who call Engage Eight Blitzes in every situation, and will roll the entire hashmark out of the pocket left and right or drop back 20 yards when they pass.

They will do this to no end, until you start whupping that ***, and then will disconnect from the game because you made them cry. But when they beat you, they will flood your inbox with trash talk and dare you to come back for another so-called beating because they are the "greatest Madden player alive" and "should be a head coach in the NFL." <_<

2) People with bad connections. I'm sorry, but it's not my fault that your internet lags. But, I can't play with you if you won't finish a game, whether or not it's your fault. As for the lame people who blame losses on bad connections (when, really, they flaked out and didn't want to finish out the loss), well, shame on you! I spit on your computer grave...

3) People who take the game too seriously. C'mon now, it's a freaking video game, not God's gift. And if you think that your Madden ability correlates with your social skills and sex appeal, you're horribly, horribly, horribly mistaken and I hope you don't find out until AFTER I steal your crush-who-you-SAY-is-your-girlfriend-but-really-isn't-'cause-she-doesn't-know-you-exist. ;)

4) Difficulty in getting a game started. OK, so, you go into a lobby, and you say you're ready to play. But, other people say the same thing but never invite you to a game. Or, you go to invite the person, but they reject your invite and then post a message in the lobby saying they're ready to play. At this rate, I could've finished an offline game, gotten something to eat, shaved, taken a shower, looked up some "interesting visual aides" on the computer (yes...um, playbooks...right...), and come back, before I even get a game started.

5) Well, there IS no fifth reason, I just felt like it'd be odd to stop my list at 4.

So there you have it. And yet, I keep going back online occasionally...only to come back to reasons 1 through 4--er, 5 all over again. In that exact order. Sort of.

You just summed up the way I feel about it 100%. I tried to play. And I got fed up. There were so many young kids talking trash, playing the same play every single down.

That #2 - bad connection always happens when I was winning - go figure. It's like the young kids I played couldn't handle losing. It just wasn't fun. I haven't played any game online since Madden 2003. I prefer playing the computer, because it's much more realistic, and EA is progressing the game in that area.

All this is true, but nothing replaces a good quality opponent who knows how to play the game. Me and a friend play all the time, and its great because we know each others tendencies, and it forces you to switch up your game, from play to play, depending on the team.

I like offline play as well, but more for NCAA 09 and not Madden.... I love my online madden, but I don't play strangers that often, so that may be it
noting touches madden on ps2 madden on ps3 sucks ..... online gameplay wackk!!!
I disagree. Looking back on it, and going back to playing old Madden on PS2, it was too easy for me after playing Madden 09 on PS3.

I'm not saying it to brag, though. But Madden 09 on the next-gen systems really does make you a better Madden gamer, since it teaches you to adapt from game-to-game, and you gain better vision as a virtual QB/RB.

I'm a much better virtual QB now on All-Madden/All-Pro settings than I used to be, mainly because I've been forced to adapt to a defensive secondary AI that is impossibly psychic. It's because of how much harder it is to pass, that I've forced myself to get better at it.

And I've learned patience with the running game that I've never had before. Now, I'm satisfied with 4, 5, and 6-yard runs, and don't panic just because I don't reel off a 10-yard run every time.

yeah exactly...but for me the thing is that i own in the mini-games thing, on the quarterback challange. i set it to all-madden vs the steelers' D and i score 10,000 points avg. but when i go on the playing field, it's pick, after pick, after pick...it's annoying lol

I only played one game online and the guy I played kept sending Santana Moss on fly patterns. It worked in the first quarter until I started double teaming him. At least he was kind enough to congratulate me afterwards.

LOL that reminds me of the other day, Some kid was using the skins and was talking a bunch of trash while the game was loading and stuff then we started and I got ball first. Usually I do a little trick of mine and put Ray Rice in at fullback and run a play like FB dive or something. Well I did this and went all the way. He said it was all luck, I have a headset but usually dont use it so i just didnt say anything. He gets the ball, tries to force it to Santana and Ed Reed takes it to the house for 6... this happened about 3 more times.I think I barely played offense, I gave this kid my first shut out lol.
37-0 Me :P

I use FB Dive all the time online when I'm playing as the Ravens and using their default playbook, and no one ever expects it, even in short-yardage situation.

It could be from a goalline formation or a split-back formation or a Strong-I or Weak-I formation, with 3rd-and-1 or 4th-and-1 -- it doesn't matter. No one ever defends it properly/effectively for some reason.

And the best part is, I almost always get 6-10 yards out of it.

I know, I tried to put Yamon or someone with speed in there so I could be gone but it wouldnt let me lol.

Ray Rice was the next best thing I guess.

In other news...
So i was playing some guy using the steelers online and he quit, so I kept playing. The computer hated me... 4 fumbles?!?!?! WHY ME? Oh, and heap catches a curl route IN FRONT of a defender and it somehow gets intercepted?
It was still a 6-13 game too...

That INT you're talking about is one of my gripes about the game's AI.

I love the realism and difficulty and all, but it's impossible for a defensive secondary to telegraph almost EVERY pass and be able to turn their body and make the pick when their head isn't even looking in the direction, or they're a few yards separated but manage to close in on the pass JUST IN TIME.

It made me mad because heap had like 3 yards on him and plenty enough time to catch the curl for the first. Somehow he like took it out of heaps hands.

I've had Madden 09 for quite a while but just recently decided that I would ignore my own selfimposed rule and try the online play out. I think as of now I'm sitting at 5-8 (1-0) with the Ravens, but I've had my share of kids and knowledgeable football people that I've played. Some games have been terrific and it was a football game, then last night I played a guy who went for it on 4th no matter what. I was shocked when it was 4th and 7 from his own 16 and he went for it. Luckily I held him and was given great field position obviously.

My point, there's good and bad out there. I wish there was some way to know what type of person you were playing before the game began, it would make it so much more fun. I love playing against real opponents, it's more fun than beating the CPU constantly. However I don't much care for it with some of the "tools" that are out there and have no real idea of how the game of football is supposed to be played.

If any of you guys want to give a game a shot sometime, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my 360 GT.

A few things that can get you passed this..
1. Learn to negate there plays. It annoys the crap out of me too, but as my lvl went up online the less often I played people who rush to the line and use the same exact plays.

2. Go into the Lobbys and look at there Ping lvl's, your always going to find people that cant finish out there losses and it sucks, Give them a bad review and after so long you wing out all the people who quit.

3. Have no comment. I do zone in while playing but I have fun, win or lose. and love to talk a big game, I have the game on both PS3 and 360, PS3 attracts ALOT more smack talking, and alot more video Gangsta's. 360 has alot more people you can have fun with, but I also have won alot more on 360. 21-8, to 32-26 on PS3, But for some reason my disc like to "disc is dirty, clean it" and it gives me a loss every now and again even if Im wining big.

4. After you play for a while, you get some people you enjoyed playing with and add them as a friend, when you see them on Invite them to a game.

5. well couldent leave mine at 4 niether.
Hope some of this helps, as I would get mad but i would stick it out,I now enjoy it alot more. What system do you have, Im always up for a good game :)
